the maps are designed with verticality in mind because 4's gimmick was parkour and jumping. I can see why you wouldn't like that but I think 4 actually has the best maps in the series, design wise that is. it makes more sense to have landscape be bumpy and irregular instead of completely flat. Plus it doesn't really matter that much when your character automatically climbs over small obstacles

What man? I don't really get what you would be talking about. The maps were all great and in many areas there was terrain that could be destroyed like one in the ancestral steppes where an area is just 3 big cliffs and one could get hit by something like Rathalos' flames a couple times and collapse down. There was even an area on a couple maps that'd tild if hit hard enough. The terrain and the game's design around those terrains was fucking amazing and I just think it'd be better if you played it yourself and formed an opinion before disregarding it because of the "funky terrain", because nothing destracts you from the monster at all. If anything the maps make fighting some old monsters much more dynamic.

The monster roster wasn't balanced real well between monsters that are somewhat easy, a little bit harder, challenging, and fucking annoying as shit; they all tended to lean towards the latter. I found very few of them fun, and those that were were almost entirely new to 4.

I don't like the GL. Lance Adept. You need a 1-2second window set-up for it where you stop attacking, dash to cancel recovery animation, then perfect guard the attack. there's still dlc. the most notable ones are hyper silver/gold rath, hyper deviljho, hyper rajang. i might be forgetting other ones, but the weapons they're blocking are nothing to write home about since hellblade/tigrex btfo most other weapons. hyper silver rath dlc is needed to max the def on silver sol armor, which is the speedrunning armor in this game. it's only def, though. all in all it's not bad, definitely nothing compared to 4u's g fatty dlc lock.

Since it doesn't seem to come out until 9 PST, I'll be out of the house by then until evening (wouldn't be able to play it out and about either way). Other MonHun games I've enjoyed greatly and having them on Digital can be convenient.

You have the choice of playing as a Felyne which gets infinite buffing skills but you have to attack the monster, so you're kind of an aggressive support
Otherwise like the other anon said, SNS can use items without sheathing so armor skills that makes your items affect other users means you're essentially an item supporter.
If you want to go whole hog, go Hunting Horn, but be prepared to learn one of the weirdest feeling weapons in the series.

How does the new cooking system even work? There's 2 meats but I can't choose both even if it tells me there's a meal from those ingredients. Do I have to do more quests first?

How do I capture monsters? Most of the time I leave people to capture them but I want to know myself. they usually put some shit on the floor like an electric trap and throw some shit at monster. what are those? and how do you know when the monster is ready to be captured?

Not true at all. I'd recommend clearing single player quests first.

The monsters start limping after enough damage has been done to them, they're ready for capturing at this moment. You combine trap tool with thunderbugs or nets to make traps. After trapping the monster you throw 2-3 tranq bombs at it.

Please at least do the key quests so you can learn the basics of everything and get used to the monsters a little.Also it's fun.

You use Tranq bombs on it while it's trapped by, well, a trap. You can tell if it's ready by using an armour skill, or it's basically readyto be captured when the monster limps off to go to sleep.
Everything else is MHGen specific, so I don't know.

before quest, equip free health flute skill and in quest use free health flute

after the monster is limping(not drooling, limping), follow them until they go to sleep, then trap and throw tranquilizers

Guild Lance's new third poke does significantly more damage (three hits, 15 MV each) but it takes longer than the typical lance poke. It throws a wrench into the three-action rhythm that Lancers know and love and leaves them vulnerable for much longer than they're used to.
Striker Charge being very powerful is just a bonus in my eyes. I'd want the third poke back to normal either way.
