Can someone explain what happens with "cock tease" pokemon that show up in the "nearest" section. Even evening I see a three footprint Venusaur that I cannot get closer to, no matter what direction I try... tonight I had a phantom Magmar that was the same (always three footprints). Is it a bug or what's going on. I'm level 10 BTW, catching either of these would be a very big deal for me (they're rare in my area).

I actually don't think so. Max CP is tied to your player level. When you catch a Pokemon the crescent bar around it is the CP % for your current level. Lower CP mons that I catch has a less filled bar and higher CP mons I catch have a more full bar. When you level up the bar cap increases.

Might be common sense but best way to level up is to get to level 9 (for lucky egg) and have 2 10km eggs almost hatched with an incense, lure module and a shit load of duplicates.
Go to a pokestop where most people don't go, use your lucky egg then walk for a bit to evolve 10km eggs for 6k exp. Then transfer shit pokemon and evolve for even more then finally use incense and lure module to catch pokemon for 30 mins with boosted exp.

You'll want to increase your item capacity. Nothing sucks dick more than hitting inventory max. Possibly your max Pokemon too although tbqhwy family I don't keep a lot of duplicates. Other than that, lures and eggs. Pokeballs for money is a waste unless you're out in the fucking sticks with no Pokestops. Get used to it, because that will happen no matter how strong your gym is if enough people are playing.
But, I do think it levels off after a while. you need as much xp to get from 15-20 as you do to get from 1-15, and you have to double it again from there to get through the early 20s. If you get through the early stuff you should be able to help your team.

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing. I got a 800 vaporeon to evolve from a 280ish eevee when I was level 11 I think, my girlfriend is level 14 now and her highest pokemon is on the 500s.
I'm 18 now and that lapras could be higher but I finally ran out of candies to upgrade it.

I've gone for walks alone at night since I was an early teen (20 now) and I've never even been approached by anyone bad.
The worst thing about this game is how in later levels basic level pokemon are so hard to catch they you will run out of pokeballs, therefor showing why this is a P2W game.

Level yourself up. Go to an area loaded with stops, pop a lucky egg and an incense/mod and just go to town. Chances are someone else will drop a mod too. You'll eventually get to where everything you catch/hatch/evolve is pushing 1000 yourself.
Sadly I'm starting to think if you really want to make it with this game spending some money on lucky eggs is a necessary evil.
