It's pretty simple. Invest everything on whatever deals fire damage for early game.
Samurai takes a while to pick up on damage, agent is op for getting mana, god hand is op for lots of damage early on, duelist is op for elemental damage and massive damage when you get judgment, rune knight takes a long time to catch up, fortuner is great, mage is amazing, banisher is alright.

Are any of the classes useless? So far Duelist seems to require too much setup and wastes a ton of turns, if I wanted to set up that much I'd just use another God Hand.

Mage's Contract+Mana Bullet will two turn nuke every single non-story dragon until the post-game. Fortuner has a skill that nullifies MP use for a turn, so you can clear whole areas of dragons pretty simply. My main team was Samurai/Fortuner/Mage for most of the game, until the postgame. All random encounters being dragons was initially intimidating until realizing maxed out Earthquake will kill everything in one hit.

Should I be fighting the dragons when I first fight them? I just got to the Atlantis mines, and the poison one can OHKO me before I can even react. If I get lucky, I can shave off maybe 60% of its health, but I'm wondering if they're like Etrian FOEs. Only reason why I ask is because the camera's so shit that I can barely see which way they're facing because of the Bad viewing area, so I'm guessing the developers didn't think they were that big of a threat that you'd need it to be better, and because of >>344924145

They're not like EO FOEs, you can easily take them down as soon as you meet them. The early part of the game is really the only semi-difficult part, you'll be rolling through multiple dragons at once later on. Post game is the only time I ever felt threatened outside story boss fights.

Yeah, I just skipped the two poison dragons and got to the dragon that's the exhaust tutorial, and I'm still getting wrecked. I've fought every single battle I've come across, aside from those two dragons, and the thing can still wipe my party in a single turn. I can guard, but I need someone to use AOE healing items every turn, and they're always guaranteed to die because they're not blocking from the typical two dragon attacks per turn schtick.

God Hand, Duelist, and Agent, all at level 13, and yeah, I've tried to keep up on their skills and armor, at least. They have the best about they can have at that point. I haven't upgraded their HP at all, though, because I didn't expect there to be a meaningful boost until mid-game and beyond. Right now, though, the hammerhead dragon can hurt my God Hand for more than half his max HP when guarding, and they're been a few times when he's been two-hit KO'd at full HP, again, while guarding. Beyond upgrading HP, I don't know what else I can do to mitigate the damage.

Then I'm not sure what's going wrong, If I recall correctly that's about the level I was at, with the same team except a samurai instead of the agent. Poison was annoying but I typically finished the fight before it became and issue and cured it outside of battle.

I've never bothered with front punch although I didn't know non-jab moves could inflict g. Once I max leveled jab I've just gone straight into spinning edge > quartetto and most things are dead by that point. For my other characters my samurai has been a cyclone dance machine and my duelist mostly does whatever she can while things are still alive. For harder enemies pitfall and barbed wire are quite helpful but for standard encounters I just do a summon.
I'm honestly at a loss as to what's happening to make it so difficult.

Samurai is kind of bland to me honestly. I'm using a dual blade one and their skills are basically "big single hit" and "baker's dozen little hits". Their react skill requires them to take damage which prevents you from getting multiple reacts like other classes.
Meanwhile God hands have combos that debuff, Duelists can become trap masters that trigger nukes, and Agents can hack dragons.
