I want to see what the other characters can do in boost style. There were rumors that the wisps in Color were meant to be prototypes of other playable characters, I'd love to play as knuckles and have the ability to dig underground whenever.

Having multiple characters can be fine if they play like sonic. It can increase replay value if you can replay the game again as tails, who controls like sonic, but is slower and can fly, or shadow who has a higher top speed but lower acceleration or something. It's simple and everyone wins, don't give them their own levels and gameplay types though

The robot sections are shit, I won't defend those. But the Knuckles sections are fun as fuck, flying around at mach speed while hokey rap music plays in the background is the best shit. Rouge's stages are a bit lower quality, especially fucking Mad Space.

No, Adventure and Boost2Win were the cancer that killed the original fast physics-driven gameplay into just "gotta go fast" and full-autism catering. Oh, and Shadow.
Multiple characters in general were hit or miss depending on the game. 3&K, Advance 1-3 and Rush had them play similar enough but with a minor balanced perk that made them noteworthy. Those were fine enough, and kept their games from getting stale too quickly.
You guys know Kirby sometimes has a bonus mode where you can play through the game as one of Kirby's pals? (Meta Knight in Robobot, Dedede in TD, ect)
Well why doesn't Sonic do that? Have ONE of Sonics recolour friends be prominent in the games story, then when you beat the game, you get [that character] mode.

There's potential in the Sonic Heroes style, but for the most part, they should stick with Solo-Sonic until they finally nail Sonic's gameplay down. THat deserves the most focus.
