ITT: Try to convince all of us preorderers to cancel it and all us preorderers will try to convince you to preorder

Let's go
>>
Here's my reason why you should preorder: it's basically a cross between Elite Dangerous, Spore, Starbound, Minecraft and Star Citizen But only the absolute best parts of every game
>>
>>345068804
If you were stupid enough to actually pre-order then nobody can help you.

>>
Another reason to preorder: if every single human bought the game and played it 24/7, we STILL wouldn't discover everything the game has to offer for like 500 centuries
>>
Fellow preorder army, don't waste your time with the trolls

They're not worth it
>>
>>345069112
>everything the game has to offer
You mean all those 7 different planets with 16 million color swaps?

Fuck off marketer
>>
>>345068986

>Cross between:
>Horrible Grind
>Death by scope creep
>Unfulfilled promises
>Minecraft
>Ship-Spinner the Game

>>345069112

That's an entertaining notion, but one easily debunked: You'll see everything you'll ever see in 20 hours, because everything else will be generated with the same algorithms.

Custom Monsters in Starbound turned out the same way; with only a few behavior sets, a small pile of creature parts and color swaps.

If your game is any good, I'll buy it a month after launch. If it's not any good, I won't.

Good luck on the dead cat bounce.
>>
Your mother will need the money for the hospital bills
>>
>>345069369

This

>no multiplayer
>no lasting impact except the names given to things
>Solitaire nosave color swap the gaem

If they had spent more money on development than on marketing, perhaps they might have delivered on some of those features
>>
>>345069836
Not every game needs multiplayer

This game probably isn't for you
>>
>>345069836
>no lasting impact except the names given to things
I think there is for big stuffs like destroying a space station, but saving every hole everyone make in the ground might simply take too much space.
>>
>>345068804

It will never live up to your expectations. You will stop playing it after 11 days.
>>
>>345070192

>YFW shill tells you to not buy the game.

Do they take back money when you do that? Was that minus a nickle?
>>
>>345070192
>>345070194

Hah,

You have a resource based procedural environment game,
It's minecraft, except nothing you do sticks around or matters, and it doesn't have multiplayer.

It'll be cool and novel for a handful of hours then the buyer's remorse will set in.

>>
People value things differently. If you pre-ordered already, fine.

Personally, from what information there is, I wouldn't pay more than $10-15 USD for a game like this. Maybe I will get it at the summer or winter sale next year.
>>
Why the fuck would you pre-order a game? It's not like they're going to run out of digital copies.

>>345068986

This might be a reason to buy it, but it's not a reason to pre-order it.

>>345069112

This might be a reason to buy it, but it's not a reason to pre-order it.
>>
>>345070682
>I assume people will get bored of that fast
You assume too much.

Not that it matters since the game is apparently so vast that you'll probably never stumble across anything anyone else has even named.
>>
>>345069112
>if every single human bought the game and played it 24/7, we STILL wouldn't discover everything the game has to offer for like 500 centuries

Why does this even matter? It's true that the game technically has billions of times more content than you'll ever see, but that's not any better than the game having just twice as much content as you'll ever see.

For all intents and purposes, the game will generate random planets for as long as you want to play. The main difference is that it's not actually random so you could go back to one of those "random" planets and it will be the same as it was before instead of being re-rolled, but I'm not sure why this matters because your post is a good argument in favor of never going to the same place twice. It's nice to know that the developers wrote a cool algorithm for procedural generation on a large scale, but your experience will not be any different from that of playing a game which has no actual number of planets but rather generates environments randomly forever.
>>
>>345071034
Apparently if you discover a planet and upload what you found in it people will be able to see its resources, so planets with valuable minerals might be visited often
>>
>>345070553
How big do you think half life was? Or quake 3?

Last time I touch Skyrim, I spend 50 hours collect every mushroom and herb I come across before even finishing the first quest.

How is that fun you ask ? Well it's not.
Now multiply it by factor of a million.
It is existential-crisis-inducing large
I fail to see how that can be fun, AT ALL.

What's the point of this game when you will never finish it ?

I'm honestly not seeing what this game has to offer. You fly around visiting different worlds, sure. But what's the point? The whole massive scale of the galaxy doesn't intrigue me, it just makes me think every planet will be completely meaningless and trivialized. What's the point of discovering a new species or planet when there's literally a billion others out there? Its not like in Pokemon where there is a defined goal, and if you think about it Pokemon would lose its luster if you just infinitely caught procedurally generated creatures.
>>
Are there actual galaxies in this with space in between, or is it more like one giant galaxy filled with planets? Are there things besides planets?

I legitimately do not understand the appeal of this game.

The planet variation is bullshit.

im too jaded to wait for release. you know what drives the wild speculation? past experience, and no matter what game it is, there's always a huge portion of people hyped for it to the extreme saying it's literally going to be the next GOTY. these people are toxic and need to be opposed publicly at all costs.

so yea its prob not going to be thaaaaaat bad, but a point needs to be made just to keep the pendulum from swinging too far into mindless consumerism which plays right into the BIG CORPs hands.

After translating over a thousand planets worth of dialogue, the player learns that the galactic, planet devouring fungi wants to rape the entire universe.

minecraft and terraria were fun because you got to fuck around with your friends.
This game will have none of that.
How the devs failed to realize this is fucking baffling.
I'm pretty sure they made some really poor budget choices, and blew a fat stack on marketing , and incorrectly estimated how much work it would take to implement multiplayer.
They've even openly admitted that they might add multiplayer on later depending on adoption,

Bet they'd even fucking charge the player extra for that feature whenever they get their heads out their asses

You hop from star system to star system getting fuel through different means (mining, trading, stealing or exploring) to hop to the next solar systems, some of thoses planets are dangerous for your health so you need to upgrade your equipment to stay there long enough to do your things. It's effectively singleplayer and it can be played offline, but you'll miss out on the infos uploaded by the community if you do.

What we know

>the individual tracks will play in full lengtht at key scenes of the game
>i.e. beginning, first warp jump, first space fight, reaching the center etc.

>a sound artist has extracted every individual peace of the album

Still not enough to justify $60.

Going to get it when the price drops to $10-$15, maybe, depending on reviews.
The price needed to be that high to justify their marketing costs I guess.
They should have just kept marketing costs low, kept game cost low, and then customer satisfaction would have been higher, they would have sold more copies and their company might have had a good title under their belts.

You will have to slog through endless planets of strikingly similar terrain and suspiciously identical fauna and flora to no end.
And when you get to the center of the galaxy as thousands have done before you you won't find anything interesting ( maybe a fun easter egg)
And then you'll keep the game on your hard drive for another few months without playing it before finally deleting it with a taste of disgust in the back of your mouth.

You're preordering a chore. You're preordering suffering.

Here's a pic of a game made by procedural generation. The game weight less than this pic.
>>
So lets sum up what we know about the game:

Confirmed:
Big
Proceduraly generated creatures + planets
A beam gun to gather resources and to teraform ground
A ship that you can fly in
The tools you have are upgradable
Space battles between spaceships (We don't know the reason for these though)
You can name animals
The game is 70 bucks

Notable things:
From all the gameplay footage we do see, all the planets so far have been plains + couple of trees with strictly only herbivore creatures with a cave or 2 that differ in temperature, no crazy densities? forests? deserts?

No events? other then evil guardian robots going for your ass if you kill creatures

No building of any kind

No story

From what I've seen and what I think will happen is this: you start off, go to a planet, walk around and name herbivore creatures while gathering a couple of supplies to upgrade your ship/gun and then flying off again to the next planet who is almost identical in density and almost just a recolored version of the other planets

Is it really worth to preorder a 70 bucks game for this premise? why not just wait out and see some more gameplay from review copies

Why not just wait like 3 days after its out, see if it has any major problems or faults then buy the game? Can you seriously not wait 3 days?

The only reason to preorder is for neat physical goodies, and even then most of the time they're just cheap chink plastic clutter.
>>
It's simple 3 reasons:
1)procedural generation has always, and will always been shit. There is a reason games have level design teams and people like kojima take it seriously. It is especially detrimental when the whole game is about the atmosphere and exploring levels. A game like persona 3 can get away with it, since you don't really give a shit about floor layout.
2) i know this sort of contradicts my last point. But there is no SOLID aim. The game doesn't know what it wants to be. Elite dangerous shows comfy exploring and trading. This has no idea what it wants it's all online, but the world is too big to see anyone and you can't play with friends. All gameplay has sort of been a guy walking around randomly, not even exploring or anything.
3) the entire selling point of the game is the longevity and size of the map. But it's pointless if you will never achieve this. It takes 500million years to explore the map? So fucking what? I'll never hit that gameplay time. Not even close to 1%, so why should i care? it would be much better if they designed a world that took 20 hours to explore, and put a lot of attention and whatnot in it. I get that's not how the development works for this sort of game but still, similar to my first point. Games who make big maps for the sake of big maps always end up shit, with big empty messes that take too long to traverse.

from .kkrieg wikipedia
>Textures are stored via their creation history instead of a per-pixel basis, thus only requiring the history data and the generator code to be compiled into the executable, producing a relatively small file size. Meshes are created from basic solids such as boxes and cylinders, which are then deformed to achieve the desired shape - essentially a special way of box modeling.
So basically you're wrong.

God damn all of these space sim games going on and on about exploration this exploration that. While rummaging through the cosmos is no doubt fun to an extent I don't want to be limited to looking at beautiful nature. I want to unleash an army of automated machines on it, then watch as my mechanical slaves do my bidding as they hunt, harvest and mine everything of value. Okay, forget the "multiplayer", it's nonexistent.

What does this game have to offer as a single-player game.

It seems that they run a basic seed and you are given a procedurally generated universe.
But this is just a lot of planets with different recoloured? plants, animals, trees, etc.

So, obviously you would get bored of exploring after a while. But you have some AI units/combat and some crafting/building.

Okay, this could be interesting. But wait all of those elements are EXTREMELY shallow in this game.

So you've just paid $60 to explore some recoloured planets and enjoy some very shallow other gameplay elements. And they want you to go to the centre of the universe for.....fun?

It doesn't sound very fun. Am I wrong?

It's going to become tedious within the first 2-3 hours after you realise that every planet is essentially the same randomly jumbled stuff.
The planets disintegrate when you leave, so what's the point of doing anything on those planets?
You will literally never see another person in the game, the chances are so low that it's almost impossible.

ok. lets just be honest and admit that their is a goal. Its just that the goal is terrible and has no bearing on the gameplay whatsoever.

Don't pre-order anything.

Seriously why would you do it? You afraid that the internet is going to run out of stock on launch day?

Call it what it is.. pre-release cosmetic DLC. Yes. Forget day 1 DLC, pre-ordering in 2016 is essentially NEGATIVE day DLC.

>What goal?
Get to the center of the galaxy.

>Weapons does not make something a game. A challenge to overcome makes something a game.
You're right, NMS however does have challenge to overcome, as you need fuel and better gear to advance towards the center, thus creating progression

>Actual enemies or "Don't touch the showpieces" space popo
Sentinels only intervenes when you break the law on a planet like robbing a factory, or when you damage the local exosystem too much, like killing animals for no reason or blowing stuff up. They're not on every planet though
Apart from them, there's also space pirates, and depending on how you wanna play, traders and space police. There's factions too, and perhaps being too aggressive against one will permanently turn it into your enemy.

You ship can't go there immediately, you have to upgrade it, and navigate more dangerous planets and solar systems the closer you get to the galactic core.

They've been awfully vague on why you want to reach the center.

Maybe the remnants of humanity are building a colony there.

Besides, you can get various missions from people along the way.

of course this is what it will be. The randomly generation can only create assets that the 15 numale programmers have created. The randomization will consist of things like different lenths and amounts of appendages, and colors. Same with biomes. Its technically impossible for this game to not be hot shit.
>>
>>345097187
So that's it? Fuel and speed constraints?

Why would I care about or worry about how "dangerous" a world is when I just need to touch down long enough to upgrade my speed and fuel enough to eventually reach the center?

Why would I care about Sentinels or Space Police or whatever other shit is out there if my immense speed can carry me past any of them?

It's absolutely what's going to happen, people are far too hyped for this. Have they seen the team? It's tiny and everything is procedural generation. There's be a basic formula to creating the creatures which will become obvious after a short time

What makes the journey fun?

Some people are comparing it to minecraft in this thread. So if It's like minecraft: you mine a tree (rocks), get some wood(fuel of whatever), kill some zombies(intergalactic police), and jet off the the next world(planet) only to know you affected nothing and you'll be repeating this process over and over until you reach the center. All with very low chance you'll see even a random player. Oh yeah I get to name my world "buttfart". Sounds thrilling.
>>
>>345097291
Actually, you don't have to ever set foot on a planet to reach the center, you just need money to upgrade your ship and buy more fuel. So you can simply protect traders ships from pirates if you're a moralfag and take their cargo to sell it, or attack the traders ships directly for better cargo. Or simply mine asteroids for fuel.

The more you know.
>>

You can see and interact with players, however there is no way to differentiate who is who and it's borderline impossible to find them in the vastness of this empty game.

Basically everything is there to make a good game, but they threw it all away because "muh progressive game design".
>>
>>345068804
... But what do you actually do in this game?

Is this a 5 billion year walking simulator?

Star Citizen is both a garbage and a scam. The thing that pisses me off that any game imaginable can always be more fun with friends. The fact that there's already a system in place to interact with other people but it's wasted on fucking nothing is what really pisses me off. What's the point of running servers so nobody can interact with one another?

You're both missing the point. The game has multiplayer, and it's just wasted on fuck all.

It pisses me off that they have servers handling the unused multiplayer while they don't have anything handling planet generation which makes anything you do on a planet temporary.

No I don't want multiplayer, I just wanted to point out that this piece of shit has multiplayer, but stores any changes done to a planet temporarily. I think it's a mismanagement of resources.

Slow down chief, there is no interaction between players confirmed. It isn't even confirmed if there's a dark souls phantom system. All we know is

>>
>>345099959
>It pisses me off that they have servers handling the unused multiplayer while they don't have anything handling planet generation which makes anything you do on a planet temporary.
That.... doesn't seem like it'll need the same thing. Saving every change everyone make on every planet they walk on sound like it'd need waayyy more memory than simply running a server.

>No I don't want multiplayer,
So, you said that the game would be better with multiplayer, but then you said you don't want multiplayer. So you're either backpedalling or an edgy kid who want games to fail so he can live a second TORtanic

you aren't allowed to like it because the developers have beards and if you do you like to see how your wife gets fucked by black men lol upboat pls
