I just fucking hate how they didn't at least start after Rosine was defeated and he said his goodbye to that little girl. The anime's intro would have been perfect if they covered at least Guts walking through the forest dismissing the first appearance of his inner demon while being absolutely covered in blood.

I love this aspect of it. It irritates me in games when STR doesn't up your durability. The stronger you get, the more protective muscle you're building around your squishy parts, and the harder that muscle fiber becomes. You can also strengthen your tendons (much fucking slower and more carefully), which makes them more difficult to tear, and even your cartilage (through tearing it; cartilage is tougher after it heals, but I think it's more brittle).
Dex is more of a "fine touch" spec. I've never thought of it as being speed. It's literally dexterity, how good you are with your hands. In that sense, Guts is a complete Quality build, possessing amazing STR and the DEX of a master swordsman. Not only can he use the Dragonslayer, but he can wield it with the fine touch of a reasonably sized, normal weapon. If Guts didn't have amazing DEX, he wouldn't have the coordination to block super-fast tentacle whipping and shit like he does.

No, it's worth reading because it's fucking great. Forget about fucking Souls, goddamn. I approached it as a long time fan of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, and it doesn't disappoint. Definitely sword and sorcery fiction in the same vein as Conan. The whole manga is the same kinds of scenes that Frank Frazetta loved to paint for Conan, with a lot of 80's horror design thrown in for good measure.
I didn't expect the reference to Army of Darkness when Guts got his cannon arm.

Griffith might've had talent but Serpico utilised everything he could. In a 1 on 1 duel on flat terrain, Serpico might've lost to Griffith if the latter didn't underestimate the former... but as more factors are added to the fight, Serpico's odds rise. Griffith at the time of his first duel with Guts was surprised by his improvisation, something Serpico is very skilled at as well. The second fight ended with a single swing, something Griffith gambled on, but ultimately lost. Technique isn't the most important aspect of a fight, it's just one of the factors that determine its outcome, as Griffith's emotional instability evidently impacted him.
Again, Serpico holds his own against a guy who beats Zodd in a straight swordfight. I'd actually go and say it's borderline impossible as a regular human to match Guts, even including the numerous factors and conditions. The fact that Serpico doesn't crumble within the first 10 seconds is a testament to his incredibly skill.
