Drakengard, the succession of endings are the epitome of tumbling down/hero dies, except that Caim is a pretty shit hero.
Oh also Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, but then that's a game where you know precisely how the main character gets fucked, and in spite of it being a prequel to Kingdom Hearts 2, you've never heard of the sidekick. So it's a game where you start out knowing that everything you do will come to nothing because you're playing a pointless facsimile whose only job is to get out of the way of the actual hero.
