Anyone else find adept gunlance to just be too clunky?
Like, I went into the game thinking my mains would be Adept Gunlance and Aerial Hammer.
Aerial hammer is everything I had hoped it'd be. Really fun, makes knockouts even better since you can usually get them out of a mount, and the upercut instead of the power slam and worthless spin makes it really easiy to hit the high heads.
But Adept Gunlance is just so slow. The way it locks you into the guard for a full second almost before you can turn is bad enough, but the biggest problem to me was the lack of the shot reload.
The new heat shit is really fun to manage with the gunlance, but it's so much easier to work with with that reload you can do after any shot.
Doing the normal reload constantly or having to wait for a good counter chance just breaks up the flow so hard.

Unless you're a completionist i don't get the complaint about the gathering quests. Like 90% of the key quests are hunts and around half of the villager requests are hunts too.
Even if you don't use a guide to know what quests are key quests you can get through the game only doing hunts. After village and guild hall 1 there is like one or two gathering key quests and the game marks them as urgent too.

Use Aerial Gunlance, you can pretty much spam full burst over and over again faster than you could on the ground. Works great with Normal Shots. I honestly just used Guild for any other type of shot though.

Like, I'm not far into it yet, but it seems like they've made a lot of TECHNICAL improvements/changes rather than adding more monsters or areas really.

I imagine a lot of those will be coming back in 5, but with whatever parts don't resonate really removed.

Honestly, 4U is a really good starting point. Good tutorial quests to introduce new players, decent balance of hunting vs gathering quests, and it doesn't have the added stuff Gen brought.
Gen is also a decent start, but some of the new things it added might not stick for future games, so don't get too used to these things.3U is the perfect MH to get, though. It had a good amount of new monsters, the areas were nicely designed for the most part, and it has the benfit of being on a console

I didn't really use ranged weapons in 4U, but I've been trying out bow in this game. Access to both Power Shot and Arc Shot is really nice, it seems like one of few weapons where's there's never not a time you can deal damage. I can see it taking some skill to keep those hits going constantly. Is Spread the best type of Arc Shot?
Later in the game do you unlock more coating ingredients at the Trader? I run out of Power Coating pretty quick and then fights tend to drag a bit.

If your playing online, just keep doing X->A->X->A->X to it's head. If you're playing alone, don't fear to throw in some Forward+A+X in the mix as well.

When I'm Lance charging, there's a little shine effect around the hunter once I've been running for a second or so. I looked up motion values and either this doesn't effect damage at all, or it hasn't been recorded. Does the shine mean anything at all?
Spamming the charge finisher into a downed monster's back feels sinful. As soon as something falls over it's fucked. An online LR Nibelsnarf died in a little over 6 minutes. Offline monsters are limping before the 5 minute mark.

Previous games sometimes had a handful of characters come back but generations is literally every fucking character showing up for a 3 second cameo just to give you some stupid fetch quests.

Striker or Guild style on Switch Axe? I know there's two Arts you can use for a basically permanent buffed up Sword mode so I assume Aerial and Adept don't work for that.
The Hunter's Hub is just a bunch of wide open space for no reason that takes longer than it should to move around and get ready for the hunt. There was absolutely no reason to design a gathering hall where the food table is so far from the quest counter.
It doesn't even have arm wrestling.

I've been using a few Petrified weapons upgraded to Lv4 and so far they still seem to be my best options. They all gain Green sharpness at Lv3 I think, and they've got good Raw.

Veterans hated having to relearn how to fight. Casuals hated having to learn two ways of fighting. I always thought it was thrilling fighting in 3D; learning to dodge vertically was one of my favorite memories in gaming period.

The only problem I had with underwater fights (I played on the Wii U so the camera wasn't so much a problem) was the dodge NEVER went far enough. Most water monsters were faster underwater than above and had some kind of spinning spear attack toward you, and half the time it was nearly unavoidable.

Whenever I saw Lagi, Ludroth, or Gobul winding up for a charge, I sheathed my weapon and swam like a motherfucker. Vertical dodging is more useful for avoiding horizontal attacks, like Lagi's tail swipe.
If there's one change I actually appreciate in this game it's showing the true raw and element of weapons. Even if it was a little odd at first to see a weapon with 5 element.

Try not to get too frustrated; a lot can happen real fast and it can feel really unfair- it rarely is. If something's really hard, remember it's also an RPG. There are stats, there's a way around it. Don't be afraid to sink time into it.
I don't personally enjoy external information sources such as wikis and message boards; I like to find shit out for myself. MonHun doesn't always facilitate this cleanly. Keep a wiki nearby if it makes you feel better.

Astalos was cool but has a massive safe spot beneath him unless he's airborne. Gammoth can only really rear up and try to squish you. Mizutsune kept dodging my attacks and tail whipping me, but never really did anything interesting. Glavenus was pretty cool too, the tail spin can be avoided entirely by standing anywhere behind his torso but that bite has a messy hitbox.
Also I realise it's low rank but they do far too little damage.

4U eases you in to it, and you get a decent balance of big monsters at the start.
Generations just drops you in without a real tutorial, and the early monsters you fight are really not super good for new players.
Cephadrome and Gendrome back to back seem like a really poor decision that will probably cause a lot of new players to drop Generations.

It takes like 30 hours to learn how to play and another 5 to learn how to fight each monster.
So expect to sink around 500 hours just to "git gud"
A lot of grinding but no nigga, no low level "kill 100 wolves for a wolf ring" no. You need to grind the fucking boss monsters A LOT.
I had to kill 69 Azure Rathalos, each one took me 25 minutes.
Also reminder that the monster hunter girls are ugly and only a turbofaggot chooses to play as a girl in monhun..

Fuck the FPS drops, it's a battle you can't win. I suggest turning on 3D for the extra readability. 3D on gives you more pixels and depth perception which helps a LOT to know what the fuck is going on in your screen. 3D option on with physical 3D switch all the way down for AA so the game doesn't look like a PS1 game.
This is honestly way more playable than with 3D option off. The extra 4 FPS aren't worth it.
