Solid game, totally worth its cost.

it has its flaws, but considering it was done by just 1 dude they can be mostly overlooked

its not super hard but if you are shit at rpgs the game will shit on you so you better stay away from it.

probably the best thing we got from the entire "rpg renaissance" or last years
immense build variety, shitton of exploration, surprisingly fun and interesting quests (that goddamn rape dungeon) and solid setting that gradually goes from some Metro ripoff to lovecraftian monsters, secret societies and aliums

>>344874559
Yeah this. Good but not perfect.
Just like Age of Decadence.
Or Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity actually, but those get shit on more for their flaws.
People tend to overlook flaws in games from likable small teams especially with all the kickstarter backlash.

Whatever, in the end we get a lot of great new RPGs so I'm happy. Remember 10 years ago? There was basically just console shit. Thank god that's over.

You should play Fallout 1 and 2 because they are good games.

Nope. It isn't really like FO anyway.
>>
>>344876076
Wasteland 2 was just bad. AoD and UR are indeed flawed, but they're fresh, unapologetic, and do a lot more good than that stagnant turd did.
>>
>>344880856
Nah. It was a fun post apocalyptic RPG adventure with strong influences from Fallout and Wasteland. Intended to be a nostalgic throwback it delivered exactly that.
"Stagnant" isn't bad when we didn't get games like it in ages. For me anyways, but I enjoy piles of derivative japanese Wizardry clones also so what do I know.
Maybe you expected more from it, I don't know I didn't follow the kickstarter but calling a solid game like W2 a "turd" is plain stupid and wrong. Save those extremes for real shit games like the modern Fallouts.
>>
>>344880856

Wasteland 2 wasn't that bad, it was just a massive dissapointment, i honestly consider it a fallout tactics ripoff but with shittier combat (quite bad considering the most redeeming quality of tactics was that it was combat focused, and the best power armor)

Tried going for a full dodge/knife/stealth build, barely made it to mid-game, then they patched it to make melee and stealth even MORE unviable.

>>
>>344883317
iirc it had a different title during alpha but they changed it to underrail to ride on its popularity
>>
>>344883302

too many points in everything else, i had maxed all the usefull crafting skills for my char, max lockpicking and hacking, some traps, all psi skills maxed and i don't remember what else i had, but i had little persuation (i think barely enough for the embassy check to plant the bug)

i didn't think i would actually had to use it at some point, like thats the worst possible place for my build and it just so happens that you need a persuation check.
>>
>>344873189
I loved the game but god fucking damn it that warehouse in corecity is unbalanced to shit, had to use 25 beartraps all over the fucking place.

Also fuck Deep Caverns, that shit is like 1/4 of the game and its mostly backtracking and the final boss is such bullshit if you dont have a combat character.
>>
>>344883651
>max lockpicking
Hey anon, could you do me a favor? If you have an endgame save near Core City, could you tell me what's inside that one house in the Drop Zone? I never made a single character with high lockpicking, and that shit always bothered me.
>>
>>344883987

there are a lot of locked houses in core city, i dont know which one you might be refering to

also, you probably should always max hacking and lockpicking, losing on all the shit you find is kinda a waste considering you dont really need a lot of the other skills

but i don't remember any house on core city having anything special, its mostly just crafting shit or weapons you dont even use like basically every container in the game

there are a few unique weapons on core city but i honestly found them all to be shit like all the uniques, in my two playthroughs i only used the Steir-auch for a while because i didnt bother to craft a better rifle (i used snipers so i had them as backup)

the unique weapons really need a buff, they are mostly shittier than what you can craft on their respective levels, maybe not better in stats but they should atleast have some unique properties to make them niche

I was thinking of this one, although you are right, there are two more on the map where the player house is that I'm mildly curious about. One of that had a fairly high level lock though, around 130 from what I remember.

But these are seriously the only ones that ever made me regret not investing in the skill. The loot I can live without, and lore is always hidden behind hacking, never lockpicking.

>>
>>344885567
The name change happened back in 2011 or 2012, before the game even entered alpha.
>>
>>344885229

if im not mistaken that house has a unique smg (Uzi)

and some random decent shit

i don't remember if it had any lore in it (something about a smuggler or a murderer perhaps i don't really remember)

i would check to be more specific but im at work right now, if the thread is still alive by the time i get home i can post whats in there (assuming i have a save before i looted that place)

but you are probably going to be dissapointed since i probably wont be back for 4 or 5 hours and this thread will probably be dead by then
>>
>>344885914
It's okay, anon. Thanks anyway, and I appreciate the info.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't even care all that much if Lora didn't give you such a detailed description of the place where they met the guy who sold them the cube, like you were supposed to find it. I doubt that place is even in the game, but every locked door makes me paranoid as fuck.
>>
one of the best games i've played in quite some time
>>
>>344886493

even while maxing lockpicking you can't open all the doors you find, at least not at the time you find them

for example there is several doors at the junkyard that require coming back a lot later to open (only to find trash in them)

i still came back because leaving them feels like i might be ignoring something important even if logic tells me thats only going to be trash
>>
I really love how the game plays around with your expectations at times.
Like how in Core City it first seems like Praetorian is the good guy option, CoreTech is somewhat shady but alright, and JKK is the scummy asshole option. But then only if you do all three factions does it become apparent that really none of them did anything truly wrong, but because of a minor and unfortunate accident Praetorian can drag the whole city down the path of destruction, CoreTech are technically the "bad guys" but they had good intentions and were not aware of the risks, and JKK are the heroes who understand what is happening and are trying whatever they can to save the day.

I don't think you can even open every door there. For example in the alley there are two doors that are locked the same way the game usually handles quest-areas. But there isn't any quest leading there, and likely they don't even lead anywhere.

Makes you wonder why Styg even put them there.

One of the few things im dissapointed about was the special bullets,

the toxic rounds where a caliber fit for snipers rather than assault rifles and since it was a fixed damage they where pretty shit (the aoe rarely ever hits anyone)

The acid rounds have the same problem only useful in fast firing weapons since its fixed damage

The napalm rounds where the only useful ones since they set people on fire and caused fear besides the extra damage

the electric rounds might have been good but they are shit caliber and only usable on handguns and smgs that kinda killed them for me
>>
>>344890823
It was fucking GOAT. Adventure games don't do puzzles this well. I can't remember the last time I had to pull out a pen and a paper to slove a puzzle.

Wish the game had more like it, except maybe with less focus on the collecting part. Between this and the Oculus quests Styg and co really showed fantastic content design skills.
>>
>>344891152
Yeah, nah, fuck off. Completely out of left field, required way too much running around and borderline essential to make the final boss easier for certain builds/loadouts. That's just a shitty puzzle.

Right at the end of the worst part of the game, too. Hollow Earth is complete dogshit, even after the nerfs and the fix to stop it crashing every 2 loading screens. Killed any desire I had to try and finish the game as well as any desire to make a new character knowing what bullshit was waiting at the end.
>>
Stealth, snipe someone
resists 90% of the damage
still dies

seriously sniping is just silly
>>
>>344891687
It's an optional puzzle that makes the final boss significantly easier, of course it's going to take some effort. But the effort is solving it, because collecting the containers requires very little extra exploration in addition to what you had to do already. This is hardly unreasonable.

I have finished DC with many builds many times, both optimally and with literally everything trying to kill me, well-prepared and without any resources. The whole thing can be done in less than 2 hours if you know what you are doing.
