I'm finally getting a New 3ds XL tomorrow but I'd like to know which CFW I should get. I'd like to be able to download 3DS games since I don't really have any money for games atm.
U buying new or used? If the official firmware is above 10.7 you are shit outta luck, so dont bother. Also, if at 10.7 you will need a physical copy of OoT3D and a PowerSaves. A9HL+Luma is the best cfw available.

A9LH basically permahacks your 3DS. No EmuNAND needed, and you can update the system like normal. Google it and you'll find a step by step guide.
Cakes, RxTools and the like are pretty much deprecated. Everyone uses Luma now which is a fork of ReiNAND. There are other loaders out there, however Luma has all features you want and unless know what a toolchain is you should not touch the rest.

Luma3DS is basically the most supported one so get on that. Don't forget to put a9lh on your 3ds so it's 100% bricksafe no matter what software related problem you get, provided you have backups.

Read it a couple of time until you're somewhat familiar with the fancy terms. Before doing anything backup your saves, then format the console. It is a must and it isn't mentioned in the guide, not formatting the console beforehand will most definitely land you a softbrick.

After softbricking my 3ds three times I tell you, format the console. It takes about 2 minutes and it will save you a potential brick. Maybe it's paranoid but it's better than having to buy additional shit in order to downgrade

For Smash you must have a new 3ds and a Linux distro. It doesn't work on an old 3ds or a 3ds nor windows.
