I'm tempted to purchase a Ps2.
Basically I want to know what's the best method (and ps2 version to buy) so I can play ANY region game.
I'm in EU/Pal btw.
>any region game
Get a PS2 fat and learn how to solder. Buy a modchip and install it.

Just emulate man
>>345367912
The best version of the PS2 was the PCSX2 version that came out for PC. Plays almost every PS2 game for any region.
Only shit it can't play as some first party games that used technical wizardry like Ratchet & Clank, so just get a HD port for that.
>Any region game
Legitimate? If you just want to pirate you could use FreeMCBoot...

I just bought a PS2 debugging station. It plays PS1 and PS2 games from all regions as well as burned games.

How unobtainable are those?
>>345372015
your better off buying a modded console
>>345372015
There is one on ebay right now for $380. That is more than double what I gave for mine and I still thought I overpaid.

I still have my launch ps2. They use to use lead based solder so the electronics last a long ass time. Now thanks to EU bullshit enviro laws they don't use lead anymore. Its why 360/PS3, and even Wiis died so much.
Time is coming for Xbones and PS4s.
Anyway... just emulate bro. You can buy adapters if you really want to use a dualshock 2.

I've never heard of any reliability issues with the Wii. Only problem I've ever heard is with dual layer discs.
>>345375407
I've known several that got the yellow light of death. Could just be a defective model. They did make a shit ton of them.

I got a slim PS2 for cheap and a Swap Magic for... I don't know, it was somewhere between 30-50€? Can't remember anymore. It allows me to bypass region lock, which is handy since the PS2 had an unreasonable amount of games that were stuck with slowed down 50hz in PAL
>>345376423
PS2 is when things for PALfags started to look better. Game logic was tied to delta time rather than vsync. And games started to get 50/60Hz toggles.
>>345376423
I just may be the only NA fag here to intentionally use PAL isos. There are some games that are (unfortunately) 25 fps so I might as well get the 50hz version and benefit from a nice resolution boost, assuming they don't just stretch the image. For example, Midnight Club 3 runs like ass on PS2, and the streets look so busy I can't make out a goddamn thing, so the extra resolution helps with the clarity. Capture cards can display both NTSC and PAL, if someone were to ask.
Yeah, if you have a decent computer, the best option might be to just emulate. Lots of games run fine
>>345377590
A lot also run like shit.
>>345377067
Key word "started". After Digital Devil Saga I will not play through a single JRPG at 5/6 speed ever again.

Search whatever games you might be interested in, see if they run I guess. Chances are, they're playable at least
I plan to buy one of these soon:

Anyone here got FMCB installed?
>>345368774
AFAIK you can still play Ratchet and Clank with PCSX2, you just need a modern processor and have to use software emulation.
>>345378338
At that point who cares? It'll still only run as well as a PS2 runs it.
>>345378419
You can still increase the internal resolution, and increase AA/AF with software rendering. It's just a cunt on processing cycles.
>>345375739
You aren't wrong I've had 2 do it to me.
>>345378561
Really? I always assumed it was locked to native resolution.
