Well there are different types of lets plays. In general, you have the shorter prerecorded YouTube clips and then you have the long Twitch streams. Both still have projected longevity, but from a marketing perspective for maximum viewcount and exposure, the smaller clips are better but you miss out on the interaction people enjoy in Twitch streams.
Twitch is very creator friendly and a tough nut for marketing to crack since by it's nature you have few guidelines and it's literally hours of unscripted action in front of a live audience. Although you can sponsor a Twitch streamer to play your game, you can't control the message very well. You can't edit out bad parts or suppress viewers that make damaging comments or observations.
The goal currently is to make shorter and more scripted Twitch streams to reduce the amount of variables present. In addition, we're trying to see if viewers can be segmented into different channels with varying priorities. Like an elite channel where the most trusted viewers go and whose comments are readily displayed to the streamer and a channel for random users where only select comments arw visible to the streamer.

Probably partially related to poor return on their animations for the amount of hours they put in. Probably also just a general malaise for animation in general, on youtube and as a profession.
When you find out the job you've chosen is a really fucking shitty job it's going to grate on you. Animation requires hours and hours of grinding it out, so even the most passionate person will get bored.
They never really tried to do anything more. They could've banded together and tried to make a full length movie, or a dedicated series that got regular updates, look for funding from the government or privately.
They instead just gave up. Obviously Ego raptor is making more money then he ever would animating, but I can't imagine it's satisfying. I recently started animating myself and it's incredibly satisfying to get something looking just perfect.
