THE CORRECT ANSWER, and I'm surprised I haven't read this yet (I could have missed though(), is by approaching this with Newtonian physics that the test is INCONCLUSIVE because Portals break the fundamental rule that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. When an object goes into or out a portal, it is either creating or destroying potential energy, which means we cannot approach this by conservation of energy. We also do not have a finite way of understanding if the test will yield as an elastic, inelastic, or a third type of collision, so conservation of momentum is also out.

My 2 cents: I think what some people here are missing is the concept of relativity. If the box was the only thing in the universe then it could have no momentum. The concept of momentum remains meaningless until we introduce another element into our hypothetical universe and describe the distance between the two objects to be changing. In this binary situation both objects would possess the same momentum. The rate at which this relative distance between objects changes over time is what we think of as movement. If we then add all the other matter that exists in our universe to this example the concept doesn't change, it just becomes more obscured by all the complexity. I run at a wall. Is it me that moves and the wall that remains still? Seems obvious maybe but less so when you consider that the "stationary" wall is actually travelling at great speed around the earth. It's wobbling on its axis orbiting our sun which in turn orbits our galaxy, which travels at immeasurable speed through the universe. The simple answer here is that relativity is everything when evaluating movement.
In the experiment the box exits the portal at a speed relative to the rate at which it is being consumed. It approaches the portal from one side at a set speed and in the absence of anything obstructing it, it departs from the other side at the same speed. Remember in this experiment the portal is like a window or an open space.
What's really interesting about this is that one "side" of this portal is moving relative to the cube but the other side is stationary relative the cube (which presumably exists in the same universe). Does this imply a further distortion of space beyond a static portal? A stretching of the fabric of space? And what happens if you suddenly halt the platform as it has halfway engulfed the cube??

You have Portal A, it moves, then in relation the universe moves in a way from the portals position, now you have portal B moving differently, from this portal's perspective the universe moves difeerently to A, they are in the exact same universe tough!
Portals break the law of relativity of velocity and as such also momentum and forces.

The portals in game function on being a selectively permeable barrier that does not alter kinetic energy about the object. It only acts as a border between different environment. It altering kinetic energy would undermine the basic rules of the game. Flip the examples. If the platform moved through the portal then by your logic kinetic energy would have to transfer to the stationary portal which would put downwars force on the moving platform and squish the person going through the portal. It's nonsensical for the entire premise of portals.
