There are two different Yoshi voices

The record scratch sounds in World to I think Mario Party 3, and the voice provided by Totaka starting at Yoshi's Story, whose voice clips were used almost exclusively until Totaka recorded new clips for Galaxy 2.

I'm not worried yet. Mario series has mixed it up in the past, and 3D World was solid.
Now, if they keep using the same style, I'll be sad. Contained stages and courses were nice, but I do prefer open-area style of Sunshine and 64.
Though one thing I would have liked to see in 3D World is SMW styled maps, with lots of secrets and alternate paths, but 3D World barely had any.

Because there were plenty of popular MP games before like Pong and the Atari sports games. SF1 was completely ignored, it was SF2 that really blew up the fighting game genre to blockbuster levels, but there were plenty of fighters that were popular and way bigger than SF1 before SF2 came out.

This. Making linear levels actually allowed them to work on very refined devel design. Not those sandbox clusterfucks of 64 and Sunshine. Honestly, most of Nintendo's franchise quality is being destroyed: Pokèmon when they decided to go full nostalgiafagging and erasing plot and characters with the VI gen, Metroid I honestly never liked that much outside Super Metroid, Yoshi only ever had one good game and Kirby I never got really much into it, only Zelda is still good IMO: ALBW saved the franchise
Luckily, new good franchises are rising from it: Xenoblade and the new Dongs are very good, I wish they kept Pandora's Tower and made spiritual sequels of it, Fire Embem seems to be good too if you don't play it on the babby casual modes

It's because Nintendo is hellbent on trying to get people who buy the 2D Mario games into buying the 3D Marios.

2D Mario games have a history of usually selling around 20-30 million while 3D Mario games tend to sell around 5-10 million. Even before 3D Land/World, you can see how far back Nintendo was trying to get the 2D Mario crowd to convert considering that Galaxy was far more linear compared to 64/Sunshine, Galaxy 2 even more so.
