Original Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o5v7Sj9S_Y
Memorable, nice beat, catchy. Makes you feel immersed because the music blends in with the environment.
Remake Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKLOdSKIk90
Just generic ambiance. Takes you out of the experience because the instruments sound too realistic, it feels more like you're in front of an actual orchestra instead of the environment of the game.
Why do we keep doing this shit?
It works with some games. Platforms doesn't work with well.
For example
Halo 3, first person shooter, it is very effective.

I dont know ive always prefered the orchestral music, the system shock remake has it but i think it suit it better. Like when i was playing systemshock 2 and the medic theme came on. As cool as it was i though it didnt fit at all.
>>345099818
It only works in loud, booming grand finales.
>>345099818
We can tell you are a teenager.
>>345100203
>muh classical
>muh maturity
That argument shows you as underaged, orchestral music works for some games but not for most.
Not really

I love orchestra but that was the biggest reason I didn't pick up the remake desu.
The original soundtrack fit much better.
Ratchet & Clank is utter shit, of course everything on the remake would be poorly done.

Meanwhile, Halo 3: ODST is raw, unrivaled audio from the gods of music themselves.

>Why do we keep doing this shit?
But we don't. R&C is the only game to have done that in like 10 years.

Mario Kart 8 Isn't an orchestra, it's big band.

Thoughts on the music in Final Fantasy Tactics or Radiant Silvergun or Wonderful 101 (e.g. soundfont-orchestral)?

>certain types of music are ALWAYS bad in video games
There's a time and place for every kind of soundtrack and you're retarded if you think otherwise.
>orchestral version = Orchestral soundtrack.
You people are fuckin retarded.
With one chipset people composed memorable soundtrack. today with the fuckin Tel-Aviv orchestra and unlimited resources all that video games composers can do are elevator musics.
Video games composers (or piece of shit like John Williams) don't know how to compose a fucking theme . all they do is plagiarism of gustav maller.
The last great orchestral soundtrack in video games must be Headhunter because there was a real fuckin composer behind it (Richard Jacques).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGrN_RD86C4
When you have a guy like Yuzo Koshiro you can take his compositions and make a orchestral groupe play them with ease.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuxeyAU15NE
Orchestral music can be really good vidya music if it has actual melodies and isn't just aimless noodling
Like, Uncharted has orchestral music but it works well because all the songs are built around one 5 or 6 note pattern

>game has orchestrated music, in game radio station, & effects
>game boasts total immersion & realism
>>345100860
This game has that big problem that I mentioned in the OP, where the music sounds too "real-lifey." It's hard to explain but this sort of took me out of the feel, I couldn't get immersed like in most RPGs. The soundtrack made it feel like I was actually in front of an orchestra instead of in whatever environment they were presenting me, and clashed with the feel of the game.
>>345101875
guitars and orchestra you say?

I'm not even going to bother looking at your links but simply remind you that you're defending poorly-written melodrama.
>Sampled instruments.
>Compression and limiter eradicating dynamics (if applicable).
>Music written as an overlay, destroying nunace in general... usually hook-based melodies.
>Piss-poor percussion played on a keyboard by a retard that's wouldn't know a crash from a ride.
>5$ mic preamps used on every track, making everything flat as fuck.
>Mix not sourced out to a proper mastering studio, and instead done "off-the-cuff" by a tracking engineer or the composer.
>tfw rarely any nujazz in games
>>345107054
Okay, what is the context behind Rayman having a mariachi 'Eye of the Tiger' cover of all things?
>>345107874
>nu-jazz
