I'm afraid of trying out 144hz.

I don't have a lot of money and only upgraded my GPU after 4 years.

I already can't go back to consoles because of sub 60fps. I'm afraid that if I play at 144hz, I won't be able to afford to feed that framerate in the future and it will ruin 60fps just like 60fps ruined 30fps, leaving me unable to play video-games.

get gsync monitor.

if you get 90 fps or something, you still get 90hz with no tearing. if you get 78 fps, you still get 78hz no tearing.

better than 60 is better than 60. even 70 hz is a gigantic improvement on 60. you wouldn't think so, but it's literally like 17% more frames..

60 fps- 16ms
144fps-4-5ms

you made the wrong decision based on a study that is either incorrectly conducted or doesn't say what you think it says.

japanese researchers proved in the 90s that basically any human can discern steps up to 300hz with ease.

you're basically telling everyone with a 144hz monitor that games aren't easily twice as smooth when they are.

did you really think you outthought a whole industry, that you were just smarter than everyone else who doesn't understand waht they're talking about and can't adequately evaluate their own experiences?

"i'm the only person who isn't a sheep" syndrome.

>but I sure can't and the science seems to back that up.

The science doesn't back it up. You either didn't read the study or didn't evaluate what it says or don't have the education to understand what it says.

>As with the tactile measurements, both threshold sensitivity and gap detection were measured for visual stimuli. The measure of threshold sensitivity was essentially a measure of flicker sensitivity. Flicker sensitivity was determined by flickering a light around a constant mean luminance. Flicker frequencies of 2, 4, 8, and 32 Hz were used. The depth of modulation around the mean luminance was adaptively varied to achieve a threshold contrast value in a modified two temporal interval task. Gap detection was measured by presenting one standard and two test intervals, one of which had a temporal gap in it. The width of the gap was adaptively varied to find a threshold gap size.

Strobe flickering is not the same thing as watching a continuous moving image. Do you know much cognitive psychology? I'd wager you don't.

Saying you can't see the difference is a lie to back up the fact that you tried to call everyone else stupid and wrong. Maybe you played a 144hz monitor set to 60hz. If you've ever even seen one in reality.

people are actually glossing over the voltage thing and not realizing it's one of the worst shit shows a company ever tried to do to their customers in the pc arena.

hint: when a company can only produce a card HALF as fast as the opponent's flagship card, while having to overvolt it to reach higher clock than it was designed for, the company is *fucking dead*

It's less a bottleneck and more a frame time issue. Stuff like Syndicate and Witcher 3 can have some really nasty 2-3 frame dips.

Only true bottleneck I've encountered ( 100% CPU with <100 GPU) was when I was trying to run the damn gameworks shadows in Asscreed.

By the way, I've got the CPU at 4.6 all the time. Fuck step speed.

the 750 Ti is quite decent on low settings for modern games actually. the CPU on the other hand...
>>
>>344974058
I've been thinking about upgrading to a better CPU, but I fear I'll have to change mobo as well and I'll end up in a slippery slope where I end up changing everything. And I'm on a tight budget here.

Well /v/, I have now ordered my living room VR rig, how'd I do?

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/z7cV6X

Some of the parts are left-over spares, such as the samsung 840 and the 5TB WD Black. I'm taking a 980 Ti out of pic related to throw in the new guy for now until 1080 Ti's come out at which point I'll return little bro back to his home.

The mobo is fine.

But you have a locked i5. In a board designed for overclocking. Why do you people always do this.

>>344976895
What speed is the ram you bought.
Right now, it's running at a 1600mhz effective rate.
>>
I built this about 4 months ago with my NEETbux. It originally had a 960 but I upgraded to a 970 when one went on sale for super-cheap. 8 GBs of RAM and the 480 GB SSD were added after the original build as well.

Overall, it's okay. I may replace the CPU with an i7-4790 because I use VirtualBox a lot and would like to be able to stream games for Steam friends, but who knows. I'm not sure if it'd be worth it.

I still need to sell the 960. It's the 2 GB EVGA SSC one. I also need to reapply the thermal paste for the cooler (got a 212 EVO which is completely pointless when running at stock but it cost barely more than a chocolate bar so I thought why not, I can use it in a future build).
>>
>>344977020

damn wish I had known that too, it was my first build so its my fault though to be fair I haven't really seen a need for overclocking and the advantages of it might just go over my head anyway. The Mobo wasn't that expensive anyway
>>
>>344977194
At least you can upgrade to a 4790k in the future, which is pretty much the best CPU for gaming, especially in older games.

I also have an old keyboard that has severe input delay, and a mouse that has a spastic MW and an almost non functioning left click. On a 16-inch monitor, using a 20-something year old stereo as speakers.

I had a 144 Hz monitor once and it was really nice, but after 2 years of no vidya and going back to 60 Hz I don't miss it.
>>
Alright.

This is rustling my autism way too much. Why did so many of you buy a locked CPU with an overclocking board?

>>
>>344977542
>Why did so many of you buy a locked CPU with an overclocking board?
Because the Z97 model of an H97 motherboard usually costs no more than £10 extra (and even then that's rare unless you're looking into the meme-tier price bracket) and can provide additional resale value, so why not?

A lot of the time I've found H97/H170 boards to be more expensive than the Z ones because they're less popular.

It's a makeshift solution. The case just sucks at moving the air properly through the case and it gets trapped on the HDD/SSD department unless I air it out. I can spike at 50c if I don't air it out regularly.
