I can count on one hand the jump scares that actually startled me. The game really isn't scary and I'm usually a bitch about horror games. It'll also usually all but flash warning signs that you're in a horror section and you're almost never in danger while you are. After a bit, you'll probably be trying to speed through the horror bits to get back to the shooting.

Except a big part of the game is resource management and survival, you can load up individual shells on the gun, and you can cancel the reload at any time. There's even a trick to reloading it properly. The shotgun is perfect for the setting and isn't irritating at all in the actual game.

This, it's all about handling what you've got wisely. Volt Driver is a one-shot-one-kill weapon but it takes a long time to fully charge, plus it's not an option for stealth.
Uboinik is one of the most balanced weapons in the game because it covers pretty much any situation you're in without going through a painfully long charge or running out of ammo in the middle of a fight.

Don't bother with the LotR mod, they can't change the map. Attila's base game is pretty fun though. My biggest complaint is that army limits are still a thing and annoying issues on the campaign map that have still been present since Rome.
