>>
>>344765020
They're not going to clock much differently from any other GCN card, they all have the same pipeline length. Most cherry dies hit around 1400mhz, 1500mhz stable would be incredibly rare.
Its entirely dependent upon how high of a binned chip you get.
From what it looks like Apple purchased all of the 90%+ dies.

>>344766059
The aberrant power draw issues had nothing to do with the power connector on the PCB. The die itself controls how it draws power, it was entirely a software bug. AMD put more new PowerTune IP in 4th gen GCN than ever before, and their new OC software needs some kinks worked out. The driver fix currently out now will eventually be rolled in when they stop ASIC quality rating from influencing Wattman's behavior.
It never affected all cards to begin with.

Backplates without vents seem odd to me, on one point the heat could just go upwards and near your cpu, on the other it seems like its going to be strangled.

Sapphire are good stuff though and in two months I may get one if the 1060 is no cop and the 1070's aren't in stock.

Amd cards get closer in value to Nvidia counterparts over time even if they don't have the immediate wow factor.

Even better, there is no consistency in the testing parameters. Certain titles have special AA enabled while others don't. The benches are tailored to the 1060's strong suit, and not representative of real world performance delta between both cards.

The 1060 might be 10fps faster than the RX 480 when using 4X SSAA that favors Nvidia's arch, but that disparity evaporates under scrutiny.

The main reason you shouldn't get a console is nothing to do with PCMR, but the fact there's been absolutely fuck all offering on them that looks value for money, let alone worth getting anything for.

Likewise Forza is nothing special compared to Dirt/Trackmania etc, and TR is an absolute joke compared to the Legends games.

Tbhfam only benchmarks worth shit is highest settings for 60FPS per resolution, which means in this case would be Ultra sans AA, PhysX (for a proper comparison), tessellation turned down as necessary etc.

Getting no stutters and 60FPS is way more important than switching EVERY fucking thing on even if it actively makes the game experience worse e.g. fucking Motion Blur.

>>
>>344769684
Thats an absurdly stupid rumor started by the street shitting clickbait artists from WCCFtech. Theres no validity to it.

The Polaris 10 die was designed to be as cheap to produce as possible, it sacrificed raw performance to accomplish that, and made up for it by increasing clocks and power draw. A 300w~ dual die card with Polaris 10 wouldn't sell.
>>
>>344769754

everything in the future will run in accordance to AMD's will.

There was even some claim that the documentation was mostly the same, with some screenshots of alleged documentation of both, and alleged similarities. Now that the final documentation is out, it is clear that the two are not all that similar at the API level. DX12 is still using a lightweight COM approach, where Mantle is a flat procedural approach. But most importantly, DX12 has some fundamental differences with Mantle. Such as the distinction between bundles and command lists. Mantle only has ‘command buffers’. Again, it looks like Mantle is just a simplified version, rather than Microsoft cloning Mantle.

DX12 is a new API so they'd have to work with a new API regardless.

Also, there are more people with windows 7, 8, and xp combined than there are with windows 10. DX 12 only works on windows 10. If the dev works with DX 12, they're losing out on half of all windows installations.

The keyword being previous here. They blew the LAST high end gen the fuck out... pretty sure that always happens with the release of new stronger cards. It's a shitfest because they advertised it like it would have a place in this gen's high end when it doesn't. It literally does not compete with the 1070 and 1080, not because it's amd vs nvidia or some trivial bullshit like that... because it's as strong as those two cards. The 480 is a budget card that does GREAT budget work. That's it.

M$ didn't have to pay anyone to use DX12. The documentation and support on VK is fucking trash and their git is damn near unreadable like they got some Chinese sweatshop to do it. This means that a standard DisplayPort cable will work with the very first DisplayPort systems and displays introduced around five years ago, and they will continue to work with the newest and future systems and displays that support multi-stream and display resolutions up to 4K (Ultra HD) at 60Hz.
All cables support everything, but that's besides the point because you still need a monitor with A-sync enabled in the DP1.2a port.

>>344779206

No, since Nvidia already one of biggest company behind Vulkan, just like Intel, Google, ARM and Qualcomm.
I'm just that because DX12 and Vulkan was made using the same principle of AMD past API.
The only difference is that DX12 is locked to WIndows 10 and Vulkan is not, you can use it on all OSes from mobile, consoles or even PC and still works to hardware from five years ago.
>>
>>344779671
>Then replace cable with port.
Fine, going back to your first post:
>Gsync "pay us 100$ to do something your monitor port can already do".
That's still wrong. Your monitor can't already do a-sync, and it never will if the manufacturer didn't enable the hardware to allow for it.
>>
Do nvidiots even know any card they buy will lose a good part of their launch performance due to nvidia drivers fucking with them (probably intentionally) after a year or two? And theyre still screeching about amd driver memes. Amd has had better drivers for a while now.
>>
>>344763778
So AMD went DVI-D only too? WTF!?
>>
>>344779671
>So that's why a gsync monitor is 100 dollars more expensive than the same monitor but with Freesync instead?
Yes. Because nvidia's implementation is proprietary, there is only one manufacturer making and selling the scalers. Freesync, however, is based on an open standard (adaptive sync), and therefore has multiple manufacturers for the required scalers and lower prices.

So for freesync, you need
1. DP port that supports adaptive sync
2. Scaler in the monitor that supports freesync

Making a worldwide standardize barebone API is not cheap and take years to develop also multiple hardware companies to back you up so they will used your API.
But Nvidia still can compete with AMD using their Gameworks.

Nvidia can compete with AMD using their hardware. AMD could barely match a 2 year old graphics card that used a process node that was twice as big. AMD didn't price RX 480 at $200 out of the kindness of their hearts. They were forced to price it that low because of their abysmal market share.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have compared results from one site to another, but you did not make sure the testing methodologies were the same! Whoops! You should always remember to make sure that the hardware configurations, graphical settings and testing locations between the two benchmarks match before drawing comparisons between them! The results between two benchmarks using different graphical settings can cause very large difference. You should always avoid trying to compare the results of different benchmarks when you're not sure about the testing methodologies!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to game benchmarking!

>>

Sort of

They mostly drop driver support in general only focusing on the new series. So new drivers can fuck older cards up

In addition they mainly use gameworks to fuck up older cards which is integrated in the game itself. Amd has taken counter measures which is why some of their older cards like the 200 series shits on the 700 series now.

However the 700 series users are defenseless and are at the mercy of nvidia. They asked for a simple tessellation slider and were outright ignored.

Not seeing the problem here.

4 GB gets around 30 fps in pcgh benchmark. Aftermarket 970 gets around 44 fps.

Guru3d bench shows reference 970 getting same performance as rx 480. Anandtech does this too. TPU is one of the few sites showing a difference for some reason.
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_r9_rx_480_8gb_review,10.html

If we take these rx 480 = reference 970 back to the pcgh benchmark, rx 480 would land a few fps lower than 44 fps.

Now we have a 960 at ~30 fps, and rx 480 at slightly lower than 44 fps, which corresponds with the nvidia benchmark perfectly.

So you comparing an old benchmark where the rx 480 still doesn't exist with a new benchmark where 480 exist and gain actual 60fps?
And then you used that old non-exist rx 480 chart, compare it with the new Nvidia 1060.

Using a fucking 4 months old chart to where their competitor card doesn't exist.
That's fucking brilliant Idea, Nvidia marketing team are fucking genius.

its Genius, I tell you.
I meant, why bother compare the current result where rx 480 driver also came out.
Lets spice it more with a chart where our competitor card doesn't exist.

Indeed, it's unfortunate. Most reviews don't use a 4 GB 960 after all, so we need to use that one.

Can you show that 970 has gotten significant performance increases in the game while 960 hasn't? The performance delta is the only important part here really.

You don't get it, do you? All you can say is 4 months ago, 4 months ago, when it's not even that relevant. I'm not sure how I can say this shit more simply.

Let's try.

First off, completely ignore the 2 GB 960. Imagine it doesn't exist.

Several benchmarks put RX 480 and 970 at the same performance level. The actual frame rate here is not particularly relevant. It could be 70, 60, whatever. This is from very recent benchmarks.

Now, let's go to the benchmark with our 4 GB 960, and make the assumption that RX 480 performance equals the 970 performance here as well. Now, it doesn't matter if 970 has gained performance within these 4 months, as long as the performance increase hasn't been limited to 970 only. Why not?

Let's first consider a scenario with no performance increase. 4 GB 960 is at 30 FPS, 970 is at 44 FPS. We can insert our RX 480 at 44 FPS as well, based on our observations previously. These numbers are in line with the nvidia numbers as is. No problems so far.

Then a scenario where there has been a performance increase. Let's make it as big as 50%. 4 GB 960 rises to 45 fps, 970 rises to 66 FPS, and we can still put RX 480 at 970's numbers, because we've seen that they equal them at the moment. So we have 960 at 45 fps, RX 480 at 66 fps. These numbers differ from the nvidia numbers, but is this a problem? No, because at this point we can assume that the smaller numbers in the nvidia benchmarks are due to more demanding settings. After removing 33% from both results due to more demanding settings that hypothetically affect both cards similarly, we are back at our 30 fps and 44 fps that match with nvidia numbers.

The performance increases are utterly irrelevant as long as they affect 970 and 960 equally, and there is no reason to believe that they don't.

If you want to complain, pick out the exact point that you think is wrong, and properly explain yourself, because I'm not going to explain this shit to you 10 times.
