I just saw jsrf at my local game store yesterday, along with other things ive wanted to play but never got an xbox for, like outrun 2, stubbs the zombie, ninja gaiden black, and panzer dragoon orta. How do these games run on 360 if anyone knows? At least jet set since this is a jet set thread

JSR>JSRF

They're both good games but they're almost entirely different games at the same time. Both do radically different things with the same basic premise, and as someone that likes more arcadey games JSR appeals more to me

Only the standalone version of JSRF runs well on 360. The one that's bundled with another game (Sega Rally or something like that IIRC) runs like shit.

>>
>>344914716

I'd agree if the interactions between the character and the environment was more polished. The gameplay concept and level designs are fucking ace but doing basic tasks like maintaining momentum and even grinding on rails is more difficult than it logically should be. You basically have to work around the game's weird-ass limitations to git any sort of gud at it, and for first-time players the learning curve is actually very high for that reason. But I think similarly of TWEWY - once you git gud at it it's flawless, so I get where you're coming from.

Makes them easy to pick up though, and they have to consider replayability since there would always be guys who pump quarters trying to get a new high score. With JSR that means few levels, but you replay them a lot to get a Jet rank, both in the main missions and side missions.

I feel like I've been utterly disappointed in all these Sega "classics". I know this probably triggers long time sega fans but I feel like they became much better once they modernized and left the console space. Their first party console stuff always seemed sloppy as fuck and just boring. Theyre a great publisher but dont have the power to support a console. JSRF is better than jsr, phantasy star on anything but the dreamcast is great, sonic is better in 3D, yakuza is better than shenmue, valkyria chronicles is better than nights, billy hatcher is better than burning rangers and so on. I was pretty disappointed when finally getting around to playing Sega "classics". I will say that the original shining and shinobi games are fantastic though, and their modern iterations are nowhere near as good.

Yeah it makes sense, but you have autists who are stuck in nostalgia and cant accept anything new so idk. It feels like early sega games have no content and where rushed out so they could throw anything they had at nintendo and sony. So then you get a generation of fanboys who just say "m-muh arcade! its supposed to be 2 hours longer fucking idiot!" and theres just a weird disconnect. Sega post dreamcast was awesome though, i havent bought as many games this gen because theyve been downsizing and it just doesnt feel right without them.

Horrible, rail specific tutorials you cant skip. Wanted system thats completely broken, with police all over your ass and helicopters killing you in 3 hits with homing missiles. RESTART. You misunderstand what arcade-style games are supposed to be about. Yes they're short if you just play it once, but you're supposed to play it multiple times to 100% the game or simply to get the highest score you can. And keep in mind arcades dominated the 90s, to the extent where "arcade-accurate" was the holy grail of console gaming up until the turn of the millennium. As console games, arcade-style games are easy to pick up and put down and play with your friends. You don't need to worry about a 100 hour RPG story.

Thats not really my thing. If a game is fun enough to be replayed it will be replayed. It doesnt need to be gimped on purpose to go for an arcade style approach. A game like nights into dreams is a good example of this. Its fun but theres no content besides replaying the same 6 stages to try to get 100 more points than the last time. The wii sequel has more diverse content spread throughout on top of the traditional stages and style of the game, which i greatly enjoy more.

Maybe it is something you just had to grow up with. I was born in 1992 and my first consoles were a ps1 and n64. I went to arcades a handful of times because we couldnt afford it and it was really unfair how hard they made the games when games are for little kids. You need to drop hundreds of quarters in one game to get good at it and its just not a feasible or fun experience for most people, probably why arcades are on their deathbed today

I'm speaking as someone who never enjoyed arcades. But back in the day a common view was that home consoles were for kiddies and arcades were for the older people. It's why companies that tried to maintain a cool image usually tried to replicate arcade games.
>>
>>344918270
Well, its pretty clear that segas arcade style games didnt work out for them and traditional console gaming with bigger experiences is what won back then. And how arcades are dead too lol

Even with their so called arcade perfect ports, they couldnt bounce back. While the ps1 was getting rpgs and n64 getting collecthons and multiplayer games. Why is that? Maybe people didnt want to drop 70 bucks to play 3 different tracks in daytona, beat it in 30 minutes, and then never touch it again

The problem with the Saturn was that the architecture both severely gimped 3D at a time when 3D was bursting into consoles, and was horrendously difficult to program for resulting in gimped 3rd party support. Had they actually focused on building an "arcade-perfect" machine Sega would not have gone out of the console business in 2001.

Oh wait, again people didnt want to drop 60 bucks on hotd2, beat it in 30 minutes, and then never touch it again. Were not talking about their consoles, were talking about their game design philosophy. It was weakened in the mid 90s and irrelevant in the new century. They adapted wisely after quitting consoles and started putting more content besides lel go get more points than last time in their games

Based entirely on this post, my impression is that your ideal game is long but never challenging, and shallow because you never end up with a need or desire to replay the game. And fine, that's the kind of game you like. But just accept that some people actually like a challenge and like games you can easily replay and get better at.
>>
>>344918739
I know you're young and hip and everything, but growing up with the NES only would have killed you. People used to play games just to play them, and replay them just to replay them. Score was a thing you tried to beat and not just experience something one time and move on.

People today are so caught up in graphics, trophies and "the story experience" that actual games are ignored due to "lack of depth". It's killing the game industry and turning them into movies. You want to watch a movie? Then do it, instead of bitching about something that only takes a few hours to beat and then complaining there isn't more to do.

I like a fair challenge in games which arcade games do not provide. They are intentionally designed to be cheap so you keep throwing quarters in, its a cutthroat business. Once you put enough quarters in, the game is done in a short time. Its a fun ride but not something many would willingly pay full price for and play at home

>>344919374
If you think 24 is young and hip and you legitimately had cognitive functions, at least enough to remember the nes, then youre ancient history and shouldnt be surprised that not everyone is nearing 40 like you are. Getting high scores has never been my thing and the only time ive ever cared about getting good times was sonic games and racing games. Youre really jumping to conclusions by saying i only play movies when i think sony consoles are trash for this exact reason: all they greenlight is movie garbage.

>tldr: price the game at what its worth. Paying $10 on xbox live for after burner, nights, or daytona usa is cool and reflects its price to content ratio well. but dont expect me or the market to pay $60 today for an experience thats done in an hour or two

This is why I hated arcades. In Australia arcade machines were designed to take $1 or $2, with most costing $2 per play.

You'd save up what little money you could for the arcade and it would be gone in 6 minutes. Which is why most people just played machines that awarded tickets, so at least you were walking out with some shitty prize instead of empty handed.

A mixture. Almost all songs are in the game, but the default tracks that play first (and will probably be all you hear before you beat the stage) are the ones used in the Euro version and the Japanese rerelease "De La Jet Set Radio". Only two tracks are missing from the new XBLA/PSN/Steam version due to licensing problems, which is a shame, but it doesn't detract your enjoyment of the game:

I dont have a wii u because nintendo is garbage. From what I have played of mario 3D world, some coop in world 6 or 7, it was one of the most dull and boring games Ive ever played. Nintendo lost their touch after the gamecube. Havent bought a nintendo product in years so dont call me a nintendrone.

Shenmue, pso, skies, and sonic adventure are all examples of them rethinking their strategy and making full console games instead of middling arcade ports and styled games. I dont think of shenmue as much of a game myself but its one hell of an experience, you can feel how much of a next gen game it was at the time, and i love the characters and small details it has.

Dont worry bro, even in the united states, theres arcade games that cost a $1 or $2 to play once. Theres a place called round 1 which is nothing but arcade games and Ive walked through it a few times. It uses its own currency system but the average cost to play something once is around $1 or more. Its a joke

>Denying yourself Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X all because of a predictably bland mario rehash you should have known would be bland from the start

Not a big fan of bayonetta after the first one. Only thing i liked from it were the boss fights. I know its a good game but its not really my thing

Ive seen all i need to see on splatoon. You shoot paint at the ground for 3 minute rounds and do it all over again. It looks and plays like shit

Zero interest for xbx and other open world games, especially ones that play like an mmo

>Mfw I got JSR PC for free from the Sega bundle thing
>>
>tfw the only thing close to a new JSR is an indie game riding the coattails of JSR.
>It even has Naganuma doing the soundtrack

JSR designs are more simple and classic, i preferred them at first.
When actually playing JSRF i warmed up a lot to the use of colours and slightly more risque outfits. I think they're worthy alt-outfits.

Come on is that a serious question?

>Because it's a fuckin
>>
>>344920989
No? Sega aways released your so called full console games. While they had arcade offerings on Mega like SoR, they had longer games like Phantasy Star, Beyond Oasis, Soleil, Shining...
On saturn they had Panzer Dragoon, Dark Savior, Sakura Taisen, Guardian Heroes.

>They're both good games but they're almost entirely different games at the same time. Both do radically different things with the same basic premise,
I agree that both games have different focuses but IMO JSRF>JSR
The main focus of JSRF, speed and fast movement, is really well executed and the majority of the game revolves that. They also vastly improved the controls so it feels much better to play. In the original, sometimes landing on a grind from the air or on a rail perfectly parallel to the ground was risky and hit or miss.

What were they thinking with this boss?
>>
>>344924583
Getting to him was more of a challenge than actually beating him. The problem was you couldn't beat him in one go, you had to spray until empty, then go back down and get more cans before going all the way back up a second time so it was more tedious than it needed to be.

The retard ghosts in the bottom were useless too.

Yeah, exactly. Who thought it was a good design for a final boss? They just needed to put spraycans on the top level.

Literally the wrong game. Fuck off
>>

In concept the final boss fight was good. The entire game is about platforming and rail grinding sections to get to where you need to spray something, almost always with multiple ways to get there so you have your choice of how exactly you want to approach a tag spot. The fight was the same way: platforming and rail grinding sections to get to where you need to tag something, with multiple paths. I think what happened is they realized one trip would be way too short for good players. I think it would've benefited if they took ideas from the JSR final boss and had you on top of a building having to do the platforming to get to multiple spray points just to leave Gouji vulnerable, and then have him finished off with a small number of sprays.
