That was fucking retarded. Nova never fucking meowed, he just talks.

As characters?
Fagolor >>> the ant > Stopguy > prototype of off-brand nova that steals cues from 02.
>>
I am impressed with how good Triple Deluxe and Robobot were. I like them more than KSSU.

>>344841324
>Fagolor good at anything
>>
>>344841275
It happened a lot more than you noticed, and I'm including RtDL and TD. Even fucking King Dedede does it in Fighters Deluxe. Fucking King Dedede. No smug victory sign before the fight even starts or anything, just roaring like a mindless beast. Roaring bosses in 2D games are cancer.
>>
>>344839573
This was pretty spooky the first time I went through the True Arena. I mean, he could have shot those lasers from his mouth or something, but HAL decided to go all spooky with this for some reason.
>>
>>344841786
Well to be fair he was a fucking beast on Insane in Fighters Deluxe. Only time Dedede has ever been a hard boss.
>>
>>344841942
This is the company that just cannot avoid a chance to throw bleeding eyeball edge crap in their games, much less adding corny fake tragedies to the bosses for the last three games.

They will go all spooky every chance they can get. It's the only thing people notice about Kirby any more.
>>
>>344841942
He does shoot the laser from his mouth in his normal boss battle

Yeah, that is exactly why it surprises me now he shoots them from his eyes; they could have kept it the same, but they went the extra mile. That's why I adore HAL.

>>344842075
I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. I guess I wasn't expecting it because they sort of skipped the "spoopy final boss" thingy in Triple Deluxe and Returns to Dreamland (neither Sectonia nor Magolor had any particular creepy trait). Well, that's unless you count Dark Meta Knight briefly splashing blood in Triple Deluxe.

Maybe its just me but that was spooks enough by Kirby standards, specially the juxtaposition of the fake =D face and the real eye coming in and out to look menacingly. Magolor soul is also overall pretty metal with the horns and spikes
>>
>>344842075

So what defines a real tragedy? There's nothing wrong with giving the antagonists a motivation outside of the barebones "Wants to rule Dreamland/Pop Star!"

This, they may get overhyped but they're pretty great additions and add some depth to bosses for those who care to pay attention

You don't have to sympathize to still appreciate them, they're not meant to absolve villains of any fault, they just go to show that conflicts are compelx, and there's more to evil doers than just being evil. Ultimately they are villains, but they weren't born that way, instead through their own character faults amplified by mcguffins they reached that point of no return, one might even see themselves getting there.

For a series that's dismissed as childish I think it presents a very mature outlook on portraying villains, and doesn't conform itself to having generic one-dimensional villains. To dismiss it as "edgy" and "corny fake tragedies" is missing the point and honestly how you'd expect a child to look at it.

They're not a pinnacle of game writing by any means, but they're still worthy of appreciation and aren't even meant for everyone. Kids playing these games without reading up on shit will just look at these guys as you would otherwise, just a bad guy. The games in no way beat these "fake tragedies" in your head, if you know about them its likely because you cared to find them and appreciate them, so its no surprise its well received.

You could play Robobot beginning to end, all modes and not care for the story, skip all the cutscenes, don't read up on anything and still have a grand ol time. Meanwhile a lot of modern games are completely based around their "emotional" stories and trying to force them in any chance they get, to the point that the game is almost tacked on.
>>
>>344841965
Nah, he was tougher in Kirby's Dream Land extra mode and even Kirby's Adventure.
>>
>>344842995
So it's a rehashing of 0/02, appearance
>>
>>344844374
To be honest, I feel the opposite. The corny tragedies are meant to appeal to children.

All the villains are given these tacked on just-so stories to suggest that nobody is really evil, just made so by horrendous tragedies. It's especially egregious in Robobot where the Susie story has absolutely zero bearing on the plot and in fact makes Haltmann and Susie's actions and relationship make LESS sense than it did before.

To give evil a human side is one thing, but to ensure every single instance of evil is justifiable by some magic cuhrazy mcguffin is the realm of Souls-esque faggotry.

>>344843148
Better question: You're taking a pink hero on a 5+ hour long adventure, battling evil trees and monsters. What motivation makes that worth doing other than conquest?
>>
>>344846279
If they were meant to be for children, they wouldn't be put on pause menus that you have to read all of to get the full story, and kids won't remember that

Magic mcguffins is a key thing in Kirby games since Adventure with the Star Rod

As for the motivation for playing the games, they're fun and charming. Kirby's motivation is always "stop the bad thing" but he's Kirby and doesn't need much depth because giving Kirby a big story like the antagonists would be pretty dumb
>>
>>344846160
not really no
The visual of the face is clearly inspired but even the execution is totally different, the rest of the visual design is not even comparable
>>
>>344846658
So it's just 02 again in another light with some paint thrown on, yeah?
>>
Haltmann did nothing wrong.

He modernized Dream Land. Gave them cars, towns, even a factory that makes infinite ice cream.

He captured the terrorist Meta Knight and reforrmed him.

He cloned Dream Land's greatest hero so they could experience 4x the magnificence of King Dedede.

And Kirby.

Ruined.

EVERYTHING.

Ignoring the actual content of the stories the way they're delivered is great, giving the player the choice to put it together themselves, if it made sense immediately there would be no point, no sense of discovery or new story to piece together. TD for example never states the role the mirror played, but its presence hinted at something people figured out on their own before the answer was given on miiverse, and even then the exact details are not fully explained yet.

It fits great with the idea Kirby's always been based around, games anyone can get into but with enough depth for those who want to to appreciate it. This is extending it to the story past the initial presentation of simple at first, more complex at the end. Treating the full story and context as an actual collectible you have to piece together yourself, much like logs in the metroid primes and yes, souls games.

The games also don't deny you of any of the old story aspects, they're still there and you can willfully ignore the extras and not bother to decipher anything. You haven't lost anything from these extra details, and if the original story makes more sense to you just stick with it.
>>
>>344847307
How do the cities and factories and stuff they built tie into the story? Why modernize and roboticize everything if they're only feeding star dream organic life to power him? What's the point in building a society unrelated to what you're doing if you're just going to destroy that planet soon after?
>>
>>344847384
Why did they make his eye like a weird orange light? It's supposed to be his actual fucking eye, just under a visor.
>>
>>344847460
Conquest and more organic life, Haltmann's lost his sanity by this point
>>

The company is obsessed with the idea of prosperity and efficiency. Their goal is explicitly to plunder the resources of the planet and that involves turning it into the perfect machine to do so, including taking over the populous, which comes in hand with giving them modern life necessities to keep them happy while they help destroy themselves.

Haltmann was narrating all of those info tibits you see when you pause the screen. He got more characterization in his game than most other characters do in several. It only becomes clear near the end of the True Arena's description for Nova.

I'm leaving the thread but I feel like handing out another (you)

This is literally missing out on the super basic and simple initial premise, its the most basic caricature on modern culture and industrialization possible. Its not some secret lore to figure out, its shit even kids get, we've all been fed some hippie shit at some point.

Like I get you really want to be contrarian but this is stretching it, its not some big loophole and trying to pretend like you're pointing one out only makes you look retarded.

When you find oil you have to build infrastructure around it, roads to get there, towns for workers to live and bring in locals to work. You can't just zap the resources away without touching anything, they already simplified it by having the colonization and industrialization be nearly instantaneous.

Why make cities and stuff instead of just wells? Why bother when they have giant drills that can reach the planet's core?
>>
>>344851248
>Why make cities and stuff instead of just wells?
You need somewhere for the workers to live
>Why bother when they have giant drills that can reach the planet's core?
Giant drills are too imprecise
>>
>>344852003
The workers already lived there. They didn't need a bunch of towns and cities, it's a waste of resources. Plus all of the workers they already had are robots. They don't need clubs, casinos, cafes, etc.

What is the point of the giant drills then? They can land on the planet perfectly fine without them. Is there ever any indication that anything other than the drills and the qccess ark itself aren't the only thing sucking the life out of the plane? Is there even any indication it's doing that?
>>
>>344847460
>>344852270
I don't think Star Dream wanted to wipe out life from the get-go. He was willing to appease them and avoid conflict by building cities and employing them as workers, but then Kirby crashed the party anyway so he figured life was too chaotic to control and needed to be wiped out.
>>
>>344852621
Ah alright, that sound about right, they originally intended to live there permenantly. I thought they intended to use the planet up and then throw it away from the start. Thanks anon.

Well, to me, the entire final boss sequence was more shock value than actual spook. It sort out played out like this for me:

>Oh shit the rogue AI took over this jew who wanted to take over planets!
>Interesting, now he took over the entire ship.
>Wait a second
>Why does it look like a Nova-
>>this guy either took over a Nova and was going to force it to grant him wishes, or built his own Nova inside his ship to wish to take over the universe or something
>Well I guess it makes sense in the current context. Really interesting way to use a minor character to tell a whole lot by just its presence!

Then the True Arena descriptions hit you like a truck about that theory, but cmon it was pretty safe to assume in the first place given Kirby bosses

Oh yeah then the > OH RIGHT HIS HEAD WAS A SCREW HOLY SHIT GIGA DRILL BREAKER

Because this is Meta Knight's game

Besides the fact its the most overplayed song 'outside' the game, they wanted to remix it with the Revenge of Metaknight ending since the boss is a shoutout to Main Cannon No.2, and I guess Dedede DID use a variation of the theme once too, so it went hand in hand.
