For me, Castlevania III/Akumajou Densetsu. X68000 and the original are up there. I love most of the Classicvanias, though.

My favorite classicvania is Super castlevania 4. Metroidvanias are all on the same line of awesome for me except for Harmony of dissonance, wich is just boring as all fuck.I also really enjoyed the lords of shadow games

Presumably not enough people know the implications of the proper terms. Megiddo and YHVH probably aren't in common enough use in English-speaking communities for anyone to notice...otherwise SMT IV Final probably wouldn't be possible to localise effectively.
I've never played any handheld castlevania because I always thought they were inferior to SoTN.

Don't compare them to SoTN. Each game in a series should be able to stand up on its own merit.
Most of the handhelds manage to do so.
Personally, I say go for Aria and Portrait.

Kind of. I think Aria of Sorrow is better myself, but Symphony of the Night remains one of the best of its kind. If you liked SotN you'll likely enjoy the GBA and DS games either way. The best handheld Castlevania is actuallyBelmont's Revenge.
