The gunplay is atrocious, the weapons don't procude a satisfying kick or to a minima visual recoil, and the shitty ass static rotating muzzleflashes (Fallout 4 tier) kills any kind of attempt at realism or authenticity. Bloodsuckers are mutant creatures with a very tough hide. An auto shotgun or explosives are recommended.

But yeah, vanilla STALKER doesn't have realistic damage. A headshot will kill most human characters out right but they will tank shots to the chest. STASLKER with a realistic damage mod is pretty great though.

And you're still better off using the 2x Red Dot, because the objectives are often very close and whilst you're trying to find the next enemy to shoot with a long range scope they can just hop towards you or shoot you from the the other objective point without a real problem.
There's little to no usage for long range scopes in the game, which is a shame, in my opinion.
Half the time you'll be in situations like pic related because all of your teammates have run off somewhere and died, so you have to secure the open spot even though you previously were trying to hold off the long distance.

I'm actually playing Stalker for the first time right now. Unless I'm understanding things incorrectly, there's a built in dice roll on shots that causes them to just vanish sometimes, presumably as part of the accuracy stat on guns. It's the only explanation I've seen for all the times I've fired a shot that couldn't possibly miss doing no damage. The gun physics might be realistically modeled otherwise, but that doesn't really mean much when your skill is being artificially curbed.

I still like the game, and I'm at a point where the issue is much less noticeable, but it's still mildly irritating.

inb4 "low crouch and iron sight". The misses will still happen. If the solution is to mod, then the game itself isn't what has the good gunplay, it's the mod.

Most of the shooting in the game is against other people. If you shoot people in the head on Master difficulty, they die. Bloodsuckers are a huge outlier in terms of damage they can survive. And if you pull off a lucky shot, they will go down anyway.

I actually wanted to try out a long range scope in that map and it just didn't feel much different from using the 2X Red Dot considering how many obstacles there are in in the center. And if the enemy gets on the right side, you pretty much can't do anything there as a sniper since it's just building upon building.
Problem with being an anti-sniper or even MG is that often a lot their team's marksmen also run off somewhere else.
Also, another problem that's very common for the sniper class is if you try and sit in windows or next to a wall then you're pretty much guaranteed to get fucked by an RPG at some point.

The Krauts get better the MG34 and 42 which are just better than the DP, and they get the MKB which is probably the best gun in the game. But on the other hand the Slavs get the PPSh and SVT, which are quite a bit better than the MP40 and G41. The T-34 is also miles better than the PzIV. The game is pretty well balanced asymetrically.

Slavs just lose most of the time because the long time players from the original RO are mostly wehraboos, and the people that only play Russians are kiddos who say Enemy at the Gates and CoD WaW.

The sound in Siege is crazy.
How you hear a sound is dependent on how close the source is to you, but it also depends on the quickest path it can take to you without being obstructed.

For example, say you're in a concrete basement and the only door is to your right. Even if someone outside the room is directly to your left, most of the sound will come from the right due to the doorway. If the shooter shoots a hole through the wall, you'll hear it from the hole in the wall.

Banzai is a huge advantage even when it's just one guy. It makes running out in the open actually pretty safe because it takes at least 2-3 shots of 30-06 to kill a banzaing Jap.

Really the only thing that's broken in RS is the flamethrower, which is because TWI didn't add the actual historical downsides of the M2. An M2-2 and an M1 Carbine + ammo weights as much as 2 MG42s, yet the flamer class runs as fast as a rifleman. Another thing is that the M2 in Rising Storm can just be shot instantly in tiny bursts. The real M2 had ignition charges at the end of the wand that had to be sparked off to actually light the gas being shot out.

You can see in this that before the gun can actually be shot the user has to trigger an igniter cartridge

But as it stands the flamer class can just sprint around and instantly zap any jap he sees with a 1/2 second burst of instakill fire.

If TWI actually was thoughtful enough to make the flamethrower slow as fuck since it weighs a good 70 pounds loaded, and made it so there was a delay before shooting because of the igniters, it would be pretty well balanced.

From what I heard the flamer in Rising Storm 2 is going to slow the player down a lot. Still doesn't excuse lazy game design in the original though.

It's not completely realistic. For example sound won't go through wooden barricades. The sound in Siege is good when it works but when it doesn't work it's extremely weird. Since everyones already said the standard Insurgency, Fear, Stalker, etc. I'm gonna say the Gears games. Even though I'm not a huge fan of them their gunplay has always been really satisfying since it's mainly based on positioning and movement instead of just getting the jump on an opponent. Also ever gun packs some sort of satisfying kick to it .

Yes, bf4's bullet drop and velocity are nowhere near what they are irl. At the same time, its a possibility a more realistic system would have changed the balance significantly in favor of the recon class.

On top of that consider that RO2's model for bullet drop is stupid as fuck because all the engagement ranges are so close it doesn't make it worth having in the first place (compared to RO1 that actually had long ranges).

What matters is not how "realistic" a system is, but rather how realistic it feels in relation to the game itself. Games never have proper 1:1 scale, so BF4's bullet drop and travel time "feel" right. Meanwhile RO2's bullet drops never fucking matter because you'll never be at a range (outside of being a useless fuck sitting too far back to be doing any good) to actually experience it.

Turns out, lots of bullets are super sonic. You know what that means? The bullet moves faster than sound. As in, it hits you before you hear it.

WAHHH, how can someone one shot from 800m away?

The damage model (especially mod) is better and more interesting than the standard regenerating health shit most other games do.

The only bullshit is that some handgun rounds will do more damage than rifle rounds, but that's not unique to DayZ.

But, getting shot makes you bleed, getting hit in the leg breaks it and alters your movement, you can lose consciousness but not die, ect. And you need to get medical gear to fix that shit up, not just sit in a corner and take a breather or just spam bandages like STALKER.

Standalone has a bone stat that's sort of weird, but the mod was great.

I don't think any game has it right. Every time it's lacking something. Some games has best arcade shooting mechanics like Max Payne 3, but has no guns. Some of them have shit tons of amazing firearms like F:NV, but shitty game engine ruins everything. It's always something.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds RO2's ballistics to be really stupid. You can't even really see anyone at beyond 300m, and below that travel time and drop are negligible.

I wish that the game just used hitscan guns so the hit detection netcode wouldn't be as shitty.

Iraq and Afghan vet here. No games. Insurgency took pains to make realistic environments though.

The day a game gets the sound of incoming fire or incoming mortars right is the day I never play a shooter again. I'm worried about the BF1 IDF... but I doubt they'll get the whistle just right

I don't care about how broken the game was on launch. I don't care how long they've taken on Killing Floor 2 for so little actual development and broken promises.

What I hate is that they've taken something they've been known for and appreciated for, and completely given that the finger to make something the old community wasn't asking for.

I don't care how good the weapon handling looks for Rising Storm 2, I'm not touching anything TWI handles until they go back to the large scale combined arms gameplay with meaty, satisfying gunplay.

Shooting if fucking STALKER is awful, it's much better in ARMA. Hell, it's much better in Battlefield, Insurgency, RO2, Squad as well.

I don't get what people enjoy about mirrored poorly rendered guns that shoot bullets out in a giant cone of fire that is set for shotguns in other games, with piss poor sound, visuals, and animations. Bullets are retardedly slow and have drop appropriate for standing on a black hole.

Battlefield has bad velocity and drop too, but at least bullets go in the general direction of where you're aiming, I don't see them flying off like a golf ball in a hurricane like you do in STALKER.

The problem is here that I didn't plan on having to sit in that tight spot, but due to my teams idiocity, as well as the sides of the map being completely closed quarters, I have had to move there in order to cover the open exits from where the attackers kept shooting our guys.
It would've been easier if I had some sort of alternative for the same flank to cover, but since I don't have, I have to just sit in a tight spot.
And yes, I always take the mac with AP rounds.

Yes, that's the spot I usually take, but even so it proves to be pretty pointless to use a bolt rifle, especially with a long range scope. Once your teammates start dying somewhere on the sides, you pretty much have to rush to protect the point. Where as in comparison, with RO2, the huge maps often mean more open spaces to protect and capture, so often you can take someone out, who's at the point or near at the point, I.E. MG or another sniper.

You would move your head. You don't rotate your gun independently of your eyes, its not at all accurate. I only see it being viable in games in cqc but the issue is turning it off for everything else.

I generally don't like it in games, but maybe that's just me
