First of all, it is great that Melee online is coming BUT we do not yet know how that will go. It could be a shot of adrenaline to the scene but at the same time I worry about internet lag and such possibly completely killing any potential it has to actually make things happen. Online tournaments would still be meaningless depending on all the entrances' internet connection.
Second, Smashbox has digital input buttons and wouldn't be acceptable to actual pro players so its meaningless.

The smashbox is already being tested by the pros, and all TOs that matter have given their opinion on it that since it has no macros it's perfectly legal. You're sacrificing a bit of analog control and controller familiarity for ease of use for those common with hitbox.
Regarding Netplay, you missed the part that it's going to be using GGPO for its netcode and new gecko codes that will make the game update its hardware faster than the console version to eliminate all online lag.
The only thing that could go wrong is nintendo shutting it down. Here's hoping for the best.

Also there's a huge problem with Ganon's overall metagame. His best skills are very hard to master (shit like his movement, impossible chaingrab, etc). You have some Ganon's with amazing movement, then you have some that can actually CG, some that even bother to implement shield drops (Kage never uses them), and then you have others that actually know MUs efficiently. You don't have one that has everything in one package.
I'm looking forward to Smashbox Ganon a fuck-ton. Pivot jab is literally impossible to do normally, but it's going to be super easy with the Smashbox. Also his ledgedash will become super easy to link into literally anything.

There is a pretty definite high tier for Smash 4 (Mario, ZSS, Sheik, Sonic, etc...) but below that, it gets incredibly nebulous except for the very worst characters.
Smash 4 is very matchup dependent, and at a best-of-3 tourney, upsets can easily happen since nobody is going to have a comprehensive knowledge of every single MU, and no character oppresses every single other character.

Hbox is a solo-mains Jigglypuff and he pretty much carries the character more than anything. Not too many people play Jiggly because you have to play differently compared to using any other top tier. I mean the next highest Jiggly is probably Prince Abu and even then he's average at best.
