Yeah mid-game I honestly had moments where I was thinking to myself "holy shit this is the best game in the series" only to have it dragged down by the end.
If anything the ending was disappointing for the opposite reason VLR's and 999's were, those two just went full retard whereas ZTD plays it super safe and just ends it on this super anticlimactic note.
I feel like they were definitely strained for time and money on this one and imo the cracks start to show in Apocalypse, up to that point it feels like they're building up to some big climactic twist but then Zero just drops the terrorist thing on you right there

Speculation? I thought it was pretty well laid out in the TIPS.At the beginning of the game you are shown Satoru's sister directly after having been told about Keiko. Becasue of this the player, aka Blick Winkel, mistakes Satoru's sister for Keiko which causes some unspecific horrible thing to happen to her. Satoru set everything up to create an infinite loop that sucked in Self, and everything would culminate with him replacing Self and essentially becoming a god capable of undoing his sister's eradication from her illness.

I really think there's a lack of characters being affected by the plot revelations in this.
We don't see Sigma and Phi's relationship change after they learn the truth, and its a crime that D-Team doesn't get an epilogue.

It's probably because whatever happens with Sigma is going to be awkward. He either stays in his young body with the woman he loves and his daughter, leaving Luna, Kyle, and Lagomorph on the moon and basically fucking over his younger self from ever having a happy life, or he returns his consciousness to the moon to be reunited with his creations/clone son where he belongs and young Sigma gets to enjoy his youth without going through the apocalypse but he'll have to be introduced to Diana and learn that they had children together and Phi is their daughter and also they have a 124-year-old son who kind of caused this whole mess. It's a bit similar to the Back to the Future scenario Akane was going on about.

Something I don't get is if the whole point of the game was Diana/Sigma having Phi/Delta, why was Delta there in the timeline where they won the coinflip? I get that the transporter would put him back before any of them diverged, but wouldn't the Delta in the Payoff timeline not have fulfilled his main goal of being born?

I re-read R11 in preparation for ZTD and i came to this conclusionThe mind-transfer phenomenon is not caused by the space-time transfer. Enomoto says the computer at sphia is responsible for the events of the game, but the player assumes that was a lie after finding the real device in Hotarubi. He was in fact, not lying, and the supercomputer at sphia is basically the device that allows alpha, omega, inubushi, hotori, satoru, and kokoro to think. This explains why satoru says that he feels as if his thoughts don't originate in the brain of the borrowed body, this also explains why kokoro can think clearly in satoru's body even though it was drugged heavily.

It took me like 15 minutes to realize where Q/Zero fit into the game after that reveal.

I think the consciousness exchange is a direct result of being a twin. Older twins can exchange with other older twins, and younger twins can exchange with other younger twins. Of course, there's nothing explicitly stating that Kokoro is an older twin and Hotori is a younger twin, but it's definitely within the realm of possibility. The same thing applies to Enomoto, but you can also assume that if someone is seated in the wrong body they'll undergo no further consciousness transfers unless the one they switched with is in one of the other transfer areas. Inubushi would take the place of Sayaka, a younger twin, and Self would take the place of "Satoru", an older twin, in another older twin's body.
The question then becomes who Enomoto's younger twin is, and my answer would be Yuni. As for why Yuni wouldn't transfer in the younger twin trinity, that'd be due to him being present in two out of the three zones and cancelling himself out.

Like, for example, the room with the FBR only having 3 slots for authentication, or during Sean's conversation with Zero being in third person. The first would instantly rule out in my head that there could even be a 4th person, and the second would instantly rule out that the player is Zero.
The amount of hints was fair, but at the same time they really should have gone through the script and removed or changed some of these things.

999 in particular felt like an attempt at a re-do of ever17. i really enjoyed ever17 when i first played it, but i would imagine that it's hard to like as much if you've already played 999 because so many of the twists are only effective the first time around, and that the pacing is glacial in comparison. i still feel like the ending route in ever17 is easily the best of any of his other works though.
remember11 is probably easier to enjoy coming out of the ZE series, as not as many elements were re-used and the pacing is much quicker, though i don't think it's as strong a game in general as ever17 was.
