rarely have i been so let down
game does basically everything right and then the last phase of the first boss hits. suddenly you have absolutely no idea what to do and there is zero indication of what to do.
i read nothing about the game and i could intuitively figure out what i needed to know by playing- that's great game design. but then it just goes to bullet swamping the screen and you have no idea what to do.
how could they fuck up that bad?
pirate, don't buy.
>>344697290
sounds like a case of git gud
I bet that made you furious.
>>344697728
nah made me let down. they did such a good job and then threw it away all at once
>>344697506
Kill yourself memer.
>>344697290
Dodge the bullets, what's so hard to understand about that?
I do like the game but I greatly dislike the idea that each boss healthbar is really two healthbars, one from a distance and then one in that stupid duel mode. Made some boss fights feel far too long.
>>344697290
Are you saying that you want the whole game to be the tutorial? What the actual fuck, literally git gud.
>>344698307
no i want a game to have intelligent game design that indicates what you're supposed to do
i don't play trial and error games. im in my 30s
>>344698292
>Made some boss fights feel far too long.
Not if you think about it. There's only bosses in the game and a single boss is a whole level.

>that indicates what you're supposed to do

I'm still on the fourth underwater green dude, but walking between bosses is the most tedious task I've had to do in a game. Can't even pay attention to the rabbit guy because it's so boring...
>>344697813
>difficulty spike
>threw it away
uhhhh, prepare for a long ass game? or play something easier. Its simple as fuck. Dodge.
>>344698417
The game isn't really trial and error if your reaction time is good enough
>>344698675
Just auto-walk and look at it as a long ass loading screen and smell your nuts or something
>>344698675
Really? I fucking love the environment design and would use most of the frames as wallpapers.
>>344698928
has nothing to do with easy. i had zero trouble up to the last stage and it has nothing to do with dodging.
no way to tell how to hurt the boss or what you're supposed to do on the last part.
i knew predictable little dick waggling /v/ would make it about skill, but it's about design

You mean, -you- have no idea.

That's what your original post says, when in reality, you're the one fucking up.

If you've played more than 5 or 6 games in your life you should immediately recognize the "survive the bullshit then hit the boss" thing that games have done since the NES.
If you didn't recognize this either you have the pattern recognition of a toddler or this is your first videogame in which case welcome to the hobby.
>>344700416
I'm actually at the fifth boss right now and fucked up my first try at her. The game didn't fuck up.
I've noticed as I've played this game that the most annoying parts are the final phases because it changes from a fun shooting/melee combo game into a bad bullet hell that's just going through the motions instead of reaction.
That and it kinda makes the rest of the battle not as fun on the subsequent go-throughs because you're just dreading that final phase even though you can do the rest just fine and have a good time with how good it feels.
>>344699676
memes? anon, i am literally telling you how i beat the first guy. Dodgeing, not getting hit, shooting his incoming bullets, etc etc.
Is advice a meme to you?

>>344700652

I like that tbqh. It makes the victory feel even better.
>>344700526
nope, not how the last stage works.
>>344700652
exactly. bad game design and made me not want to play anymore. i was having a huge blast parrying his whole combo and shit. then it becomes touhou. a genre for literally autistic people.
but once again, dodging the bullets or getting hit by them etc wasn't an issue in the last stage. it's that there is no apparent way to hurt the boss anymore.
>>344700652
I look forward to the final parts of the battle. because usually all you have to do is just survive.
what I hate is fucking up on any other part, and then they get all their health back, when i already had so much trouble getting it down.
>>344700824
>not how the last stage works.
Elaborate? What gave you trouble?
>>344700824
Yes it is. You survive the bullet hell then he goes down in 4 or 5 bullets. I just did it 30 minutes ago. Then you do a melee version of the same concept then he goes down in 2 hits or so.
>>344700824

>>344700950
>You survive the bullet hell then he goes down in 4 or 5 bullets

why would I expect that all I am supposed to do is "survive" rather than trying to hurt him?
why would i think the bullet hell would ever end?

>>344701162

>>344701069
because of the unkillable bullets, the game design is telling me taht i'm supposed to walk forward against the bullets, moving to the side of the unkillable bullets while advancing through killable bullets
This is much harder than just surviving, and was what I naturally tried to do, because that's what the game design was telling me to do. Get close and hit him.
Instead it's apparently a survival mode, which doesn't really require skill. Why would I expect to not use skill rather than using skill?
And that's why it's bad game design. PS, I also tried shooting a path through the bullets and then shooting a charge shot. There was no visual or aural indication that the shot did anything.

>>344701141
Because you've played 5 games before and recognize the trope for what it is?
Your bullets don't hurt him, your charge shot doesn't hurt him process of elimination has shown he is likely invincible so you decide to wait it out, having seen this kind of thing in previous games. So you just survive and wait and oh look now he dies in 5 bullets.
>>344701141
>why would I expect that all I am supposed to do is "survive" rather than trying to hurt him?

>YOU JUST NEED TO GIT GUD OP

not good enough to beat that last boss apparently
>>344701432
>process of elimination has shown he is likely invincible
no, process of elimination at that point shows that you're supposed to use a charged sword slash to knock the unkillable bullets back into him.
see, you don't actually know game design at all. Your mind goes to "wait it out" instead of an actual good game design element.
process of elimination in a video game never goes to "stand back and wait". Why would I ever do that in any video game?
Heard people complaining about furier The Line.
Get to him, beat the first three phase easily enough, only taking a few hits.
Get to the last phase.

Got to the forth boss in about an hour. Not once while I was playing did I ever feel like the game messed up. It taught you how to shoot, slash, dodge, and parry. A game doesn't need a "MASH X" button for you to understand what to do. But overall, just git fucking gud idiot.
>>344701807
If you git gud it's extremely easy, you can beat him in less than a minute by training a lot.
You can do a single attack between each parry.
>>344701867
>anyone who's good at video games would think it's about surviving and not advancing forward or deflecting something back at him.
right. once again, none of you actually understand game design.
in my version of the first boss you charge your sword to knock back the orange bullets and kill him.
in the real version you wait.
tell me, which is more fun game design? go ahead.
>>344701768
Which means you fucking died. This is the only instance in which a boss resets their phase. Don't even pretend like the healthbar isn't properly telegraphed.

no, i lost a health bar. why would it matter that i lost a health bar? why would that cause a boss to reset a state?
Why would I ever think that the win condition is "stand back and survive"?
It's so absurd that you're actually defending that as okay.
>>344701952
Dashing around through bullet patterns sounds way more fun than standing still parrying things.

>>344702057
I grew up playing shmups. Which is why I thought you were supposed to advance forward through the bullets. trope is used in r-type, darius, gradius and others.
I don't play touhou style games. They're autism games. They have nothing to do with shmups.
neo-/v/ doesn't get game design at all...not surprised. you grew up collecting things and getting trophies, not winning with skill.
>>344701936
Yea, but I kept trying to do it in a cool way though.
I wanted to block all of his attack strings and punish accordingly.
Eventually I said fuck that and stuck to boosted charge attacks, instead of doing a single attack.
>>344701952
Reflecting bullets sounds pretty fun, however, talking about things that would be neat if they were there isn't exactly productive. The mechanics of the game have been explained to you by that point, you are then presented with a wall of bullets, and your apparent first thought was:
>there must be a mechanic the game hasn't told me about and is mandatory to clear this section, with nothing to indicate its existence
>>344701952
>in my version of the first boss you charge your sword to knock back the orange bullets and kill him.
Alright you tried to reflect, it didn't work. Did your brain just turn off at that moment? You simply couldn't comprehend that perhaps there was another way to win?

>not winning with skill

>>344701276
>>344701374
GIT FUCKINGGUD
The game informs you pretty quickly that bosses have moments of invulnerability. This is indicated when they glow a certain color. In all cases you have to wait until they stop glowing to damage them again
During the final segment the boss is glowing, implying he can't be hit. And just like every glowing phase beforehand, you have to wait until it stops
I'm not sure how you got confused here OP
>>344700254
>tfw just beat it on furier
Literally just pray
>>344702137
>Lose a healthbar, boss just happens to stop shooting at the same time say and line and start shooting when you stand back up
>How was I suppose to know the phase reset?
You sound like a literal fucking retard. The boss resets so you can cheese the phase by only getting in 2 hits each life by only learning how to counter one move. Your health is also reset when you win a phase so it's not like this mechanic just comes out of thin air.
>>344701952
Jesus christ, this is like those horror stories I've read of game testers not grasping concepts that are extremely simple, and the developer being pressured into making changes around that.
I don't understand man, that boss was so easy. He glows, none of your attacks hurt him, his waves of bullets progress into different patterns, your shots break his blue shots, you just wait it out, that wasn't even a thought when I was playing. You stated earlier that he recharged and did it five more times, meaning you survived that wave of bullets, and had the opening to attack, and you just never tried to use your gun? Your sword didn't work, and you, as a player, never once thought to use your only other method of attacking, just to see if it would damage him?
I think you're scapegoating the problem to bad game design, when it seems like you failed to do the most simple of problem solving. Maybe you were tired or something when you tried it, but that was some easy shit man. Poor form.
Is this game decent with kb+m? played revengeance with it just fine despite everyone i know being baffled as to why i didnt use a controller.
>>344701276
I don't know if that'll help you, but once I understood that you have like a full minute to get behind cover for her sniper shot.
So basically don't rush to cover and take your time.
>>344702281
and your apparent first thought was:
>I'm supposed to stand back and do nothing
why would I EVER think to just stand back and do nothing in a video game? EVER? since when are video games NOT ABOUT KILLING THE BAD GUY? lol

LOL.

>wtf why can't I kick the door in

>mfw I keep choking on the last phase of the angle
To be sort of fair to OP, my first time playing the game did take me a bit of time to realize what was going on with boss phases and HP and such. I didn't really understand how health system worked until, like, the third fight
I think it would have been more clear if 'bars' of health were just 'lives', because that's how it works. Lose a life, have to retry current boss phase. Lose all your lives, have to start boss over. Would have been more obvious from the start that way, to me anyway
But no, I never got stuck on the bullet hell sections. That was pretty obvious OP
>>344702627
wall of text because basically you can't stand someone knowing better than you do.
I've played video games for i think 27 years now. You've played them for what, 5, 6?
I know so much astronomically more about game design than you, what's good and what isnt, and how to indicate things to player.
and "stand back and survive" would NEVER be in a game I made because its fucking GARBAGE MECHANICS THAT NO PERSON GOOD AT VIDEO GAMES WOULD EVER THINK TO DO.
>>344702892
My first thought was shooting at him. Realized it didn't work. Avoided the bullets and killed him.
How can you be so stupid?
>>344703035
is it a component of touhou games that you are just supposed to survive the bullet hell rather than killing the boss?
are you a fan/player of these games?
man, i would've bought it in an instant too. generally great game design, then a dagger in the heart.
even jap voices for us weebs even though it doesnt seem to be a jap game
Man this is some fucking next level shitposting I don't even know what i'm doing anymore
>>344702892
You can shoot the incoming bullets. When the boss is fired upon he makes the sound that plays when he's invulnerable and glows the appropriate colour and his healthbar doesn't change. Continuing to survive is not unintuitive
>>344703040
>"I have eaten way more food than you, what do you know about cooking?"
>>344703040
>and "stand back and survive" would NEVER be in a game I made because its fucking GARBAGE MECHANICS THAT NO PERSON GOOD AT VIDEO GAMES WOULD EVER THINK TO DO.
It's a very common SHMUP trope. Like, in almost every bullet hell ever. It's there to emphasize bullet patterns and make the task of dodging them more important than attacking and ending the pattern early. A battle of attrition thing
Furi takes a lot of cues from SHMUPs, so it's not surprising to see it included
So like, what's the problem OP is having?
I thought the game was pretty straight forward, everything was explained clearly. Only thing that wasn't explained was what the right stick did in the melee sections, but I found out that just boosts damage.
OP is baiting to keep a thread about an underplayed game alive right?RIGHT??
>>344703248
>us weebs
Now I understand.
>>344703253
>Continuing to survive is not unintuitive
continuing to survive is blatantly unintuitive, always, unless the game directly tells you simply to survive.
I can probably count on one hand in my almost 3 decades of gaming experiences the number of times in a game I've ever had to "just survive".
I just figured the game was demanding something hard to do and I couldn't figure it out.
It's so funny that after a wall of "git gud" I explained that I was trying to do something really hard/skilled and you're supposed to do something easy that requires 0 skill whatsoever.
And you beat your fucking chests over this shit, when I beat ninja gaiden on NES without continues. go fuck yourself. I am so much better than you, historically and in the present, and I can beat people in multi games too.
Fucking touhou faggots.
>get to Sheild man on furier
>get to last phase

>only the consecutive parry left
>finish with full hp
Oh furi
>>344697290
Isn't the boss surrounded by a giant blue surface of death while he's in bullet hell mode?
Why would you not wait to approach him until after that went down? The whole fight had been about staying on the defensive until there was a clear opening so what's the difference between having that concept over 10 seconds and having it over a few dozen?
So I went through the whole game without ever charging the dash and melee attack. Didn't really understand the point/how to use them properly. What was the point of charging a dash?
>>344703280
shmups are not bullet hells. bullet hells are an extremely niche genre that nobody plays.
"just survive" is not generally in shmups. I cannot remember a case of it. I think one r-type game might have had a just survive boss (but the game I'm thinking of indicated that you're just supposed to survive)
So basically what you're actually saying is it's a touhou trope and I'm bad at games because I don't play touhou. Literal autism shit.

>>344703440

Apparently it's an element of touhou games (only touhou games) so it's my fault that I don't play a game series that is intimately connected with life failure and absurd weebery.

well you are full of shit because to do that you need to know the spawns of NG inside and out which takes much much longer than getting good at this game. just play the game

>clearly changing and progressing attack plays itself out?
it doesn't clearly change and progress. there are like 2 waves that repeat in sequence. there is no progression past the orange bullest starting to appear

>>344703440
HOW THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW TO 'JUST SURVIVE' UNTIL THIS UNKILLABLE, UNHARMABLE BOSS RANDOMLY SPAWNS APPLES TO SHOOT AT HIM? JUST SURVIVE? WHAT THE FUCK? WHY CAN'T I KILL HIM BEFOREHAND?

Survive while the boss goes complete berserk is not a fucking foreign concept. Off the top of my head it's been in:
DMC
Zelda
Mario
Kingdom hearts
Most MMOs
Metal Gear
Borderlands
Resident Evil
Most survival horror games for that matter
Final Fantasy
and fucking Halo
You are literally struggling with a concept that Halo kiddies had down back in 2004.

Why would the EASIEST part of the boss BY FAR come AT THE END?

going through the 5 stages and then all of a sudden last stage comes and you fuckin get a game over and have to start allll the fuckin way over

You're unobservant, then.

Your talent is wasted on this game, you should be president or something
>>344703805
I mean I saw that shooting his bullets made them go away. So i made I kept shooting them for room to move around in. Plus everytime you shoot him, that yellow aura thing kept popping up. A common signal meaning that the boss is invincible right now. So the only thing left to do is dodge and survive until he starts taking damage again.
>Tell me some games outside the bullet hell genre where you ever "just survive" instead of trying to attack the enemy. I'll wait. Go ahead, make a big list of them.
It'd be easier to name games that dont have this.
OP instead of wasting time trying to convince anonymous people that you're not retarded and total shit at games, perhaps you should have tried beating the boss again?

Yes, and you didn't find it. You had to wait, just like in Kirby. Then you get a chance. But instead you got angry that your first attempt at killing the boss didn't work and decided that rather than accept that you're not as good as video games as you need to be to validate your existence you'll call the game shit online

Almost every boss in KH2 has a desperation move, in which you have to dodge/avoid something without being able to counter. It's a super common game trope OP
>>344704076
Oh so a giant list of AAA garbage that I don't play any of. Makes sense. Also, I absolutely guarantee that 90% of the games you've listed, in that situation, indicate to the player in some way that they're supposed to just survive. I know for a fact it's that way in FF etc because I remember the fight.
jesus fucking christ this thread.
OP kill yourself, you are a faggot and an unskilled gamer

literally retarded holy fucking shit
Go play inside or something else faggot
>>344704150
but that's literally what you do in that boss. You stand back and survive for a bit trying not to get hit until an apple drops and you're allowed to fire it back.
There is literally no difference between that apple falling and The Chains blue aura going down.

You are a faggot

>A common signal meaning that the boss is invincible right now
no, a common signal meaning the boss is invincible TO BULLETS. you don't know if he's invincible if you haven't directly struck him or knocked his bullets back.
I lost my first life trying to strike him, my second trying to knock the bullets back.
Yet I'm bad because I tried 10x harder things than you instead of sitting back and holding up on the controller. Because certainly, the challenge would drop off into absolutely nothing at the end of the fight.

Hold up. I thought it was made pretty well clear that when a boss glowed orange they were fucking invulnerable. Do people really not get that? Do they not see the boss glowing orange during their bullet hell segments?

didn't know it was a bullethell, thought it was purely hack n slash. but hey it gots both and i really liked geometry wars so the music and colors dont bother me
>>344704485
answer the question: why would the boss get harder and harder, and then become so easy that you can literally just hold up on the controller and move left and right slightly.
Apparently it's intuitive that all challenge would disappear and instead of having to do something harder than ever, I would have to do basically nothing.
It's like when you finish medical school and they send you to kindergarten. Remember when that happened?

Literally every boss's last phase is a big climaxy bullet hell/avoid dying for the sequence before going in for the (usual) one hit kill. The Knight's final phase requires you to parry like 20 times before you can kill him.
Is there no checkpoint system on the easier difficulty?

Are you asserting that it's not a common game trope for a boss to be invulnerable and have his invulnerability broken by performing a certain action?
Because I'm absolutely positive that that trope is about 100 times more historically used than "just survive" trope.
Guys, come on. I fired at the tutorial boss whilst he was invulnerable, too. For the entire duration of his attack.
But I didn't fucking die doing it lmao
>>344704734
>Literally every boss's last phase is a big climaxy bullet hell/avoid dying for the sequence before going in for the (usual) one hit kill
WHY???
why would you take the game design out of the game and throw something at players that isn't even interesting, fun, or even remotely part of the same genre as the rest of the gameplay?
shit like that kills me man. so many games could be so much better than they are and they just shit the bed

It's fucking obvious that this is going to be a "dodge shit" phase.

>>344704803
When in this game have you ever been given the impression that you can break their invulnerability? In every instance, if they're glowing orange, you can not damage them. End of story.
And speaking of "tropes", what's more common than the breaking invulnerability "trope" is waiting for a boss to complete a certain action before exposing their weak point.
Didn't you say you played a bunch of old console games back in the day? I seem to remember a few old platformers where bosses had invulnerable parts of patterns where you just had to dodge attacks for a while until they opened up again. I'm pretty sure they would also sometimes have a visual indication like blinking or glowing too. I was a kid at the time, but still somehow managed to figure it out.
>>344704803
Mate, in cases where you can break the invulnerability they always make it painfully clear. If they don't tell you 'you can knock him out of this' just fucking stand back and wait.
>>344704734
i keep dying on the phase 4 since the close encounter part fucks with the camera so the dodging the double cones is a bit tough for my drunk self since he does it very quickly consecutively

>>344704932
Dodging the bullet pattern is not complicated and it is far easier than any other part of the fight.
>It's fucking obvious that this is going to be a "dodge shit" phase.
No, it's obvious that it's a "the attack will never stop coming until you figure out how to damage him" phase.
The story is starting to reveal itself, I expect tropes from the 80s and 90s and you expect tropes from the 00s and 10s. It's to be expected

>or even remotely part of the same genre as the rest of the gameplay?
I don't see how you could possibly get past even the first phase of the first boss by doing nothing but running up and mashing the combo button. Dodging/parrying/avoiding damage in a fundamental part of the game, the last phase typically just divides in more evenly into two big parts.

>>344704506
well if youve gotten to the final phase of the fight, you would have noticed that shiny blue circle around the bad guy.
he does attacks similar to that throughout the fight long before that phase. So that would make someone think standing in it would be painful. so close range attacks are out of the question. Also, it's a bullet hell section, so why would you think a parry, which is commonly used in most games to deflect a singular attack, is going to reflect all of those bullets. That would actually be even worse game design to make a bullet hell zone, and having to find out which one to reflect in that mess.
I'm accusing you of pretending to be retarded.

This is a clear contradiction. You either can dodge for 40 seconds and would have seen him stop shooting and the giant blue get fucked circle disappear, or you couldn't fucking make it that long and just assumed after dying a bunch that it was impossible.
>>344706006
>>344697290
>and you have no idea what to do
It's not fucking rocket science, dude. There are glowing bullets moving towards you, and you had a chance to learn that you could cancel them out with your own gun during the other phases.
If anything, this game is horrendously easy. The way phases / lives / health works is way too forgiving. You should not restart the fight at the last phase after being KO's, and you should DEFINITELY not get full health when you beat a phase. This is casual as shit, and is what separates it from arcade classics that it esteems itself to be a part of.

Every other fucking boss in the game requires you to just survive their final phase for a long time, with the concept exception of the beat and edge
>>344706297
>state resets after you die for an additional 40 seconds.
So you admit you were not capable of beating the section and are not the supreme ultimate gamer you seem to think you are.
The boss has moments of invincibility. This is very clearly visually telegraphed. In the final phase this visual cue it reiterated and a blue danger zone is added around the boss to emphasize that you are not suppose to go near him. It's also a fucking game with an obvious win state, so if it's not possible to win now, logic would dictated that it becomes possible to win later on.
No matter how you look at it, it's pretty clear that you're suppose to wait for an opening. A concept grasped by literally every other human being on this planet except you.
You also didn't make it past the tutorial, how do you know the difficulty of the bullet hell segments later on? It's also very clearly shown in the trailer which you admitted to seeing earlier that the game was a large part a bullet hell.

Mate in games like metal slug you have similar cues. You just watch the patterns, dodge shit and then go in for the kill. Same shit with this game only the patterns last a bit longer than 5 fucking seconds. Has gaming changed that much? Is the idea of certain elements from games in the past being expanded scaring you? Would you just prefer the game be some sort of carbon copy of your 'golden' era of games? You died once to the bullet hell, in a new game with aspects of a genre you haven't played before. I'm sure the first time you played Metal Slug you died to some bullet spam. Did that make you freak out and drop the game?
Look man this is kind of pathetic, you're constantly telling people you're better than them and older than them, it's just making you look like some creep who won't let go. are you really going to tell me that if that was in the game, it's not better design than what you got?
go ahead and tell me that's not better than nothing. go ahead and tell me it's "handholding" when you KNOW it's just good design.
I was just thinking how I'm having a really easy time with the last sections. The only one that gave me trouble during his "dodge" phase was the father.
Excellent game though.

in many games specific actions break invulnerability. This is an extremely widely used trope, far more than "survive the bullets until they end" which is apparently a trope only in the bullet hell genre, which nobody plays.
>There is no way you can approach, most put up a wave you can't pass through.
You can indeed approach all the way to the first boss without getting hit. At least, I could, on my first try. Can you? Curious that you don't think it's possible. Very curious.
>The bullets follow a pattern with some obvious openings you can utilize to dodge them.

it isn't bullet hell. bullet hell games feature about 30,000 times more bullets and 100 times more precise dodging
this simply looked like a well designed game where projectiles are used to set up where you can and can't go on the stage.
I really just don't even feel like going to play it knowing that the gameplay completely changes at the end of each boss (??) that's bad game design and will always be bad game design.

As I already said before there is literally no indication of you being able to break the invulnerability, anyone would notice that.
And you'll notice I said most bosses do that. And for your information I didn't try to approach the boss because I could recognize that section for what it was despite never playing a bullet hell game in my life
Just as many games don't utilize those and have you dodge for a certain amount of time, if you'd care to scroll up I believe someone already posted a list for your convenience, please take the time to look at it.
The boss dimming over time isn't a horrible idea I'll give you that but it would be incredibly hard to notice due to the nature of most of the fights where the bosses are surrounded in an intense glow from their attacks. And really at that point you shouldn't be watching the boss, instead watch the damn attack pattern.

>that's bad game design
That's fucking GOOD game design. It's called variation. Let's be honest here, you're not skilled enough to play a game like Furi and should move on to a game that holds your hand more. You said it youself in the OP, "suddenly you have absolutely no idea what to do and there is zero indication of what to do." Which is objectively false, the boss not only has a glowing purple shield around him, but it's extremely obvious you're supposed to use a charge shot since the game already showed you how powerful it is.
>>344708821
>As I already said before there is literally no indication of you being able to break the invulnerability, anyone would notice that.
indications of being able to break invulnerability don't happen until you do the correct thing.
I anticipated hitting an orange bullet back at the boss and seeing him flash orange or whatever.
The fact that you don't understand how this works shows that you don't understand the game design i'm talking about and have not experienced it. It's almost universally expressed as red or white flashing WHEN HIT BY THE CORRECT THING AND ONLY WHEN HIT BY THE CORRECT THING.
I simply figured I hadn't found the correct thing.
If i went back and played it again now without this thread, i STILL wouldn't think to just stand there dodging the bullets. I'd think therwe as some really hard thing I didn't figure out. This game is supposed to be very hard, right? Why would it include a segment of standing back holding up on the analog?
Why would the player expect to play passively, when they are a fucking cool laser ninja?
>>344708348

funny, smash tv actually popped into my head. but in smash tv it's wildly apparent that you have to wait because you literally cannot do anything other than move or shoot. So you naturally run around circling the bosses shooting them. there is no other possibility.
on the Furi screen, I saw at least 2 different possibilities, which I tried. They didn't do anything.
If they had worked, wouldn't Furi be a much better game? wouldn't I have been brimming with joy that the game worked the way I expected?

>>344712028
OP is dumber than a can of worms though, we can't offer brain surgery to fix it.
The OP sounds like this dude that used to own a video game website for reviews and shit. I wrote for them for a few years, really nice people, I really enjoyed writing for them and contributing because they were so cool. But the second you disagreed with any of the dude's opinions on Video games, he would flip his switch. I actually purposefully took the reviews from him and his wife for games like Killer Is Dead and a few others because they were unfairly harsh with anything that wasn't directly spewed from sony.
I think the dude posts here on a regular basis, nice dude, except when it came to video games cause he got uppity, pretentious and very dumb, just like OP.
>>344711873
If you never knew about the kickstarter and what was originally shown or promised the game would be a solid 8/10.
But when you see all the things they had shown in the kickstarter it looks like 1/2 the content was cut out of the game and the game turns into like a 5/10
>OP is still adamant he's not in the wrong
Wew.
Hey guys, I just beat this game and was super disappointed with the last boss. I definitely missed something right because there are still 2 hidden achievies.
Will I find out during my furier playthrough or is there some specific thing I need to do like during the walking sections?
>>344712871
You have to beat all the walking segments under a certain time to get the true ending.
>>344711986
It depends on how much trouble you have. I finished my first playthrough in about 4 hours. I was on normal though.

Ubisoft France is entirely different than Ubisoft Montreal.
The gameplay is as tight as ever.
>>344713085
>>344713109
Well is there a different boss or anything?
Why is the last guy so easy? I understand he's easy on purpose since killing him gives you the "Pushover, Ametuer" thing, but I figured maybe in the credit walking segment maybe I could find a REAL last boss?
The edge was a little too easy as well for a late boss I feel.
How much different is furier?
>>344713109
Alternatively if you did one of those it could also be the other option during the ending

Did you fight the final boss by choosing not to destroy?
>>344713329
Find your way back home when you escape. Then you'll get the real final boss.
>>344711319
Burst was super hard at first, but it's the exact same pattern every time. As long as you are calm and realize you have plenty of time to get behind the cover once the lazer shows up, you should be fine.
And the first 1/3 of her bullet hell is the hardest. If you get past that the next part is EZPZ.

I cant handle managing the distance and direction of the dodges properly. Also because ive been playing up until now on controller
Literally free on ps4 right now
I was having fun with this game but fuck the flying lady. She takes all the sword play out for generic bullet hell.
>>344713768You can parry bullets. You can also parry while charging your melee attack.
>>344713726
Yeah, that can be tough to get used to, but you can just use the quickest dodge, you never have to hold it. Just practice tapping and letting go instantly so you don't fuck yourself up.
I'm playing on ps4 so I'm using a controller, lol.

>>344713768
It's not like there's much swordplay in this game.
>>344714037
Honestly this. I'm glad they included it but I'm not going to pretend the melee sections couldn't use some serious work. Still disappointing when The Star goes full bullethell on you.
>>344714027
I legit beat him by closing my eyes and just listening. Felt like a fucking master warrior
>>344713932
Ive gotten through the phase once or twice, but cant survive the closerange boss duel right after
>>344713836
yeah and that's pretty stupid you can't parry with R1, it's awkward as fuck to parry while charging.
When are there good opportunities to do the charge/boost attacks? It seems like a lot of the time they just miss or I hit when they are invincible.
>>344714182
I don't mind it though. It's not trying to have intricate combat systems.
It reminds me of Punch-Out, where you just learn boss patterns, and attack when there's an opening.
I've seen some people try to compare this to like MGR or DMC, but it's not trying to be like those games at all.
As far as core mechanics go, the only thing I would change is remove the charge dash, and just have one instantaneous dodge that comes out faster.
Is there any porn of the strap?
>>344714219As far as I know, she'll only use one or two attacks in a row in the last duel, and I also think she always alternates between them (so she goes 1 hit -> 2 hits -> 1 hit etc).
>>344714498
She definitely does the 4hit combo sometimes, I just did it.
So anyone got a mega for the soundtrack or what?

>>344714404
>As far as core mechanics go, the only thing I would change is remove the charge dash, and just have one instantaneous dodge that comes out faster.
Holy hell so much this. Quick dash should be one button, and charged dash should be another button. The delay due to dash only initiating on depress is awful, granted you get used to it very quick but it still means you need to dodge unnaturally early. It's hard to describe though, basically the dodge timing feels off due to the delay. Furi's still a 10/10 game though, I mean you could even say the dodge delay is a good thing since you have to plan it a full second in advance, no last-second dodging.
>>344715190
If it's taking you a full second to press and depress a button you've got broken fingers.
So I feel like charging your melee attack is super OP. I was just fighting the edge, and when he does the 3 hit combo with the red zones for you to stay out of, I charged instead of attacking, then in my next opening I killed him instantly for that phase.
I'm gonna use this so much more next playthrough, jesus

Arigatou, senpais.
>>344715267
Lol, he said you get used to it, but it just doesn't feel as good. Like your brain says DODGE and it's delayed no matter what, it makes it not feel as tight and less like your fault when you fuck up.
>tfw you dodge into the attack
I really hate how short that dodge is,uncharged.
>>344714404
>It reminds me of Punch-Out
Well you got it 100% right, the director of the game himself said this was the main inspiration for the gameplay.

>>344697290
>the scripted tutorial fight ended, and the real game started
>I couldnt apply the things I learned 5 seconds ago fuck this game
>>344715190
Yeah, there's definitely enough leeway in boss patterns where a reaction dodge isn't necessary. I still think there's a lot of situations I was in where if the dodge came out just a few frames faster, I would've dodged.
It's pretty much the only mechanical flaw I have with the game, and it's incredibly minor. The game is much more focused on recognizing patterns than requiring really fast reactions.
>>344715434
Sometimes I do a full charge waiting for a wave, and I dodge all the way across it and get hit by the other side.
Fucking BUUULLLLLSHIIIIIT AH
>>344715630
I read a review that shit on this game about the difficulty, and they actually said "Sometimes bosses do attacks you have never seen before"
EVERY ATTACK IS LIKE THAT UNTIL YOU SEE IT ARE YOU KIDDING ME
I don't care if people don't want to play a game that requires thought, or practice, or skill. That's fine. But don't shit on it and pretend it's not you that's the problem.
>>344715754
Dont forget when you accidentally do a full charge dodge and send yourself flying off the stage.
>>344712018

>>344697813
Are you a game developer? Do you have any idea what you are talking about? No, you don't. The only real problem with this game is that it cost 10 more than it should since the soundtrack is an original composed by some famous artists. You're just another whiner and (more importantly) a bad video game player since once you get the gameplay down it is fairly easy.
>>344698417
You sound like a tired old fuck. I'm in my 30s and people like you suck to be around. Good job on falling for the I'm getting older meme.

>>344716216
We started ignoring OP like two hours ago. We're just talking about the game now
Why is the second to last boss so easy
>>344715284
It does good damage but keep in mind the close quarters sections have much lower hp than distance
>>344716017
Even worse when you try to punish a boss with a charged slash and do that
>>344716461
Well yeah but that's the only time you can even do the charge thing.
Kinda makes them all trivial, just dodge one sequence and charge, dodge next sequence and kill.
I'm not complaining it's cool. Maybe it should be a little slower or not cancelable or something. Like I can just parry in the middle and I don't lose any charge or whatever.
For me its the rider gear that really kills the last battle - I dont know if its visual or real, but it certainly feels like you're moving slower. I can handle that its just a bullet hell fight - But that's not this games strength, so I certainly count it as a fail.
>>344716454
Because 'thematic'
>>344716572
>you can parry while charging
WHAT?
Holy fuck, that wouldve helped so much. I always waited until they did an AOE attack.
>>344716572
Ohh you mean the boost, not the charge slash. Fuck yeah that thing is great use it as much as possible
>>344716245
No, I don't go out to bars, I don't drink, I do smoke occasionally and I have never played an mmo. I work for myself and create time to do the things I want to do. Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that your age has nothing to do with this discussion. You just seem to be a 30 year old who has his time spread thin.
So is the Edge confirmed for most fun boss?
It's between him and flying lady for me.
The line sucks.
>>344716695
If only parry was mapped to a trigger so it would be easier to do...
>>344716809
I'd say it's between The Edge and The Hand for me.
The Line is definitely the worst boss.
>>344716809
Edge is pretty great
>>344716913
>The Line
>not The Beat
>>344716856
Can you not remap in this game?
Jeez. I can't think of a single reason for every game ever to not have remapping.
>>344717069
That barely even counts as a fight.
The line is just tedious. It least it doesn't take that long to stomach fuck the beat.
>>344716809
The Line absolutely has strengths - He's a perfectly fine fight. The Star / The Beat are the worst, but for Reasons.
I'd have to say The Scale is actually the lowest on the list, due to long periods of cant-do-nothing followed by unavoidable grapples, and the rest just being plain and unmemorable.
The Edge is pure gimmick, but wonderful. "Do I look unconquerable to you?" is a line that'll stick with me for a while. The Burst was delicious. The Hand was pretty much flawless. Furier Chain is great, and Strap is brimming with Character. The Song is pretty top tier as well, and knocking her out of the air is damned satisfying.
Their all pretty good actually, with the last two being weakest by far, and Scale only slightly behind the rest.
>>344717095
It's something that still plagues a lot of games, unfortunately.
Is there a boss that's made to work like a direct rival to you with a similar skillset? I loved that kind of shit like in MGR and other games.
>>344717364
I just realised The Edge's English voice reminds me of Robert California...
I love the Edge but I wish his face wasn't so angry and matched his chill voice
>>344716809
The Edge was fun, but he was too easy. Haven't gotten to him on Furier difficulty yet, though.
>>344717715
Yeah, but how do you make him harder really with the mechanics we have?
>>344717809
Y'really cant do it fairly. His whole thing is that he's using bog standard techniques but doing up to 50% life at a time. I'm curious, now, too, since I uninstalled in disgust after three hours on the second to last phase of the star.
>>344717715
The only thing that makes the Edge hard on furi is he hits hard and he has a couple of moves with quite a bit of delay from the tell.
>>344717936
Looks like they just made him more agressive and uses his delay moves a bit more. No substantive difference.
>>344702212
More like you couldnt beat a single touhou game on easy, fuckface
>>344717809
I guess it'd be hard without adding more mechanics to the melee phase in general. Come to think of it, I can't remember having trouble with any melee phase.
>>344717940
I learned very early to only react to the sound/flash for parries, so delayed animations never really bothered me.
>The Edge
>he's the most nicest guy
What are the names of all the bosses? I can't find a list anywhere
>>344719180
The Chain, The Strap, The Line, The Scale, The Hand, The Song, The Burst, The Edge, The Beat, The Star.
>>344701276
honestly, it just takes patience. Learn to manage the waves and what takes priority in which situation. You should be able to tell where the cover is, and be able to work your way over there without the shot getting off, so don't worry too much about that. Just focus on the alternating bullet waves, while moving over to cover. It only lasts for around 30 seconds, and you can make 9 mistakes without losing. You'll be fine. After that phase, you can parry her and get your health back easily enough. If you were able to get to her final spell card you should know her melee combo timing by then.
>>344719180
And Bunnyman is The Voice, of course. Player character is Rider.
So, post proudest achievements?
So the Bunnyman doesn't actually betray you? He seems like the kind of character who would
>>344708973
too bad she sounds as if she's voiced by a 50 year old woman, horrid inflection as well
>>344708108
Once you get the sniper girls patterns down she becomes really fun to fight. I agree the most tedious was the old man.Sniper and angel have the best OST
>>344719647I expected that too; but when you figure out his true motive and backstory, he's absolutely insane in regards to letting you loose.
>>344719647He betrayed all of humanity by releasing the Rider - Rider has a massive entropy field that actively harms the planet, and is the vanguard of what amounts to a zentradi invasion force. All so he could see his daughter again, instead of living his life as a Jailer for an apocalyptic threat.
Did people really have trouble with this game? Only bosses I got a game over to were the sniper and mother brain on their final phases due to the really tight patterns and laggy boost.
>>344719671
I thought her voice was greatbut I've only played in Japanese.
Seriously? Of all the possible things to complain about, you decide to complain about the first boss?
Not the fact that the game is EXTREMELY forgiving, giving you lives back by winning a fight, healing you to full after a round, and healing you by parrying?
Not the fact that the one hyped up sword-only boss basically ends with him just toying with you with a fucking oar before you kill him with ease?
Not the fact that the the donny darko rabbit doesn't do jack shit throughout the game and us unexplained?
Not the fact that the final guardian is fucking boring as shit to fight and poses no real challenge?
Not the fact thatThe real final boss is a fucking alien spaceship that sent you to earth to scout it out before invading for WHATEVER FUCKING REASON HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THISTo be fair I haven't played furious mode yet, so maybe some of these are changed. But I doubt it.Still a fun game but god damn. I just wanted to fight the fucking rabbit.
So The Strap, during her third phase after she disappears, she can spawn outside of the map, which means you'll have to restart the fight.
So during this segment, be sure to stay near the middle of the arena.

I don't get bullet hell. There's like such a thin line between too easy of a pattern where it's just boring waiting for the next section, or retarded bullshit with no pattern like the line.

>>344722875

The Edge
>>344720960
>doesn't do jack shit throughout the game and us unexplained? He gives you a sword and gun, sets you free, and guides you through the jail. The jail that he built and locked himself in with you. As the years went on, he couldn't handle the separation from his daughter, and so he planned to let you kill all the guardians so you could let him out. He also hoped you would discover a sense of remorse and empathy and decide not to destroy their world, but all of that was secondary to him seeing his daughter again. There's a reason why his songs are called "love and madness" and "my only chance". Even if you didn't find his secret cutscene in the credits area, you had to have seen him with his daughter after beating the star.
All of this stuff is spelled out very clearly over the course of the game. The aliens are trying to assimilate earth's resources to save their own planet. That's really all the reason that needs to be given for them, they're just a plot device. The final guardian is boring as shit because she's supposed to be the most pathetic and make you consider what's the right thing to do. The edge was disappointing though, I'll give you that. The game gets so much more punishing on furier that the health regen is a necessity. The first boss is harder than nearly all the bosses on furi.
Every boss except for The Edge and Mother Brain I managed to one shot. The Edge took a bit to memorize his patterns and movements to predict when his attacks would land. Dude hits like a freight truck.
Overall very fun game but I don't get how you don't know what to expect after half of the first boss.
So I'm stuck on the final health bar of theSniper boss when she slams you with bullets, waves, shockwaves, and laser blasts. Holy hell the side ones always get me but the rest of the fight is pretty easy for me. Always die and lose all my health at this part.Any tips?
>>344718331
>>344717809
You need to have near perfect reactions and to memorize what attacks signify what i.e. overhead attack means 3 hits where as his other patterns mean 4 hits. You also have a much much much much much smaller window to attack after parrying. You pretty much need to know EXACTLY when you can and can't attack and how many hits you need to parry depending on what he's doing before attacking.
>>344723184
Why do you think The Burst didn't know what she was getting herself into?
>>344724515
It's a little easier to handle the side waves by dodging where they intersect the waves coming from up top, thus getting both of them at the same time.
>>344724227
Whew, I'm glad I'm not just retarded. I had a decently easy time with the game, then started furier and got my anus bludgeoned multiple times by the first boss in phase 3.
>>344724515
Like other guy said, dodge the intersections. Also, the patterns are always exactly the same so start paying attention to what works and leaves you in a decent spot.
Dont panic when the sniper comes out, you have quite a long time to get to cover, just stay focused and calmly dodge to behind cover.
The first 10-15 seconds are the hardest. After that it calms down quite a lot.
