Critical modifier applies to ripostes too. LKSS is the best straight sword for parrying. If you can hardswap than BKGS is obviously better, but otherwise LKSS is the best.

Unless you want to only spam R1, LKSS is the best option. It has negligibly worse damage and range than the Dark sword, but it has better criticals and better moveset. Dark sword is obviously superior for R1 spamming, but LKSS is better otherwise.

SSS only niche is it's ability to cast sacred oath at minimum FP requirements. Otherwise it is shit. There are other straight swords with negligibly better range and damage(even the Dark sword has only 39 more damage compared to LKSS), while having a better moveset. LKSS is just more universally useful compared to other straight swords. And if you use the Leo Ring LKSS becomes even better.

If you want something that churns out great damage effortlessly SSS and Dark Sword exist for both lack of effort and DPS.
If you want something to slap that Ciaran ring on you could opt into some prettier options altogether

If you want a good moveset sword the LKSS is there, but everything else it offers can be similarly replicated or passed up by something else entirely.

Dark Souls 3 is the biggest disappointment of 2016 thus far.
Second only to Street Fighter 5's launch (although SF5 is still really good) and Battleborn.
I've personally moved onto DOOM and Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir.
Got one character to NG+3 and can't be bothered to play anymore. I get bored after playing 20-30 minutes and switch to another game.
