AA is a hard one, at higher res it doesnt matter much but if you are a poorfag just run fxaa or smaa x1 or something

AO is taxing but it can vary, HBAO+ is god-tier but will gimp your shit pretty hard

lastly shadow res/quality is one of the most taxing setting in most cases, just go low or medium you can't really tell the difference

Screen tearing aside, Vsync is the only built-in option which limits frame rate in the vast majority of PC games. Meanwhile, with no such limit on frame rate, many older games on modern PCs will run at many hundreds or thousands of frames per second, which is a waste of energy and an unnecessary source of heat, and can even harm the GPU.

You could argue that players should know how to limit the frame rate using third-party software, but that's not an excuse for so many PC games lacking a built-in user option to limit frame rate without the use of Vsync.

And don't even get me started on games which don't even have a Vsync option, let alone a frame rate limit, and thus absolutely will burn up your GPU if you don't use third-party software to fix the game. Frankly I think this should be illegal.

I'm not sure what graphics card he has, but AMD's frame rate limiter is just like AMD's vertical sync: It just doesn't work with the majority of games.

The vertical sync, in particular, is actually designed to work only with OpenGL games, which is why I laugh when people actually claim they've successfully forced vsync in non-OpenGL games using Catalyst Control Center. They probably just turned it on and then assumed it was working without actually checking the frame rate. Because it's a scientific fact that CCC cannot force vsync in DirectX.

Depends. If it's a platformer and the shadows cast right under your character then they stay on low. If their downscaling is also piss (e.g. anything Unreal-based) then I also keep them on low.

These pixels all have the same size, and each one has a single color. A line can only be shown as a collection of pixels, and therefore appears jagged unless it is perfectly horizontal or vertical. The aim of supersampling is to reduce this effect. Color samples are taken at several instances inside the pixel (not just at the center as normal), and an average color value is calculated. This is achieved by rendering the image at a much higher resolution than the one being displayed, then shrinking it to the desired size, using the extra pixels for calculation. The result is a downsampled image with smoother transitions from one line of pixels to another along the edges of objects.

Baked lighting information ends up looking weird, although there are ways to use ambient occlusion and cavity maps separately, but then you have the problem of needing an extra texture on every object, and games already waste enough vram as it is.
