Funnily enough there's only tunnelers in the same locations where there were geckos or bighorners in the vanilla game. That's all the mod author did, replace those two enemy types with tunnelers, so if you avoid those spots where you remember there being geckos or bighorners you can go through the entire mod without fighting a single tunneler.

Haven't played Dead Money yet, can you explain the Dog/God character to me? Is there a reason for the alternate ego being named God other than the fact it's the reverse of Dog? Is there some sort of narrative to the character or is he just supposed to be some nifty sense of duality and contrast that Obsidian decided to roll with?

Yeah, but from what I know of the character, Dog is actually eager to listen to anyone except God and God claims to only want the best for Dog, but also refers to Dog as "a/the beast" for his voracious behavior.
Just seems like such an off-the-walls character that I can't make sense of. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Dog is eager to submit to an authority figure due to a mix of schizophrenia and his past in the master's army, while God is the more logical personality, trying to protect he and Dog's independence. It's a reflection of the super-ego/id relationship, with the ego being the potential fusion of the two that you can bring out at the end of the DLC.
They're fairly simple characters, but they reflect/embody a lot of more complex themes/ideas.
