Awesome news! I've never played an EDF game before, but this game looks pretty cool and a lot of people in these threads are saying they're really great games. The game is giving me Starship Troopers vibes. I love it when games get ported to PC and hope that D3 continues this trend, so I'll definitely check this out. Thanks for sharing this news OP! No anon. It makes me really happy when a platform that historically doesn't have many Japanese games available on it starts getting ports of Japanese games. It makes the platform have more fun stuff to enjoy, introduces games to a potentially new audience, thus helping people find more fun new games to enjoy, and gives people more options on how and where they play their game if they so want it. Now people can get this game on PS4 and/or PC, rather than only having PS4 as an option beforehand, so people have more choices! They can go one way or the other (or even both!), and I think that's really cool. I just hope people enjoy it! It would suck if people buy the game and find out that they don't like it.
Plus I'd be lying if I said that wasn't one of the reasons I was considering getting the game; I like supporting companies that do that.

The DLC weapons [cause they all are] come as a single weapon that doesn't get added to the drop table and as such you'll never find better versions of it and they'll be outclassed by things in game.
For the most part they are not worth it, although a couple of them have their uses even in high level play.
The only DLC I'm personally going to get are the ones that are not actually listed yet, which are the mission pack DLCs.

Fencer has everything he needs on higher difficulties. Air Raider was handicapped without the ability to summon vehicles in underground mission so addition of the spider mech was necessary.

Every mission puts you in a gigantic open level, most times a Japanese city scape. It then floods the stage with enemies, and you gotta kill 'em all.
EVERY SINGLE BUILDING is demolishable, and that really increases the sense of destruction you can achieve in the game.
There are lots of enemy types, and a pretty damn big number of different weapons and character classes, which, make for lots of fun scenarios.
The multiplayer bit helps.

This will have its own community and more people will become fans of EDF through it. I'd imagine it would have a bigger community depending on how it runs on lower end hardware.
PC is very different from console, a lot of people have computers compared to PS4s. They don't have to be gaming PCs, a lot of people just play games on PC at low settings/frame rate. A lot of people who buy this will be running it worse than the PS4 version, but they'll still be playing it.
I just can't see this having a huge impact on the PS4 version. A lot of people there have invested time into the game and want to keep their progress. Like you said they will pay for online, but some can't afford it or don't want to.

Bro, I love EDF. Have played every game in the series. None of them run very well in later levels. Even emulated versions running on beefy PC's lag like motherfuckers. Most reviews of the series mention the lag.
We all love EDF here, but let's not kid ourselves and call them masterful examples of programming optimization.

Please don't shill like that. If only one game had lagged badly, I'd understand. But literally all of the games do, spanning several generations of consolves. The programmers clearly prioritize number of mobs on screen over visual fidelity or framerate. It's okay to admit that.

The PS2 had terrible hardware compared to the Xbox and even GCN, no shit it lagged. The 360 versions of EDF don't drop nearly as bad as the PS3 versions (360 having better multiplats is normal).
PS4 runs at 1080p and is clean visually, it's not a GPU issue. The PS4 CPU cannot handle so much at times, and if they cut back on it the game would be way less crazy and fun after a while.
If you want a stable FPS on console like you said they'd need to cut back the mobs, and mobs increasing as the game goes on is a big part of EDF. It keeps you playing. The console CPU is the problem, they can only do so much without neutering the game

Also I should mention that it's not just the mobs. People seem to forget all the enemies have physics attached and all the buildings are destructible. The maps are rather large too
