As someone who played League of Legends religiously for 3 years up to diamond 2 and got relatively highly ranked on CS, Overwatch competitive isn't any more "casual" than most big esport games.

Objective time only goes up while contesting or capping or while moving or contesting the payload. It is the biggest example of individual skill especially a high average which basically spells out you are a great defensive player.
A 20 second average means out of 10 games 9 of them were spent watching the opponents cap a point/push a payload to its destination.

I never understood insta-locking or hard-locking in this game.
The game ACTIVELY ENCOURAGES switching up team composition on the fly, and a lot of characters have hard counters. Why would you not switch it up at least once or twice?
And I could understand insta-locking someone like Reaper or Tracer or McCree, who are more versatile than not, but fucking Hanso? Literally the single most situational character in the entire fucking game next to, like, Symmetra? Even fucking MEI is more useful in any given situation than Hanso is.

the ranked system is fucked beyond belief and here's why:
1 - calibration was broken, and there hasn't been enough time for it to settle - meaning there are still people >10 ranks away from where they should be
2 - blizzard have designed the amount of points you get per win (or lose per loss) assuming a 1-100 bell curve. However, because they don't know how to build a competitive game they've actually ended up with a 35-70 bell curve (see: pic from masteroverwatch)
So a single win or loss can move you roughly 0.5 levels (if not more) - that's multiple percentiles. Win one game and the genius system thinks you're magically better than <2% of the playerbase around you.
This all means that people can move ridiculous distances really fast. Add in a completely broken leaver system and low penalties for game-ruining (unlike, say, dota) and you have a recipe for disaster.
To put this in context: I fell from 50 to 39 in just over a day. That's the 51st percentile to the fucking SEVENTH. A comparable movement in Dota 2 would be to fall from 3500 mmr to <1500. In a day. That's fucking idiotic.
