Graphics are bad on purpose, actually. MHX/Gen is ~1.8Gb and is able to fit on the readily available (and relatively cheap) 2Gb carts. MH4U and MH3U were both close to 4Gb and required 4Gb carts, which are 1.) incredibly expensive compared to 2Gb carts and 2.) Nintendo charges an extra fee for "large" (over 2Gb) games on the eShop on a per download basis.

Capcom logically cut the game down in size so that they could make more profit.
