The monitor might cost you a bit depending on how fancy you want to get. You can get a crummy sub 100 monitor refurbished from new egg. If you don't have a mouse or keyboard already you can get one for dirt cheap. That is a non issue. Why even bring it up its like 10-15 bucks.

The key thing in the laptop VS desktop thing is you can upgrade bits and pieces with the desktop. Also with the budget described above you start with a pretty good 1080p almost 60fps option. I know this is anecdotal but I've been using the guts of the same PC for the span of 4 years now only having really spent about 1000 total (that includes the base price of it and a monitor) and I'm still playing new games on high to medium at 45 fps or higher.

This is pretty well known but worthwhile to re-post now and then for people who don't know.
Note that this requires cancelling your account first, it will not work with an active membership. Another point, use up other existing options for free or discounted membership first, no point in burning your free 3 month Audible membership for Prim users when there are still currently active options for .99/mo, 1.95/mo, etc. When there's a "dry spell" go ahead and cancel your Audible account and fire up your Prime 3-month "trial".
Next note, YMMV, but I have activated this on a secondary account using a 30-day Prime trial once in the past. My Audible 3-month stayed even after cancelling the Prime trial at the end of 30 days. I haven't duplicated this with another account thus the YMMV.
Last, and another YMMV, for some reason I was recently able to sign up for the Prime 3-month Audible trial for a second time on an account I did the trial with last year. When selecting the link to "purchase" the 3-month trial I was denied, however the next time I logged in to my previously cancelled Audible account the Gold Membership was active and I had a credit waiting for me. You will know if it is the free Prime trial because it will list it as such in your membership information. Unfortunately I have no additional information as to why I was able to do this again on the same account, sorry.
