To be fair, 2014 in the Metal Gear world was very highly technologically advanced.
Big Boss was reconstructed with parts from his clones, the DNA is almost identical enough to prevent his actual body from rejecting the body parts. Is it just me, or was anyone else expecting more of a blood dragon-esque, heavy 80s, terminator type of atmosphere to the story and settings?
I expected psuedo 80s cyborg plot twists, with PTSD, and dumb 80s action movies tier sound effects and villains that took themselves way too seriously. The only person that fits that bill is skullface, and he barely has any screen time.
This game's time setting feels so jarring to me, it's referenced decently, but I don't feel like im in an 80s sci fi espionage movie like in previous games. MGS 1 and 2 felt very much like they were in the semi distant 2000s, mgs 3 felt very much like the 60s. V however, feels NOTHING like what an 80s movie setting would feel like. The technology was insanely advanced, and outside of that everything just has this call of duty level realism to it. I love the game, but i fucking hate it at the same time.
