RE4 for Action
I like 4 the most. Even through 6 shat on the story I loved Jakes campaign and mercenaries so I think 6 probably has the best gameplay.
But yeah aside from those points 6 sucks. 4 on the other hand is an actual survival horror game so it's pretty good in that aspect, and it still has a good story so it's pretty good.
I've played 2 and 3 and really liked the portrayal of nemesis as well as the endgame of 3, but I'm a total faggot so I could never get used to the controls, which is why I don't consider 6 a shit game.
So 4 is probably the best, but gameplay-wise I guess I enjoyed 6 the most.

REmake is the best. 4, 5, 6 are only good for the Mercenaries part.

RE4 got me into the series, so it has a close place in my heart. I've probably beaten it 20 or so times; it's just a really well-made action game.
My current favorites are probably RE1: Director's Cut (the version without the fart music) and RE2. RE1 is really fun to play considering how much of the game is not strictly linear, whereas RE2 is the epitome of "bigger and better" when it comes to sequels.
I've never beaten REmake and I don't know if the PC release is worth it now that my Wii is boxed up somewhere.

but you get these chapters inbetween where you play other characters and it turns into shitty action with tons of ammo and shit characters.
but everytime you play Jill on the ship it's great, fun weapons and jill in skin tight diving suit.

Revelations 2 is a better main game, really fun movement mechanics, good shooting, good story.
the writing can be a little off though, tons of swearing.
Raid mode can be skipped in Rev 1 despite being fun but you're better off playing Revelations 2 raid mode.

Revelations is okay, but it too many action sequences. Now, that wouldn't be that big that if problem, but the enemy variety is lacking and some of the locations are pretty boring. The horror sections are pretty spooky though. Raid Mode is also pretty fun. The story is pretty bonkers and takes itself a little too seriously. The final boss in my opinion is one of the best in the series.
Revelations 2 is great imo. It focused more on horror, survival and teamwork. It all works well. You know what the best part of this game is? (To me at least) The story and characters. It's ridiculous and the game doesn't take itself seriously at all.

I picked up the remaster for 5 and have already sunk 60+ hours into it just playing the mercenaries united. I've heard 6 is the absolute worst in the entire series, but I'll get it if the mercs are as good / better than RE5's mercenaries...

I think there is a difference between not liking 6 and considering it the worst Resi game.
6 is amazing and in the scope of every game ever made it is up near the top 5%, but on a list of all mainline RE games, it comes last. It doesn't mean I hate it.

I then picked up and finished 6 which was pretty fucking enjoyable if I didn't think too much on the plot so right now I find myself look for a copy of RE 5. REmake is the best playing out of the fixed camera style RE games, has the best level design and most interesting mechanics even if the Crimson Heads kinda go underused once you get the shotgun.
4 is an unbelievably good TPS and is the only time the series is fully aware that it's schlock, and it fucking revels in it.
1 creeps me out more than REmake honestly, the barely furnished rooms and florescent lighting give it a surreal atmosphere. The terrible VA spouting poorly-translated lines that sometimes border on nonsense almost makes it alien.
I don't like 2 as much as 1, but it has things like the ZAPPING SYSTEM which makes it at least feel like its own thing.
5 is a worse version of 4 with co-op, but it's still 4 with co-op. It's pretty frustrating in single player though since Sheva thinks she's so helpful.
3 feels like a retread of 2 but worse in pretty much every way besides its implementation of Mr. X. I'd still rather play it over most other games in this series though.

After playing Real Survivor in REmake, I learned how to travel around while also making the least amount trips to the item chest. Dropping items would be so bad if not for the fact you can only drop a certain amount of times in one room and it doesn't help that some items take up two slots in your inventory

I try to get every achievement in every RE game.
The only time I ever have a problem with Hunters are when they are first introduced because the second the cut-scene ends, they can pounce you and stun lock you before you can do anything. Monkey are annoying and a waste of time, and you can run past the leechmen easily.

The 3rd person camera was a natural progression. The series was always getting more action oriented with each release and action doesn't really mesh together well with the fixed camera positions.

I can't decide between REmake and RE3. RE2 is godlike too.
But honestly, RE4 is overrated. People praise this game and don't mention how it has most of the things that made RE5 and 6 shit, don't mention the shitty aspects of the game, the dumb decisions the devs made in many stages of the game.
