Almost guaranteed. Specifically I think they will nerf his off the wall super. In previous games it came out at the same speed as his regular air grab from the wall so you would just cancel his pickup into his tiger spin super. Now you get this near instant speed Maximum Spider-like super that does ridiculous damage.
They probably won't nerf his ability to pick you up off the ground off of more moves though. That seems like a good improvement to the character mechanically. He's really solid and strong now, but his damage output is silly.
The thing is the damage output in general is silly. It doesn't cost extra meter to super cancel and the max mode is WAY too fucking strong in 14. Iori gets stupid high damage off of any basic hit confirm thanks to that.

I just think Max mode should maybe cost two meter instead of one. At the same time if it did no one would use it at neutral like they do right now. I like the idea of having EX moves as part of the max mode I think it's a good way to tie all the mechanics from 98, 2002, and XIII together rather neatly.
It's just disappointing when most of the time these EX moves just serve as a means to extend combos instead of some useful abilities at neutral or in pressure. It also means even if you don't hit confirm your max mode you get ridiculous utility out of it

I don't really think that max mode itself is problem. At least it is used in neutral too, unlike HD mode.
Having super cancels be more costly, like in 2k2, could be better way to make high damage more meter expensive, and thus more rare.

I think it should help more than hurt in this case: I think the reason demos decrease sales is that a lot of games advertise themselves with really flashy trailers, and the actual gameplay is lackluster in comparison. KOF has the opposite problem, where the trailers apparently do not do the game justice, and pros have reported that the game is really responsive.
I'd say the biggest obstacles is OGs being immediately turned off by the slower jumps and abandoning the game.

I think SFxT was where it went wrong. That was the game that likely told the Capcom higher ups that fighting games as a genre were not worth investing in outside of just SF, which they would have to keep on a short leash.
But Capcom as a whole has been shitty since the late 90s especially in regards to fighting games. Their spritework was incredible with games like Cyberbots, but they consistently delivered mediocre shitty games that people ate up just because there was nothing else for SF fans out there (best example being CvS2)
