1-3 are on GOG. 4 has some licensing issue but there's no real downside to pirating it. I'm pretty sure you can still play online with a pirated version since someone created a new server browser to replace the Gamespy one.

You can play LAN in 3 with the Last Resort mod too and I think you need Tunngle but you can play it online too.

1 - 2 is top down. I remember playing 3 during high school and bought 4 with half life 2 on my way back home from school.

You might have issues with the video cutscenes, as anytime they try and play for me the game crashes. You can play all the missions in co-op though (with the Last Resort mod) so I've just been playing them in co-op with AI teammates.

I like 3 better than 4 honestly. 4 does do some things better than 3 but it's the other way around too. 4 can be simplified in some ways, like only being able to shoot through doors, whereas in 3 you can shoot through walls too. There's quite a few other differences I've seen people list too. I'll post it in my next post since it's too long for here.

They're both worth playing though and each have their ups and downs.

There's also some smaller nitpicky things I've seen like in 4 all doors can open both ways while in 3 doors are programmed to only open one way like in real life.

I also kind of like how 3 looks more than 4.
