There is a big park near my house that has a bunch of pokestops and two gyms in it.
Every day while walking my dogs I play Pokemon GO there and make smalltalk with the other people from my neighborhood who are playing.
There's a group of children who skateboard around with their fucking phones out like idiots and I'm always worried one of them is going to crack his fucking head open on the curb while playing. They banded together and are all team valor 4 lief they tell me. One of them literally said that. "Valor is the best, valor for life!"
There is a couple who plays GO together in the park that hang out at the pokestops and always drop lures there for everybody else. They are quite vocal about sharing their mystic affiliations and sometimes jokingly point at me challengingly if our paths cross.
There's a group of people I see down there who I've previously met as they live on my block. They're a bunch of Koreans going to the nearby college. They are all team Instinct and have lately been more forward with striking up conversations with me when they found out I was Instinct as well.
I went Instinct simply because you guys told me it was the literally who faction and I thought it would be appropriate.
The gym seems to change hands a couple times a day but the park is a little bit out of the way from the main boulevard where there is a huge saturation of pokestops and gyms so most of the players in my city I suspect just head down there rather than to my park. So my sample size isn't that great.

That depends on how fast pokemon keep showing up in your area. If you find a place where there are at least a couple pokestops, you can just walk back and forth between them (or just stand there if they're close to each other) and they'll refresh after a few minutes. You're more likely to get pokeballs than anything else from them.
You don't need to pay for this game, even for gyms. There's no point.
