Well in Britain it's been running for 50 years, people who first watched it with their parents now have their own kids and want to watch it with them, people have good memories of watching it with their family and keep watching out of nostalgia, there are tons of reasons people could watch it. Also it launched when there were only 3 channels so people didn't really have a choice.
It's pretty shit but it's sort of tradition at this point and it brings families together.
