Gothic 1 and 2 are like Fallout 1 and 2. Gothic 1 is a much tighter experience with a more engaging story and you'll have a blast the whole time through. 2 doesn't have as interesting of a story but there's more than double the amount of content as G1 and it's overall more challenging. First time I played Gothic 2 I played it on my Voodoo 3.
I had constant graphics glitches and it wouldn't run unless I put the draw distance to 10%.
You have to try this shit. Gothic with Silent Hill fog literally 5 meters around you at all times is fucking amazing.

Yeah, NH is really good. It is interesting because smug main characters are not exactly rare if they have a pre-defined personality. But NH is somewhat different in that he is smug as shit, but doesn't really crack any one-liners, and acts more like a thug than anything. You never feel like he must have been innocent when they banished him to the colony. And the voice actor really pulls this off well.

The scrolls, you mean? Yeah, I already have a few that are quite ridiculous. I'm using up the moderately good ones though, since Circle 1-2 spells are utter trash, so fuck wasting any LPs on them. I've got Light and called it a day.
As you can see I'm sitting on quite a few LPs right now, and still unsure about what to do with them. Maybe I should get mana now, but I want to see the LP cost progression for Circles and spells first. Both the first and the second Circles cost 5 LP, but I want to know if it'll increase later. Also the spells I've seen so far varied between 1 and 10 LPs, but if it turns out shit like Wave of Death or Army of Darkness will cost something like 40 LPs I might as well play with scrolls now and save up.

I was planning to restart Gothic 2+NotR ONCE AGAIN because I just can't get this fucking game right, I tried out all 3 major factions by now and was planning to try the militia again. Any tips to do well early game? Some things destroy me in this game. Like fighting goblins and their dumb bullshit sidestep, gods save me if there's more than one, wich is always. One anon said in a past gothic thread, to ignore learning skills like forging, hunting, lockpick etc and get only fighting stats early on, is this true?

Yes.
In NotR its very important to put everything you got into fighting early because the game gives you no points for free.
Shit like lockpicking and hunting are not needed because you can get enough money elsewhere.
You need to know that most human enemies can one-shot you with a single critical hit and that animals in general are a bitch to deal with if you are fighting more than one at the same time.
Personally i always go for the cave orc near Khorines and let him kill the militia guy who offers you protection. But that only after i paid him to kill the mercs at the farm for me.
His sword is decent so get your strength for that and after that put every point into one-hand fighting so you get all those great crits.

Ah well, I actually went and looked it up, so apparently the 6th Circle spells will cost 20 LPs. That's still a lot, and I'll have to be selective, but I can work with that.
Can anyone confirm if advancement through the Circles has a flat cost of 5 LP? Apparently PB changed up mage costs in NoTR compared to what it was in vanilla, and most guides only cover the original where advancement increased like in Gothic 1, but spells had the flat price of 5 LP.

Gothic 1 was my first, and I still minmaxed the everloving shit out of it. It's like an instinct, you don't know what to expect, so you want to err on the side of caution.
That, and anons told me you have to kill everything before moving on to a new chapter because enemies respawn when you do. So I did, and then it turned out only trash mobs respawn. Swamp sharks, shadowbeasts, trolls, undead, even bloodhounds stay dead for the rest of the game.

Fun facts about getting alot of str in NOTR
Reach 29str only using lp to level it up, after that get 5 str at once (its still going to cost only 5lp so u save some lp, works for every skill cost transition from 1:3 to 1:4 etc
You can get stats by praying to shrines of innos, sonating highest amount of gold gives you 1 str or dex
(You have to sleep until next day each time u make a donation, smaller donations give u a bit of mana or hp, i think you can get 10 str in chapter 1 and then 10 more in a later chapter (im not entirely sure if you can do it only twice) also being a paladin doubles the stats you get from praying if i remember correctly)
Save all str boosting items from theklas stews to stone tablets and
Dragonroots
At the beginning of chapter 4 return to khorinis and kill an orcish warlord and take his rin and put it on, so if you had maxed out your str at 100
At a trainer you will now have 80, so you can max out ur str at a trainer with lp again and remove the ring to have 120 str
Learn to brew str potions, if you find all the dragonroots and kings sorrel you can make like 7-9 str potions, now eat everything that gives str and you should have over 200-250 str while wearing str belt amulet and rings

No no, orcs have the same elemental protection for both spells, but ice lance deals considerably more damage and clean orc stacks more quickly.
Seekers are the main mobs on chapter 3 and for some reason, after notr they became immune/almost immune against fire magic.
