I did almost this, except we shared a save file and pretty much watched each other play and switch controllers every hour or so
He basically would just get on the horse and go trotting speed and look at the view for an hour so I'd always tell him he should do something but he never would
I played without him and got pretty far ahead and I guess that made him sad so he stopped playing it after that. I still feel bad
