I've seen people on /v/ post about how it's too dated to play
I'll probably reinstall it soon to give GMDX a try.

Oh please no
It's referred to as "the first one" because Human Revolution was a soft reboot.

>>344992789
skip it, it takes place way too far into the future anyway. You can always play it after HR anyway if you want.
I must be the only person who liked IW.
not so much for the main plot, though the ending was cool, but the side stories.
Obligatory.
>>344991791
Oh yes!
>>344988103
I srsly hate to be a Deus Ex fan nowadays.
On the one hand you have kids who defend Human Revolution as a real good game and on the other side you have oldfags who are still butthurt about Invisible War and denie, that while it has it's problems, it still got some cool things going on.
>>344988103
Remake when
>>344994078
Never, it seems.
>>344990675
>polished & re-released
Why? its perfect how it is, a product of its time, a timeless game
I hope Warren Spector and Otherworld are successful with their new game, then they make System Shock 3 to be great, and perhaps they can work on a spiritual sequel to Deus Ex.
Even though I guess if they stick with the style SS2 went for, they're already kinda competing in the same genre.
>>344992789
It's really not that good. Now that I think of it, I barely remember anything about it.
>>344993694
Oldfag fan of the original Deus Ex here. The original was great. Invisible War is pretty awful. Human Rebvolution is pretty great.
I was posting about how dated it was yesterdayI really want to be able to get into it, but I just can't even through multiple attempts through the first few missions
>>344996848
What do you mean by "dated"? What's wrong with it?
>>344996848
I had a similar experience, but a different reaction. I replayed the Ellis Island level at least 200+ times due to my autism for perfection. When I discovered there was 93% more game left, I had a virtual orgasm.
>>344997053
I just can't get into the stealth mechanics, I feel like whatever I do I always fail the stealth. To an extent, I also have trouble with the aiming with the crosshairs, as in not hitting where I'm aiming at even though I am not moving.I'm just terrible at it, and I am having trouble gitting gud
>>344997430
The crosshairs are a bit of a pain if you're not on Advanced or Master. What I always do when starting up the game is knock pistols down to untrained and use the points to get computers up to master, because you'll start with Trained in pistols anyway due to a but. However, you can just get pistols up to Advanced instead of computers if you want. When you find a scope (think you can find one if you check out the sunken ship or whatever it is around Ellis Island), it'll be even easier since you can guarantee headshots if you zoom in and shoot immediately before JC's Parkinson's has the chance to kick in.

If the combat is a problem just carry around a gep gun with zero points in the skill. You dont need to aim with a gep gun.
Its not a pure stealth game. This isnt thief, JC Denton is a bona fide nutjob, sneaking around with a rocket launcher IS a viable stat.
Prod niggas in the back, on their spine.
Seriously, embrace the chaos, stop trying to find an optimal solution like modern linear games do, figure out how to shoot people with low level guns, and then when your jumping around with Auged out supa legs, shooting people with master level rifle skill like you're a coked out Motoko Kusanagi with freedom in your veins and courage for nerves.
Best thing is Deus Ex and Morrowind is thinking of whacky solutions to problems, and being able to actually pull them off
>>344998108
No, it isn't. Leaning means you can get caught, 3rd person you have extra awareness while still being unable to be detected. Not to mention leaning is used around corners, while 3rd person can be used while behind a chest high wall.
>literally making up things to be irrationally update about

>>344998279
I've never been spotted while leaning.
>>344990343
It's so good! Try it anon
>>344998108
>what is immersive sim
>What is looking glass heritage
1st person, locked nigga.
Only problem with deus ex is that it doesnt let you lean FORWARD over railings like Thief and SS2 do.
Dishonored's takedown/choke is infinitely superior to HR's cut to black, play unimmersive animation bullshit
>>344995491
>a product of its time
>a timeless game
Those are contradictory statements.
I like the dated aesthetic. If they could make an HD version of the game using the newer mechanics and leveling system but keep the old graphics that would be great. I don't know why indie devs waste time on pixelshit when they could do millennium era 3d graphics. With lighting and shaders as good as we have now you could really do some neat stuff with it.
>>344998325
Even if what you said was true, doesn't mean they have to make you unable to detect via leaning in a future game.
If you think leaning = 3rd person camera on demand, you're fucking retarded.
>>344998468
I remember someone saying how Dishonored combined killing animations with player control, in shit like air assassinations and whatnot while Human Revolution took control away of the player via takedowns instead of melee, and I'm in total agreement.
Also I don't think it is only immersion for 1st person only. Being able to tell where everyone else is while still being detectable makes stealth too easy. The key is balancing leaning with enemy awareness.
>>344998325
I have, you can stick your head out for too long.
>>344997906
I usually put my exp into pistol once and then either computer or lockpicking once, but I'll try that out.

I might have to give not trying to play too seriously a go.I want to get into using the augs, but I don't know where to set them on my keyboard because I'm on a shitty laptop that makes me I've got Morrowind too, but I haven't touched it yet, I'll keep your advice for that too.
Thanks anons, I'm going to give it another go now.

>That boat is near the hobo you can chat with, right?
I think that's it. Been awhile since I played it. It's either there or the docks where you start, but I think you're right.
You know, everyone always says prod with the prod, but I never use it. I just use the blackjack. Just hit enemies in the small of the back. I like it because it doesn't use batteries.
Don't take the combat strength aug, it's useless. Take the one that lets you move around crates.
>>344990675
>>344990889
>>344998218
They should just do a nanoaug era game already, the more they spend on the mech era they just make mech augs look 100 times better than they were intended to be in the original, make a side story in places that Deus Ex didn't explore and bang, you don't need to keep tip toeing around the original's story while allowing devs enough freedom to expand the universe.
The thing is, if they can't improve their modern Deus Ex games to at least match the original, I'm pretty sure that's a sign they would modernized a Deus Ex remake. I would rather let it be unmolested.
>>344998759
Seriously dog. Embrace the camp.

Hey guys, I want to ask for a good mod for DE, I just want better textures. But if there's some shit like restored content I would love to know about those as well
>>344999529
If you ONLY want better graphics play Revision, it also expands some very bland parts of levels. If you want a general improvement on both gameplay and textures use GMDX, no overhauls or changes to core mechanics, just bugfixs, AI rework (much needed) and an included HD texture pack.
>>344999893
I will try GMDX thank you very much kind anon
>>344999893

I don't get this. I played it in 2012 the first time and I thought it was still fresh, even better than human revolution which I played before.
It's my favorite game now and I played it multiple times.
>>344999163
To be fair, Jensen can't run as fast or jump as high as JC, also mech aug users have a reliance drugs to make their Augs work, and Jensen is unique in the fact that he can't "overdose" on augmentations. Mech augs might be more powerful is some cases, but they also have a lot of drawbacks.
>>345000757
It's just graphicsfags.
>>345000910
DX1 has pretty great aesthetics though
>>345000998
You're not a graphicsfag if you think that. All they care about are pretty graphics, not aesthetics.
>>344988103
there will be a remake funded by cucks in less than a year
>>345000998
Is there a single daytime mission in DX?
>>345000910
My problem with a ton of graphics fags is that half the time they cant even articulate what they want.
Seriously, ask them what SSS is, what ao, anisotropic filtering is.
Whats the difference between MSAA and others?
How do normal maps work? What is a texel?
The more i learn about tech the less I care about how old games look. Best kind of graphics mods are ones that fix shit like integer framebuffers, banding on textures, framerate hacks, injection of AA and anisotropic filtering.
Quake 1 legitimately looks fantastic when you get linear filtering with mip mapping going.

Imagine how great Human Revolution and Mankind Divided would be if it handled Adam's blades like Dishonored's sword combat. Also takedowns and body carrying.
I don't like it very much, yes, but it doesn't bother me that much either.
>>345001670
>>345001308
What was the reason for this?
Purely for atmosphere or technological issues back in the day?
>>344998468
I was quite disappointed when I saw mankind divided had the same takedown mechanics, I thought that was one of the main flaws eidos saw in human revolution
>>345002568
it complements the cyberpunk story, like in blade runner
>>345002451
I never had a huge gripe with the takedowns, although I do love me some dishonored. I doubt they'll let go of the flashy killmoves in MD, normies will complain
>>345002568
>>345002675
also Deus Ex is all about infiltration missions, which make more sense to happen in the night time
>>345002451
Takedowns bother me for two reasons. First because how it simplifies what could have been proper melee combat and second because of how astronomically overpowered it was. You're 2m away from an enemy at any angle? he's dead, instantly, without a chance to defend.
Also, was body moving really a thing in HR? I vaguely remember a tutorial telling me about it, but I'm pretty sure I never actually moved any bodies and nothing happened.
>>345002568
I like to think it's to compliment the fact that someone gives JC shit for wearing sunglasses on a night mission, so to spite them he wears them on every mission every night.
>>345002842
Yeah you dragged them around by holding a limb and then scooting them around, it was slow as fuck and almost impossible to get them up stairs or behind cover

>I don't know why indie devs waste time on pixelshit when they could do millennium era 3d graphics.
Bad pixel art is bad. Bad 3D graphics are ATROCIOUS
Last thing I want is a new generation of indie games that all immitate the PS1-era graphics. Same as how current indie devs missed the Pixel timeline by about half a decade or so and went for 8-bite rather than 16-bit style of pixel art

>>345003365

>>345003490
not that anon, but I wouldn't mind low poly high res texture graphics for indie games, that wouldn't be PS1 era 3D but still feasible to indies, I suppose
there is literally nothing wrong with low poly models if the resolution and aliasing are high
>>345003490
I think we'll see that pretty soon. Have you seen Devil Daggers? It's actually a good art style but could inspire be the beginning of poorly antialiased ps1 graphics

>>345004045
HR is an okay game, but it gets way too much credit.
Far too often the story falls back on 'well you have no fucking reason to do anything I say, but maybe if you do it anyway everything will turn out ok?', and the gameplay basically boils down to making sure you don't run out of candy bars, but I'd rather play it than most other modern """"""""""stealth""""""""" games

Should at least get Kentie's launcher for raw mouse input and fov. Maybe the dx 10 renderer, you can turn off the special effects so its just more compatible with modern windows.
If bring in the in game chat and type preferences , you can change alot if shit, add anisotropic filtering, aa. Nice vanilla shit.

Feeling old yet?
Mankind divided is going to be shit. You know why? Because they're going to stray even further away from the original. The only reason HR was acceptable was because they knew they had to appeal to the fans.
Now since they got something going with HR they're going to stop tip toeing around Deus Ex 1 and go full blown casual.
I suspect even HR fanboys will be upset with some changes.

what made Deus Ex 1 great is that is was 100% true. if you run around like a terrorist you get 1 shot by police like a terrorist. All forms of gameplay maneuvers were rewarded equally, however. As long as your game style isn't speed running, you get enough skill points by having fun and getting into the world of conspiracy.

>>345012602
Combat is kind of bad, cheese it with magic or summons/followers.
Everything else is god tier. It used to be flawed but unofficial patch makes it an absolute classic. You're given cool tools to solve situations since most spells have an out-of-combat use (like summoning the ghost of a recently deceased npc to chat with it, or reading people's alignment to help you make the right decisions) you can get real creative and it truly feels like playing an RPG as in you play as your character and reason like he would.
I'd advise reading the manual, awesome bits of fluff in there and playing as a mage for a first time. The music really grew on me.
>>345012602

Yeah I remember when a plauge wiped out most of the US and California sank into the ocean
I finished Invisible War last night. After a few failed attempts at starting it, I buckled down and forced myself to play through the first few hub worlds. By the time I got to Egypt, I was actually enjoying myself and pretty engrossed in the story.
Almost every problem with the game can be blamed on it being developed for a console rather than PC. This leads to the unfriendly HUD, the focus on combat/universal ammo, and the GODAWFUL load times. But in every other regard - worldbuilding, characters, plot, writing - it's pretty goddamn solid.
Really I was most fascinated by the things they introduced - the Omar and JC-Helios becoming a cybergod and creating a fortress in Antarctica especially - moreso than the reappearance of popular characters from the first game. I mean it was nice to see Tong and Beth Duclare again, but their screen time like the game itself is far too short.
I did enjoy it overall and even think it's a better successor than Human Revolution. I'm also excited to play it again, take a "kill everyone" route.

No I think you're right. The first one we see has no impact at all - it's just Jensen tapping the guy and flinging him to the side.
A friend of mine actually called human revolution the "first game" recently. He said that the new one is coming out soon and "the first one was pretty good so this second game should be even better", referring to HR. I just said "well there are two other games before HR" and then he just had to open his stupid mouth and utter the words "oh yeah well those are so old that nobody cares about them".

Atmosphere brought about by genre convention. I bet you they'd have it be raining in New York and Hong Kong if the engine allowed it. Noir films always used rain for atmosphere, and that was the same feeling Blade Runner was trying to evoke, it being a noir film in the future. Blade Runner isn't necessarily fully cyberpunk, but it's still a huge influence on the the genre.
>>345021180
The way I see it, plunging the world into another Dark Age would make life miserable for everyone but the elite, the rich would still be well off because they can just pay people to do their farming and shit, but the middleclass and poor are going to get fucked or will have to toil their entire life, and humanity will have to fight it's way back to the technological state the DX world is in now and then another jewcorp will just do the same as the illuminati but under a different name.
If I join the illuminati I will most likely get betrayed by that faggot, but if not then I will have a say in how the world is being controlled, I can make it better.
I have yet to hear Helios option but I am 100% sure it's shit.
I still lean towards the Dark Age ending though.
>>345021685

The main thing with the New Dark Age is that it will bring a decentralization of power. That doesn't equate to egalitarianism per se, but it will certainly prevent big, globalist entities like the Illumaniti, Majestic 12, or multinational corporations or governmental bodies from gaining power. The world is brought back to a pre-modern social order, which, depending upon your point of view, may have some virtues compared to the contemporary one.

>>345022531
>le dark ages were bad meme
>>345017137
No saddly there is no "fix" to the consolitide of IW, but if you can ignore the console limitation, the game isn't that bad honestly from writing standpoint. There was an attempt of remaking the game as a mod for the original Deus Ex, it was supposedly playable but I haven't tried it.
>>345021797
It's true, but it's mostly technical stuff like tools, leftover car fluids or unused cement or wood planks and everyday use shit like plastic bags. Like seriously I don't know how you Americans can throw away a perfectly usable plastic bag and then buy the next week another one for your groceries. I'm not even poor it's just wasting money. There is nothing wrong with having a stack of old newspapers and and old toothbrush laying around, they see action atleast once a year.
I kept around a bunch of floppy discs and drives, thought about making them sing like they did on youtube when I have some time. Turns out you can still flash borked motherboards with those.
>>345022531
The dark age would stop any big organization like MJ12 or the Illuminati from gaining power, there would still be big corporations and bodies that would gain and hold power but nowhere near the scale as they did. Tong basically wants to turn things back to what they were before modern times, which depending on how you view things, can be better or worse than the current state of the world in DX.
Merging Helios basically ensures that JC/you would have absolute power and act as a benevolent dictator in order to guide people from not being total dicks.
>>345023665
>What are the chances that MD will go "augmented = muslims/certain minority, you just hate them because you are afraid/jealous of them and that's the name of the game, folks"
That was HR as well and we're getting even more of that stupid shit instead of actual wacky conspiracies.
>>345023715
Yeah well, unless you don't mind the countless diseases, cutthroats, public executions, elitist social structure where Noblemen shat all over the peasants and whatnot.
But I think the Dark Age ending might be best, I hope that the modern human in DX might have more empathy and a better understanding of eachother and that they can rebuiled humanity so that it cares for everyone and just not the 1337.
>>345023919
>elitist social structure where Noblemen shat all over the peasants and whatnot
It's not like we don't still have that though
>>345023879
The way Helios presented his idea to me gave me the impression that I would have no power whatsoever and that the AI would simply use my brain to understand humans a little better, to become a little more human but that JC would basically die.
man, it took me a while to figure out that I had to disable the frame interval, use kentie's launcher with gmdx and the opengl renderer instead with a fps limit of 120 to finally fucking have a smooth, bug free experience.

Then why did he give a code because of the jealousy card, and even confessed for you, exposing everyone meaning Page, DeBeers and others. >>345029240
Well no; 'safe' usually favors the powers-that-be. The Illuminati ending makes the player assume that the powers-that-be are ultimately the best chance for humanity (which seems a bit hard to believe after everything that happens in the game)
>>345029240
There's no real good ending, in none of these situations is everyone left unharmed, siding with Everett just guarentees that governments will never become too powerful or people too rich without the regulation of the illuminati. It's a safe ending if you trust there to not be another MJ12 crisis

>the game is highly unbalanced. It becomes easy in the end with jacked up weapons that are heavily upgraded as well as the completely godlike dragon tooth sword. Hard beginning, braindead easy end, the opposite of how a game should be.
>for as good as the story it, the story's pacing isn't very good
>shitty ending, though that seems to be case in every game. The sad part is IW has the best ending of the games
>it says a lot that if you played as JC instead, IW would have a better story overall just because he's a better protagonist
>>344995491
No you don't understand, it needs crysis graphics at the very least, controls that can be played on a controller and JC needs a love interest throughout the game. Also you can't make any legit choices and the ending mirrors HR's rushed 4 buttons endings

You didn't win the social battle from just calling him for being a jealous asshole, though that was one of his motivations. You had to call him out on his plan being insane and wouldn't achieve what he'd wanted. Even then, he gave you the code in hopes that maybe you could understand after seeing the "final boss".
Besides, Darrow wasn't behind everything in HR anyway. You had people like Page and others from DX doing shit, and Page was just a power hungry asshole.

It takes a lot to explain because it's a very complicated topic. A lot of this comes from my reading of G.K. Chesterton (whose works are referenced in-game), so if you wanted to understand my stance, read him.
Pt. 1
Basically, the world is screwed up because of modernity: globalism, materialism, the relentless pursuit of technological advancement. These things don't make the world better for the majority of people; they often make it worse. Remember Leo Gold's speech at the very beginning?
>Don’t believe me? It’s all in the numbers. For a hundred years, there’s been a conspiracy of plutocrats against ordinary people.
>Number one: In 1945, corporations paid 50 percent of federal taxes. Now they pay about 5 percent. Number two: in 1900, 90 percent of Americans were self-employed; now it’s about two percent.
>It’s called consolidation. Strengthen governments and corporations, weaken individuals. With taxes, this can be done imperceptibly over time.
Global interconnectedness is the means by which corporations and states are able to indirectly control people's lives. You don't live off your own wealth or labor: you either work for a multinational corporation or receive welfare form the government. Either way, you lose autonomy.
>>345031541
The Nazi grasp of historical accuracy is not the point.
>>345015525
This only makes sense if you assume JC and his friends are under no threat of harm from his enemies, and the only reason he kills is because someone violated his moral code.
Nuance, dipshit.
>>345030949
What did he want? That's what I'm lacking here. He says no-no to any augs, but then when you expose him to a jealousy card or "you can't do a genocide and expect people to progress" (which they will by the way) he says "fuck it" so quickly that he even gives up all of Illuminati on tape, what the fuck was his agenda then, he seriously did not know that massive amount of people would die?

>>345031164
Are you for real? Because if you're joking I'll have to tell you my heart can't take this.
>>345029912
>and that flaw lies entirely in the engine
Unreal and UT99 had pretty great shooting, it's literally just the awkward weapon handling that was stylistically designed to be that way, but you can diminish the effects of it with accuracy and recoil mods. Seriously just get good in pistols and slap some mods on it and you can play it as any other shooter. It's not supposed to be an FPS. To be completely honest the schizophrenic design in HR was way worse for me, where it doesn't know if it's a 3rd person cover shooter or COD.Seriously if you want your game to be play like COD, don't have toggle on aim down sights
Also the passwords are great, I wish they actually had some early stashes that could give players some good stuff in the beginning if they wrote down the password for more fun replay value. Fuck people who google the passwords, they ruin the game for themselves.
I agree with the rest though, especially the AI. I mean fuck, UE1 already has a really wide AI tweaking pallete, they literally forgot to use it.
>>345031956
As I said before, he knew full well people would die regardless. He wanted to expose the truth about the Illuminati and augmentations and had hoped that his plan would result in a clean slate, where the Illuminati and augmentations would not be around to fuck with people. And I did say before, it wasn't just the jealously card that would get him to say "fuck it" to his plan. Replay that shit again, it's a combination of different arguments that gets him to see that his methods were too extreme to work that would only serve to kill a fuckload of peopleand an arbitrary counter on whether you met the minimum requirement for convincing him.
