Don't feel too bad. The way I did the Soul of Chaos dungeons: I did the first two normally then I completed the 3rd without fighting Shinryu or Omega. Then beat the 4th one then came back to the 3rd one to fight the super bosses. So if you do that you should be set

They are the GBA games with more fixes, a better translation, non butchered color palette and sound / music, with some quality of life stuff thrown in, like the relics being a part of the equipment screen instead of having a separated relic screen and the esper screen is not hidden in a screen + you can swtich espers between characters easily, even when the one with the esper is not in the party.

FF1 has always been one of my favorite FF game because of how weird it really is. You can tell they just wanted to throw everything at the wall and hope something stick. Sadly the NES is too fucking buggy to replay unlike something like Dragon Quest 3 which is still pretty damn great even nowadays.

The problem is they over did it with the spells honestly. They shouldn't have try making so many spells and instead focus on a small but workable spells. FF2 is even more insane in spells and because of how "leveling" works you are best to never touch 90% of them.

At least you could just cancel actions to level up quickly in the original. When I got this I&II compilation for GBA when I was younger, I almost immediately got stuck in FF2 and spent some hours grinding my stats. Ninjas are shocking bad in FF1. In the NES their only really clam to fame is the ability to wear nearly everything but their strength was so weak there was no point. Monks however were godly but needed to level up a good bit. Funny because of a coding error their class change is actually worse than their base class. FF1 might be one the the buggest JRPG game ever that is still very much playable.
