i fail to see the problem OP. You can also sprint through that early part of Mensis no problem, or play it safe and hide behind pillars while you work your way up to the loft.

I saw an interesting video that tied this mechanic to how in Lovecraft stories the narrator usually goes insane and kills himself / dies from all the crazy shit he's seen.

If you think of it like that it I can kinda put up with it.

I have mixed feelings about instant permadeath with high accuracy. It was only tolerable because you got so many party members and could chain disable most enemies, including bosses.
>>
>>345456250
>If you think of it like that it I can kinda put up with it.

you're not smart for "thinking about it like that", it's clear that frenzy measures your characters exposure to the incomprehensible horrors throughout the game, with Insight representing the knowledge that the player character willingly takes in, whereas frenzy is info that the player is forced to take in. Seeing something like a Winter Lanter, who resembles the Doll to an uncanny degree, is simply too much and causes your mind to burst.
>>
Why did manual combat have to be so fucking bad in Transistor? VATS worked for New Vegas because you could do just fine without it, in fact half the time you were better off aiming manually.
>>
>>345454919
Getting frenzied was such a boring thing.

Instead of just getting damaged it should've mirrored the controls or something, that would have been funny in PvP.

This
Like >>345456250 said, it was supposed to represent how lovecraftian protagonists go insane and eventually die, but just taking out a large chunk of your health just seemed really obnoxious and artifical
>>
>>345458005
Dungeon finder was the final nail in the coffin. The lore-breaking vertical progression was what seriously crippled it.
>>
>>345458090
It's not old assist gold, it's comeback gold. Basically the tl;dr of the picture is "Oh, you were winning for 30 minutes? Okay, one lost fight undoes it all. Better pick at least 3 carries so you don't lose to Peru welfare checks."
>>
Every real-time game with a healing system that requires pausing the game to use healing items. It completely fucks with the flow of the game. Happens a lot even when there's an option to hotkey it, because there's too much diversity in healing option. Dragon Dogma is an example. Elder Scrolls too.
>>
what? Frenzy was an awesome mechanic
>>
>>345457863
The real offender is the old single river rune system. How anyone could unironically defend that despite the patently superior two rune system of HoN that icefrog ended up copying is a mystery for the ages.
>>
>>345457835
They tried something different the game is still great though if anything the game offers more depth to the combat system then bastion despite me preferring bastions combat.

Bloodborne is probably my favourite game, but even I can see why the mechanic was handled properly.

They could've done things differently opposed to having a disgusting amount of health suddenly ripped away from the player. You guys sound like apologists
>>
>>345458239
Oh. I get you now. Yeah, I'm really not a fan of that either. Tbh I actually enjoyed the TI4 finals when teams were crushing others in 10 minutes flat and the strategy heavily revolved around having solid lanes instead of merely being about picking a lineup with great teamfighting.

Examples of levels that incorporate all the worst mechanics ? Ice levels with the slip and sliding, Sewer / water levels with the drowning time limit and poison time limit. If not done well, levels with limited visibility are shit. Jungle levels seem to have an absurd amount of leaps of faith and invisible traps.

I think my biggest pet peeve is forced racing segments in otherwise non racing games, the mechanics are always half-assed.
>>
>>345455993
If you time your visceral right, even if your frenzy meter hits max, you can avoid damage if you're mid visceral attack.
>>
>>345455040
It was introduced poorly and then all of a sudden you were supposed to cope with it.
It removes 70% of your health which usually leaves you to get one shot by whatever is close.
Before you know what it does it's pretty much a guarantee death. If only they could've introduced it better.

Damn son you're right that might be the first time in a Souls game that something unexpected killed you
>>
>>345458727
Exactly, that's why I stopped playing Dota. The laning phase stopped mattering, hell even the midgame kind of got washed out as just a segue to late game. Even if you interpret the "false advantage" as "neutral", what that means is the first 30 minutes of the game no longer mean jack shit unless you're absolutely perfect at everything. Instead, it all comes down to if your Enigma lands a black hole on the Chaos Knight 40 minutes in or not. I miss old Navi's heavy early game strats and Alliance's rat shit, because at least those were viable strategies. Now every game is just turtling in your base for 40 minutes, or turtling outside the enemy base so that their 3 hard carries don't go nuclear from one support pickoff.

Not to mention, pubs with this shit are 100% miserable. There's zero fun in going 5-0-10 as a support in 15 minutes, then the enemy Perushit PA with zero items dives into your team 1v5, crits you 3 times in a row, and get 4k gold for killing you even if she dies. Like, fuck off.
>>
>>345459290
It hurts even worse when your favourite hero is Brood. Necro3 fast-push strats are basically impossible now.

Speaking of Brood, I wonder how Bulldog even stomachs this shit anymore. Maybe because he's a god-tier ratter, but still. NP and Lycan were my favorite ratters.

>tfw all 3 enemy carries have 50% more GPM than you when you're ratting and farming your ass off because they've been facechecking your teammates for 30 minutes
>tfw you can farm greaves on Enigma in 12 minutes, but whoops too bad you're never getting that blink because PL already has diffusal manta somehow and fucking rapes your mana pool in a second and a half

>Speaking of Brood, I wonder how Bulldog even stomachs this shit anymore. Maybe because he's a god-tier ratter, but still.
He's made a career out of the game thanks to being a famous member of [A]. Pretty sure he's a dota player for the long haul now no matter what happens to it. It's adapt or die for him. Hope he enjoys playing as void.

Ratting doesn't seem to be dead yet at least. A few top-tier teams have been trying a few strats like that with varying levels of success so it's not a lost cause yet.

>tfw you can farm greaves on Enigma in 12 minutes
If you're being serious that's incredibly good. I almost don't believe it.

Traps and status alignment are completely different. The build up on frenzy is so fast the player probably will have no fucking clue what is going on. Traps are always visible and clear.

wouldn't call the game spectacular by any means but just about everything intended to spice things up ended up being needless, stupid, and needlessly stupid
and it pains me so much that x6 shat the bed so hard on level design because it smoothed shit out like boss scaling and parts pretty nicely
>>
>>345461025
That's still problematic, because since they introduced that, dungeons and epspecially raids have different difficulty levels and doing it on easy for almost the same reward is killing motivation. The tool even rewards you for using it instead making an own group with traveling
>>

>The tool even rewards you for using it instead making an own group with traveling
wut. why? how?
>>
>>345461025
>What if instead the dungeon finder only worked for
Nah it's still not good enough. The dungeon finder only serves to make the game less sociable, and it's a fucking MMO. It's inherently supposed to be a sociable game. Otherwise you could play a regular RPG.
>>
>>345461396
Look at the pictures, it even displays the rewards. Bonus gold, bonus point currency, bonus bag for role in demand that can include mounts or other helpfull stuff. You don't get these if you don't use the tool

Sometimes the group finder needs more tanks or healers and rarely dps. If you are one of those classes you get rewarded extra goods.

If you do a random dungeon for the first time in a day it gives you resources.

>>345461327
True, it should have been implemented that way. The game has become far to accessible for something like that.

>>345461526

I talk a lot of shit about how much fun WoW was during its early stages, but I really always have to admit that in comparison to MMO's before, and during WoW's release.

WoW really did have the depth of an ankle deep pond when it came to others.

WoW Vanilla was by far better than current WoW, but it really was the beginning of the casualization of the genre.

Have a bunch of ideas

Of course make the buildup a bit slower so it doesn't happen as easily.

Your first introduction to frenzy was with the bug people
Odds are you would have him dead before it actually procced, and would now know what the status effect was
Your next encounter would be with the winter lanterns
The first one of these has no other enemies around it, allowing you to learn what it is and deal with it without any distractions
The first winter lantern in nightmare frontier (unless you fell off somewhere like a dummy) is the only one you can actually sneak up behind and backstab, so I suppose there is a chance you would kill it and never learn what it does until you run into them later in more dangerous environments
tl;dr frenzy was fine, unless you're incapable of learning
