because in any Street Fighter game theres 8 to 40 fighters to choose from of various abilities and fighting style, making the guy who is just "Japanese fireball uppercut guy" really vanilla in comparison.
In Smash Bros, being a regular Japanese firball uppercut guy makes him a real standout because nobody plays like him at all.
It's possible you like pressing one button for various lengths of time better than three to six buttons in certain intervals
