I'm guessing that you keep dying because you use weapons that require you to stop to fire them. Use weapons like Blasthole Spears and Jackhammers. Using hammers and blades are even better since some of them increase your damage resistance while you attack with them but they're harder to learn. You'll still want to use cannons for big targets and dropships, but keep in mind to put a large amount of distance between you and enemies when you use them.

Level the armour before even trying to play them at higher difficulties, fencer is the easiest class to level up with too, youre going to get nicked alot even if you can dodge so you really need to have high armour. A good fencer will be able to hold an entire army when using hammers because of the damage reduction, but you absolutely need the armour to even attempt it.
Also carry canons/mortars on backup, for hitting things hard from a distance, you can match tanks for damage if you can land the hits well and hold your own in melee should it come to that.

The second post is a bit generic.
The selling point of the game is that there are hundreds of giant bugs/robots/alien craft/godzillas/dragons on screen at once, and it's up to you to kill them all.
You get 4 classes, each have ~200 weapons (can only use 2 per mission)
There are 89 missions (138 with DLC) that all differ from each other.
In one mission it'll be infantry and tanks vs 50 giant robots in a field
In another it'll be a pacific rim, godzilla v mecha showdown
In another it'll be an underground insect extermination
In another it'll be missile launcher tanks vs alien fighter ships
In another you'll be destroying the mothership itself
In another it'll be a clusterfuck of everything you've seen coming for you at once and so on.
There's also amusing b-movie-esque dialogue and voice acting.

Not him but the KB+M controls and prospect of mods and better performance, seems like it might be a tad more popular there too, niche games dont do seem to last very long on consoles. Its a more definitive version of the game. For me personally I have a friend who plays on PS4, so Im torn between jumping ship or not.
