What game has best captured the feeling of being a wizard?
Arx Fatalis and Ultima 8 were pretty good.

The start was pretty tough in Arx Fatalis for a mage, but it's one of those games where spellcasters are legit op, even if you don't stat for it

we need more good wizard games

Lost Magic for DS is a shit game, but it had an absolute shitload of spells you cast with a 'rune drawing' system. It had online multiplayer, and even though I had little idea of what I was doing, it felt amazing when you remember the right spells and pull off a sick combo
Found a video of the sequel, never played it but seems similar enough

i think neverwinter nights 1 captures the feeling well enough
The Immortal has you playing as a wizard.
Funny game in that old game-design "everything kills you horrifically" sort of way.

one more for posterity. Can't find any player deaths though - you'll die more than these orcs.
