LFR gear in Legion is like LFR gear in MoP: same tier set bonuses, trinkets, and looks just lower ilvl and colors.
Several seasons into PVP. The gear is still less itemized than normal mode raid gear. PVP gear scales up in battlegrounds instead of having a better item level than heroic gear.

From what I could tell, most guilds didn't look for the ring (or the cape in my case) but just that you were far along enough in the quest to feasibly get it. I was only on the first portion of the Cape quest when ToT came out but still got into a fairly good guild quickly. Conversely in WoD, I got into plenty of pugs with guilds that didn't need me to have the ring since I only started playing again way later in the expansion after quitting during Highmaul.Might just be because I'm a healer though.

If you are doing normals and heroics you absolutely should do it. It wouldn't be bad to do specific wings once you start mythic. Obviously by the time you are finishing up mythic LFR won't be lucrative but as you are getting to that point I'd argue it's an important facet of gearing (unlike in WoD and moreso than in Cata/MoP).

- One of my 4 world quests for the highmountain tribe completed (Plus a tiny 75 rep gain)
