This. It's very minimal, just fixes and cleans up a lot of minor things for better playability. In all regards that matter to you as a new player, it's still vanilla Morrowind. But that's okay because Morrowind doesn't need mods.

Pretty much the only "essential" mod. The graphic enhancers are nice and easy to find like Better Bodies/Clothes and Darknut's retextures. From there it's personal preference. What are you looking for?
Not really essential, but Tamriel Rebuilt is enormous if you just find yourself wanting more Morrowind. Wouldn't recommend it until after you've ran vanilla with MCP and MGE first, though.
