This thing is rather tame, if you want extremely otherworldly mecha look no farther than Nagano and Washio.
I love the latter's designs but they are extremely "different" to put things softly.

In the sequel their reincarnations get together but it's really bitter because the sequel keeps pushing the idea of you don't have to follow destiny blindly, yet they do and it shits the bed so hard because of it,also the creator (Shoji Kawamori) hates chinese people.
