The only worthwhile things to get with real money are the inventory upgrades because fuck and the lure modules which are mostly fun to put down to attract other people. Lucky Eggs just speed up XP gains, incense is worthless, you never need to buy pokeballs unless you live in bumfuck nowhere, you always have one infinite egg incubator.
None of these things are required to do good in the game and get the strongest pokemon and beat gyms. Likewise, all location spoofing does (it was an argument about cheating v piracy) is give you the same advantage as someone who lives in an area full of pokemon and pokestops, and pokestops don't drop items that are cash shop exclusive.
So basically you don't need to buy anything and even if you were a whale it wouldn't help you catch 'em all.
